Quite fitting that IBM is giving out invites.

    • I know right that never happens

      • +10

I'm not sure if you get what he means; the movie itself involves IBM.

        • Oh I see. Yeah sorry I was just being a dumb ass

  • Is it a double pass?

    • +11

If you fill in the form twice it is…

    • +1

Maybe true. But the movie is a nice movie and very entertaining. I know Meryl probably wet her pants with it, but switch off and enjoy the movie its quite good.

  • Missed on the ShowFilmFirst deal, so grateful for this one. Thanks.

Here's the email I just got [contents in square brackets are mine] -

    Dear [silverrat23],

Thank you for registering for the IBM 'Hidden Figures' Women in Technology screening in Melbourne

'Hidden Figures' has soared at the US box office and was the number one film in its first weekend, having also been nominated for three Academy Awards including Best Picture, two Screen Actor Guild Awards, and a Golden Globe. We've also got a great group of women sharing some interesting insights around working in the tech sector.

    Date: [date here]
    Time: [time here]
    Venu: [location here]

We expect it will be a fantastic evening and look forward to seeing you there.

    Regards
    IBM 'Hidden Figures' Team

P.S. As spaces are limited, please let us know if you've had a change of plans and can't make the screening. We've had a lot of interest, so we'd like to be able to offer the opportunity to someone else if so. Many thanks.

Looks like registration is for one person only and we'll only need to present ourselves - no printout tickets or the like.

Maybe IBM has spent time analysing how the Student/Ozbargain brain works, and is awake to Brodening….. 😀

      • +2

It has developed a supercomputer for deals to beat us to the punch. It's called Deep Broden

  • Is it only for students ?
Do you have to show student ID ?

    • I usually just show my Healthcare card

      • I haven't got one …. I am working F/T :(

        • download one off google and print it out. They're paper base

        • +2

You can choose to register as a Business Delegate

  • Seen it…worth it for Free!

  • They did this for employees a few weeks ago as a premiere.. I've heard that it's a really good film.

  • Thanks OP! Free movie yet again.

  • Excellent movie. There wont be seat numbers in the ticket So you will have to go early to get good seats.

  • Anyone know how it works? ^^ Do we just go in and tick our names off the list?

  • Wouldn't let me sign up as a student, even though I used my Uni email…
Seemed to work still. Chose "academic".

  • -1

Ok made up fake name fake numbers, fake job discription as doctor, but real email, now waiting for tickets!

    • So what's the plan if they ask for ID?

      • +2

I presume the exchange would go something like this.

        • Ah, The Simpsons! Is there any situation they don't have a scene for?

  • Is this the email everyone received?

  • Thanks - registered for me & wife. A bit risky not having a proper ticket/seating but it's free.

  • Saw this on the weekend - really enjoyed it.

This is an event targeted at students. It is not for the general public. Please remove from this site.

    • Uh oh ! The jig is up

      • So…. ozbargained?

    • Classic ibm

  • FYI,

From rep: Student ID will be required upon arrival to ensure that no one from this website takes our students places.

    • What if the students are also OzBargainers? Does it exclude them?

      • open to our Grad/Intern candidates

  • Old Tafe card will work just fine Or UWS.

  • We might need to organise a census to poll the demographics interested in this movie.

    • Or just go witness the number of Ozbargainers who show up only to be turned away.

      • mods can organise a meet up if ozbargainers can't go in?

  • Got this today:

Thank you for registering for our upcoming event. This event is a special screening celebrating Women in Technology aimed at helping to inspire particularly women early on in their STEM careers. The interest in this has been tremendous with an ever growing waiting list. I notice that your registration doesn't include what University/third level institution you are attending or which course. Can you let me know so we can ensure that the registration process goes as smoothly as possible on the evening. Please bring your University ID on the evening too.

If your plans have changed and you are no longer able to attend, please let me know so we can reallocate your seat.

    Thank you

Damn this is such a shame, I did sign up with my uni email… I have a uni ID but it's an old one (doesn't say what year though)… will they notice???

I am actually someone they are targeting, sort of… except I've been working in the industry for 5 years now, lol.

Back from the event, no student I.D. checking down in Melbourne. Great movie and well catered for (free booze and all). Thanks IBM/OzB!

    • The film started at 6:30pm?

      • +1

We were ushered in to the theatre at around 6:30pm, after the usual ads there were a few talks and a short film followed by the actual movie, I'd say it started around 7:00pm.

        • Movie started at 7:10pm tonight, and it was half full only.

IBM did a good job by inviting some real life Hidden Figures to share their workplace experience.
