    • Thanks, updated the link.

  • Paid $69 for a 12 months subscription. I havent played any multiplayer games for more than 3 months. No games to play!!

  • +7

Wait, what? You have to pay for multiplayer these days?

      Welcome back Tutankhamun!

      • This made me laugh..

    • +2

      Yeah, its a joke.

    • Yeah. And I think I have all five games that you can play on 2+ pads. It's called couch-op and similar now.

    • +1

      On Console you do

    • Even on Nintendo, now.

  • +3

Finally. and please make this permanent with no sub

I know what Sony is thinking, they want you trial multiplayer, start liking it and make more people subscribe PSN for it….

    Not going to happen!

    • +2

Agree, I paid for a year at $69.
Just a casual gamer, played online maybe 3-4 times in that year. Not worth it to just play online when I am only doing it less than a dozen times.

    • +1

If you don't want to pay just make a new PSN ID with a free two-week trial every time your existing one runs out.

I bit the bullet and paid $69 for a year's subscription and it's good value to me. I play every day right now (Last of Us, Battlefield 1) and the experience is pretty good. Always get a game, hardly any downtime despite the shit internet in this country. There's also the free PS Plus games which sweeten the deal, though I don't usually play them.

      • This only works 5 times a console now

        • +2

Doesn't matter, even if you reset the PS4 or get unlimited PSN ID's the Free Trial isn't worth it.
          Why?

Because majority of online multiplayer games are level based.
So each time your trial period ends, you're back to square one and the game would feel very repetitive and redundant by then, sucking out all the fun of it.

  • That is why I preorder switch which give a free online multiplaying till fall.

Games on a computer less fun

        • +4

Games on a computer are more fun.

If you meant the distinction between games on a couch vs desktop, well you may have a point.
But you can just plug in your computer to a TV if you like.

Or even better, have a Wall-Mount Moving Arm which is connected to a decent* monitor.
Kick back on your sofa with the screen close to you for ultimate viewing, with your choice of controller or K+M.

Not sure if serious or just trolling…

      • -5

either case is valid though. Sony will have to make it free else people will flock to Switch.

        End of story

        • +5

Really? You think that Switch and PS4 will play in the same market? Let me know when I can play Witcher or GTA or The Last Of Us on Switch

The comment about Steam is more relevant

        • No lol it's for a few months onlu

  • Will play for free. Unlikely that I will pay for playing online, I will do that on steam, its free.

  • +2

Screw PS+ And their Indy junk. One of the reasons I moved to PC for MP and haven't looked back

  • +2

Do the people that actually pay for PS+ get reimbursed for those 5 days? Seems a bit unfair to be honest.

    • +1

Nope, you pay for ps+ for the ability to online multiplayer. Unless thst gets taken away from you you got what u paid for.

What happence to other people is irrelevant cos it doesnt affect u.

  • My question is where do they got off charging people to play online on the one hand, while permanently closing down servers and online functionality for older titles altogether on the other? Where is this money going exactly?

Meanwhile on Steam I can play multiplayer games from 10+ years ago via online or LAN whenever I wish.

I still own a PS4 for the exclusives, single player games, and couch coop. This gen though (since PS+ requirement) I have moved all of my online multiplayer gaming to PC.

Lots of talk here about people switching to PC because of the annual fee, but the annual fee for PS+ is negligible when you compare it to the cost of building and then maintaining a gaming PC.

Even just the video card upgrades can be the same cost as a brand new console.

    • I like PC because the most I've spent on new release games is $40 (VPN), most households also have a PC/laptop even if not gaming that is worth ~$500. Also the consoles ship with such dated hardware that they can acquire for cheap for mass production.

That being said I used to be a PC + Wii(u) guy but I sold mine cause the OS was so slow and the game library so small. Now that I have a PlayStation 4 I'm loving the simplicity of it just being encapsulated and easy. There's no tweaking and it's already optimised for the hardware (as weak as it is). I'm impressed with the stuff I can get on the store on sale too. It makes me cringe when my friends go to EB and get $80-120 games though and say they can't afford a gaming PC. I'm finally catching up on all those exclusives I've wanted to play and the $10 a month is barely anything.

I still rock an AMD 7950 from 2012, can still play games at better settings than XBOX One and PlayStation 4.

When upgrading GPUs don't purchase the fastest at the time, a little less performance for a lot of savings. AMD RX 480 4GB for $300 or NVidia GeForce GTX 1060 3GB for $270, are both still cheaper than a new console. CPUs on Intels side haven't improved much in performance from Sandy Bridge so PC gamers can still rock 5+ years old CPUs.

Thats why its a bad trend at the moment where ps4 exclusives are coming to pc. Sony should make exclusive mean exclusive so people who want to play the game need to own a ps4.

I dont feel exclusivity when others are playing the game and dont evdnen have ps4s.

    • Uh, no.
We've almost ended "weird architectures" and "console-bound game engines" and "region locking". We're almost at the point to open cross-platform among the majority systems.

No need to go backwards and downgrade and degrade the ecosystem.
In the future; Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo may all work entirely through the same [pc] box… and all you need to do is to subscribe to their network.

    • Which PS4 exclusive games are you referring to that is going to PC? From my understanding I dont think is any…

      • Street fighter v
        Nier automona

        • SFV was announced to be cross platform from the start and SF series has traditionally been a multi platform title. The last Nier game was an xbox 360 and PS3 title, so technically you wouldnt assume any form of exclusivity. But Nier did try to be sneaky by trying to imply exclusivity but in fact was console exclusive.

You are an SF player, I dunno why you have to be so butt hurt over PC gamers enjoying the game. If anything, it actually benefits the entire community from cross platforming SFV.

        • @KaTst3R: how u know ima sf player?

        • @suicine94:

Google…no one is safe from the search engine.

    Yeah it's bullshit!
But to ease the pain Buy PS+ on an Indonesian account so it's only like $36 per year..
Add that user to your ps4 and any other user on the console can play online too.

  • Good way to keep ps 4 updated and prevent from jailbreak

  • Hiw come the free online doesnt work anymore
