ForkLift - Mac OS X / Mac OS - File Manager & FTP Client $0.00 (Was USD $19.99)

1280

Same as last time I posted it - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/269408, so copy paste of that, Cyberduck is always a free option, but for some reason I prefer Forklift.
Usually free for about a week, source - http://appshopper.com/mac/utilities/forklift

$19.95 is the USD pricing, based on previous deals it looks like this is actually $29.99 in he Aus store, but not sure, and Google cache isn't showing me what it was previously.
Great client, see earlier popular post for other feedback - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/70694

•••• $19.95 -> $0 •••• Free for a limited time

    FileZilla or GTFO.

      ^ GTFO

    • Good lord no.

i use filezilla, any reason I need this one instead?

    • +1

It's free and only 8.5MB, why are you asking?
Filezilla is ugly as hell, drives me nuts with the constant updates (I use it on work Windows PC), there is no way in hell I would use it on OS X when Cyberduck is always free. Cyberduck is far superior to Filezilla, and for some reason that I can't remember, I found Forklift far better than Cyberduck.

      • ok , getting
cant access and buy it 1st it without a mac … :( need to do it at home

        • Don't stress, it will be 6-7 days before deal ends.
Try Cyberduck too, it's nice as well.

        • @snuke: How are you getting Cyberduck for free? The store says it's $38. :(

        • +2

          @mysticturtle:

          https://cyberduck.io/

"Cyberduck is free software, but it still costs money to write, support, and distribute it. As a contributor you receive a registration key that disables the donation prompt. Or buy Cyberduck from the Mac App Store."

    • Does it upload on file save already or do you need to drag and drop every time you edit your local copy?

      • Does this answer that?

        • Folder Sync: keep two folders in sync with granular control including powerful RegExp rules
        • Synclets: save any sync setup as a stand-alone app for one-button instant updating from your dock or as a cronjob

        • Nah, still not out-of-the-box click on a single file to edit n upload. I'd rather forklift. Thanks

        • +1

          @pizzaguy:

I'm dumb, your asking about Filezilla, not Forklift.

          Moving on………..

      • If you right click a file on the server and press edit it will open in your local editor for that file type as defined in the FileZilla options and every time you press save in your editor it is uploaded automatically by Filezilla. It can only monitor one file at a time though.

ForkLift 3 is just released and BinaryNights (the developer of ForkLift) is actually doing a 50% off for a limited time (I believe it's a one-week thing). People who wants a more modern looking and some functional upgrade may want to check their website out. http://binarynights.com/forklift/store

BTW, I have been using ForkLift 2 (the app in this deal) and it's for sure a decent app to substitute the all-old Finder.

    • Thanks, never knew this was 2.
Personally don;t use it enough to consider buying 3 when 2 has done everything and more I have needed.
I can't see a list of things that 3 does as new, some item listed, are done in 2.

  • Is ForkLift 3 no longer on the App Store?

    • With the way Apple is managing the Mac App Store, I'm not surprised more and more developers are leaving.

      Can't innovate anymore. #MyAss

      • +1

Yeah, forklift can't do disklets on the App Store due to sandboxing requirements, making this close to useless.

        • Binary Nights website states that a version of Forklift 3 will be made for App store.
I have been using the App store version of Forklift 2 for a while. Upgraded to the direct version (support gave me a code to get equivalent upgrade pricing)

        • @pe197: I don't think it's a version number thing, I believe it's because Apple doesn't allow App Store apps to have that kind of access to the system.

  • +14

Was actually thinking this is a real forklift but I was disappointed.

    • +4

      Kills the deal…

      • +2

        No Band 28 support either.

        • +2

Also: no zipties? The hell …

    • +1

      Postage would've been exhorbitant.

    • Does it accept eneloops as the power source?

  • +1

Dont forget Apple 5.6% Cashback :-)

    • +3

      5.6% Cashback on $0 = $0.

  • What does it mean by this?
"NOTE: App Store versions do not contain the Disklet feature and cannot perform privileged file operations."

How do you get the non-App Store version?

    • Google forklift ftp -> BinaryNights.com

I have no idea, however, what the Disklet feature is.

      • Disklettes basically mount a remote s/ftp folder as a local disk in finder so you don't need have to access them via FTP.

