RM 0.99 (~$0.30 AUD) Uber Rides in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Under 4km in Klang Valley)

230

Might be useful for those visiting/in Malaysia for the next 2 weeks

The finer print:

  • The RM0.99 rides promo is valid until 26 February 2017, on uberX only.
  • RM0.99 rides only apply for trips under 4 km in Klang Valley only. Not valid for scheduled rides.
  • Not valid for rides between KLIA and KLIA2.
  • During unexpected heavy or standstill traffic, the fare will revert to the usual time + distance calculation.
  • RM0.99 still applies during peak hours where other fares may be higher than usual.
  • RM0.99 applies for cash trips, and your fare will be rounded up to the nearest Ringgit.
  • RM0.99 will not apply if you make multiple stops (or if the trip destination is changed), even if the distance travelled is below 4 km.
  • The RM0.99 flat fare is calculated based on estimated distance and not actual distance.

    RM 0.99 (~$0.30 AUD)

Careful of surge pricing… It might get to $1 AUD !!!!

  • I'm still waiting for an Uber Rickshaw Karachi deal: https://goo.gl/3GKDCU

      What happened?

  • Wow that is bloody cheap. Watch out, Grab!

    Wonder if Grab will compete.

  • Make sure you get grab as well: https://www.grab.com/sg/

When I was there Uber had the same promo on weekends and grab did some promo on weekdays, good times.

You got promo for Uber? Heading there in May

    • Is grab good once there?

      Similar to uber?

Yep Grab is great. Its more or less the same as uber.

I did have a hard time getting uber or grab when it was raining heavy. Taxi's didn't stop for me either when it rained :(. Saddest walk to the monorail ever.

        • Kk thanks.

Looking at taking the airasia bus, or similar into the city, and using grab if recommended to get around the.

          Thanks

        • @movieman: Grab is (in my experience) slightly cheaper. However, what I was told was that Grab drivers can see your destination whereas Uber drivers cannot.

An interesting tidbit for those interested… The Malaysian government was an early investor in Uber (they got something right for a change). So they're letting Uber run rampant until Uber floats and they can cash out. In the meantime their taxi industry (licenses are issues to corrupt government cartel/friends) is taking a massive hit (well, the drivers feel the pain the most). I expect all the regulations will come in once Uber floats.

Malaysian government is corrupt to the core. The prime minister (through one of his affiliates) is invested in Uber Malaysia personally, not the government. So he stands to personally benefit from Uber.

that's slander, unless you've got evidence to support it.

That said, i'm not surprised if he does. Malaysia is becoming rather infamous for all sorts of shenanigans- bit of a joke in financial circles, really.

      • Very true re corruption. Not sure about individual stakes (but where there's money to be made/stolen, there is a politician), but Khazanah Nasional definitely got in early.

I found taxis in KL to be generally poor.
However, on our visit one month ago we used Grab routinely and they were invariably good - and well priced too.

I found taxis in KL to be generally poor.

Well, at 30 cents a ride, they're not going to be rich…

This deal is for UBER - not taxis.

    • And taxi drivers only have themselves to blame. The govt. can't enforce them to use meters although all cabs carry the signage stating ' no bargaining, taxi meter'. Bugger i miss out- I arrive KL March 9 bah!

What a shocking conflict of interest. Corruption right out in the open. A bit like Turnbullshit claiming he's concerned about property prices or making decisions about negative gering when he owns at least 5 residential investment properties.

      • I think you need to realise the scale of corruption there vs public policies that favour politicians here. $US681 million was transferred to Razak's personal bank account.

      • That is a very naive comment.

Turnbull made most of his wealth before politics. The amount he gets back from negative gearing would be insignificant relative to his total wealth and income.

The government there is corrupt and open about it - awarding contracts to construction companies owned by their immediate families, random supermodels who claimed to have affairs with the prime minister suddenly dying.

The prime minister is untouchable in Malaysia.

  • Thanks, will let my parents know :D

  • So if someone on the road stops (traffic) the discount is invalid.

Now all we need is cheap flights to KL so we can use this deal.

"During unexpected heavy or standstill traffic, the fare will revert to the usual time + distance calculation." In KL it is expected that traffic is always heavy and frequently standstill… But I guess interpretations are relative, ie my drive to work in Newcastle takes 10mins, my sister lives in Parramatta and same distance takes 45mins.

  • Am currently in Kl and still getting 0.99 fares. So didn't stop in February.

    • Appears it was extended until March 5.

Grab's equivalent promotion is until today. Just used it today as well.
