Nope, no reason at all you can't. Usually the consumer drives are cheaper but NAS drives are a better hard drive
Gr8 deal… Consumer drives are a bit faster as well. NAS drives are typically low powered 'always on' devices (typically running at 5400rpm e.g. WD Reds). I'd not pick it for a NAS myself would go with a 5400rpm drive for increased bearing life at lower rpm.
helium will leak
Anyone having a tough time checking out?
Edit. All good. Thanks for the find, OP
I didn't complete checkout but can get to the last page of the process where you click "Place my order"
Edit:
Nevermind. I see you're sorted
seems the prices have gone up for both.
Was quite a bit cheaper from amazon.uk
I know because i missed out…
That was a pricing error and Amzn didn't honour it… I ordered 2.
Still waiting for decent price.
Really? Didn't realise as no mention on original post?
I just picked up 16TB (2x 8TB WD Red drives) Mybook deal from newegg for roughly $668 inc delivery. Already have 6 of these drives in my NAS and they run great and have been reliable. https://www.newegg.com/global/au/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N…

@raybies: I've added the link. Just be aware the Mybook enclosure will only accept WD drives if you were thinking of changing them out.
@solrak: Which drive model do they come with?
@raybies: 2x 8TB WD Reds (NAS) drives.
@solrak: Thanks.
8Tb WD Red are 5400rpm. These are 7200rpm. Big difference in my experience.
How does warranty work with those drives? Have to ship both back or will they honour warranty on single shucked drives?
How'd you get it for $668 including delivery? I'm see it at $724 including delivery.
The shipping amount has changed and significantly so.
Amazon is now cheaper than Newegg's current price. Approx $682 AUD
@4agte: ahh I see thanks
To make you feel better. It was a price error and my order got cancelled like everyone else on that deal.
Looks like some orders were honoured - most not…
I'm one of the people whose order was "honoured"… however I got the shipping notification, but 2 months later I got an email saying the item was returned to Amazon and I was given a full refund.
So I didn't get anything.
Same comment as on the last post. You can pickup a 16TB WD My Book Duo and remove the 2 8TB WD Red drives for ~4.0c/GB and get a free External HDD Shell :D

Why can't they just sell an 8tb single for roughly the same price?? Is get this ironwolf but I actually want a cooler, quieter, slower, drive!
Ironwolf??
Marketing department went all out on that one :).
I predict the next drive will named Excalibur, or Blue Steel, or hang on… Warp Drive!
I can just see the young computer 'enthusiasts' right now, getting all excited and boasting about running 5x Ironwolf drives in RAID5.
I can feel the power even now ;).
Theyll have "GAMING" hard drives soon for the youngins.
How long until we start seeing 80TB, then 250TB, then 1PB?
It's predicted there will be 100TB drives by 2025
Yeah but in 2007 were we predicting 100GB drives by 2015?
source?
were we
Well 20TB is supposed to be released in 2020. 10TB was released in 2016.
At this rate, I doubt we will see 100TB by 2025. I would say 50TB if we are lucky.

Thanks OP
Just placed an order for 2 - total €495 delivered
any reason one of these could not / should not be used as a secondary drive in a PC?
