      dash cam starts recording as soon as key on and it overwrites automatically when memory card is full (overwrite old one first) and if it detects impact, it save the clip into the emergency folder which is never being overwritten. And when you turn key off the car, the dash cam will turn off by itself. And some dash cams have special safety features like ADAS, 24 hr detection etc..

      All of above, action cam does not have.

      also lens angle is different, dashcams have a wide field of view (FOV). In this case it's 130°.

      I bought two xiaoyi(power edition), just a few findings from two months of usage.

      1. The video quality from the power edition is average at best. Most reviews on youtube is based on the more expensive edition.
      2. They have survived the summer heat so far. I did notice the video warping around the edges when it is hot.
      3. The power edition is visually more discreet than the regular edition.

      If I knew the video quality from the power edition was only average (due to the inferior sensor), I would have purchased the regular edition.

    I was a xiaomi fans, however after my car got hit in the company car park and the Xiao Yi didn't record s**t.
    I won't recommend it to my friend.