It's possible to do this via terminal and some freely available dependencies, but forklift does it in a much nicer fashion.

        • Can you tell me how? I've been looking into this but every version of FUSE etc. seems to be abandoned and too old to work with Sierra.

App or no, if there's any way to do this on Sierra for free or cheap I'd like to know.

  • -2

i thought it was a real forklift

  • +1

I too am also dissapointed as I thought it was a cool forklift. damn it!

  • Awesage, I can now stop using Firefox plugin FireFTP as Safari is my browser of choice.

  • +1

Could always just download Filezilla which is FREE (Opensource/gpl)
which is available on MacOSX + Linux + Windows
    https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?platform=osx

    • You could always use inferior free, open sores software, this is true. But just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Actually now that I think about it OSX almost certainly has built in FTP capability just like Windows.

      • open sores

        Lol'd my @ss off…

      • You can use FTP from Finder itself. Or the command line. Pick your sores. :-)

      • +2

        inferior free, open sores software

        Typical ignorance.

Both iOS and macOS are based on "open sores" BSD.

The screen sharing app is just a rebadged version of the "open sores" VNC.

The remote login is just a rebadged version of the "open sores" SSH.

The webserver is just the "open sores" Apache.

The Windows share support is just a rebadged version of the "open sores" SAMBA.

Safari's engine is the "open sores" WebKit.

Apple and its products wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the hard working volunteers in the open source community.

        • I'm sure all the agricultural knowledge is pretty an open source thing, yet hardly anyone bother to plough, sow, grow, crop, mill and people pay for bread in stores.

Perhaps some are ignorant, but some just save time and effort to keep browsing OzB.

          :)

        • @pizzaguy: That's enough. This sore is making my ass bleed.

OK, so the agricultural comparison might seem cool, but it's misery almost deserves a down-vote. PainTOad's post was only a comprehensive sledging of the poverty of Diji1's contribution, and quite a restrained one really once you appreciate the immense disrespect shown to those projects and those that have contributed blood, sweat and tears to them over the years for the benefit of the world. Many go back so far that some of those disrespected are already in the ground.

Anyhow, dissin' the dead in public is not a good look- but then you made it worse. Esp. given these replies are about an open-source FTP client.

A file manager that tries to replace an embedded one that is god-awful/stuck in the past is one thing, but there is very little justification for anyone (let alone an OzB'er) paying for freshly baked FTP GUI whether the sore be 'closed' or 'open'.

        • @zerovelocity: All the respect to the open source community. I never diminished their efforts. If "open sore" - which at first seem just humorous - is that offending, let this very sentence be the first and last time I've ever used the phrase.

        • +1

@pizzaguy: Actually the open sore pun was actually a interesting.

Perhaps if 'closed sore' could be used to a similar effect, the world might be a better place

  • I've used this app for the past 8 months. Highly recommended, and just beats out Panics transmit ftp client for me. Cyber duck is decent too but not nearly as polished.

I love that you can search and use preview, essentially working as a replacement for finder. If you use FTP often it's worth giving it a try considering it's free.

  • great program! very nice find! thank you

  • Thanks for posting this, snuke!

  • I found Cyberduck app has slow start; forklift is better

Plus it has file manager, thus complement my path finder application

    Thanks op!

  • Thank you snuke! What I hated about Finder was the tag dots. I prefer the entire line to be highlighted. Forklift does this :)

  • What can't download on iOS phone? Booo.

    • You mean install or simply "buy"?
Not being able to buy apps via web browser, like you can do with Google Play store, is annoying as hell.

  • i don't do much in the way of FTP/SFTP etc.. what benefits does this have as a Finder/local file management replacement? thanks in advance.

    • +1

Dual pane so easy to drag and drop, compare files etc.

    • +1

Just installed it, and it has the option to show the size of each folder, something sorely lacking in Finder. Much easier to track down where all your disk space went. Reminds me of XTREE. In a good way.

  • When I clicked the app shopper "buy" icon, it takes me to App Store (which has the version that apparently does not contain the Disklet feature and cannot perform privileged file operations). How can I get the version which contains the Disklet feature and cannot perform privileged file operations?

I also went to the binary night website, but can only find Forklift 3.
