I got excited for a second. Please Tightarse get them onto that T460S deal for us ;)

    • +1 I'd definitely buy if the T460S deal comes up again

    • I'm after a T460s as well. Unfortunately, my ASUS of 4+ years just kicked the bucket.

  • +4

if I call Lenovo's telesales number on 1300 557 073… will they answer my question about your Secret Identity ?

  • +2

Using this laptop right now, pretty happy with it overall!

    • +5

Same here. I bought it on the last deal for $959. It's a great little machine, very quick and does everything I need.

      • -3

        What $959!!!!!

      • How long is the delivery from the order day? Im heading overseas next Saturday, will it make it before I leave? Please advise me

        • +1

It will take about 2 weeks, they ship from China, not Australia.

        • +3

No, it gets built to order, then shipped. It'll take at least 2 weeks, maybe 3.

My delivery took about 3 weeks, however I wasn't in a hurry. For the delay they offered me a backpack - which is awesome.

    • What is the battery life like?

      • +8

Very good imo, bought it for school use and I can get about 8 hours with wifi on balanced and even more on power saver.

    • for you guys who bought it before, can you let me know how long it takes for them to deliver ?

      • Ordered January 17th, received January 30th, so about 2 weeks.

  • No no no no! I need this deal next month! :(

  • Just found the T470 on the Lenovo page, wonder when it'll drop in price; http://www3.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-t-ser…

    • +6

That's any laptop CPU unless you move into the HQ range, usually found in gaming laptops, or much more expensive models.

They are also 45W TDP versus 15W TDP so are totally different in what they are used for.

    • Good luck finding a HQ in this form factor at this price.

      • -2

Good luck carrying this bulk of chunk with only 2 cores! I love 2 core laptops but would not carry a tank for the CPU power of a bike if they paid me!
Maximum weight for a 2 core laptop for me should be below 500-800 grams, maximum thickness 1cm, maximum screen size 14inch.
If I am going to carry a tank, I carry a tank with tank power.

        • +3

          You're on OzBARGAIN, not OzImWillingToPayMoreBecauseItDoesntFitMinimumSpecsThatIwantEvenThoughThePriceIsGreatForEveryoneElseButIllRidiculeThemAnyway

  • +1

Is keyboard backlit and what's the weight thanks.

    • Not backlit

      • +7

That's a huge shame at this specs and pricepoint imho.

        • +2

absolutely backlit keyboard should be expected in this price range

  • +2

1.9kg… damn. If it was 1.2 maybe we'd be talking…

    • +2

If it was 1.2kg it would probably cost a bit more than this.

      • Not at 2 cores.

        • This is 2 cores? What's a piece of crap

        • +2

@aerona: 2 core is standard for this price and design. Most laptops with quads are for specialised purpose. For majority of the market, dual core is better due to higher battery efficiency and heat efficiency.

        • @Wonderfool: While on a niche basis you are correct, alot of the time CPU chosen is actually dependent on what is in the current high volume production lines.. It may be hard to believe but the customer doesn't always come in first place when competing with price.. And the references to power are so dependent on the architecture these days, not the core cluster size.

  • +5

You won't get build quality and specs like that for any cheaper. Great deal.

I'm currently more interested in a lighter ultrabook-style laptop, but for under $900 (after CR) this is really hard to resist!

  • I bought one end of last year and very happy with it. I paid $1099 for it and cpu was i7 7200

  • Would this be good for basic video editing? I already have a screen to attach it to.

    • +1

      any computer will do that.

    • +1

Dedicated graphics, SSD, 16GB of RAM. Can't really go wrong for basic video editing.

    • -4

Not with 2 cores, steer clear

      • +1

LOL don't talk out of your ass.

  • Can this laptop handle witcher 3 ?

    • -1

      No

    • +1

I have a similarly specced laptop (worse processor but slightly better graphics card) and it plays Witcher 3 fine on low graphic settings. No frame drops or performance issues.

      • Well the graphics card is what matters most here, I imagine yours would run better

  • +2

great deal on some great hardware, specs look boss.

i personally find lenovo's looks not as appealing as some other brands but this hot price ughhhh lol

  • +1

Damn that price is awesome…if only I actually needed a new laptop.

    • I know right, I have two laptops and a Surface Pro … but they're all a few years old and I don't really use them.

… but cheap deal, is cheap.

  • Will photoshop, illustrator and indesign work smoothly on this?
Asking as a design student in need of a budget (<1000$) portable (<2kg) laptop. I don't plan on anything too intensive, but it'd be really nice to have something I can comfortably work on while in class/at uni.

    • +1

Depends on what you're doing, but yes. The 14" screen will be the bigger issues with design work, than the hardware keeping up.

    • +1

It does a decent job with lightroom + pp. That said, my raw files aren't that big (35mb) and I don't do heavy photoshopping with hundred of layers (15 tops).

It does feel light due to its plasticy framing and I could carry it with one hand around. The oils of your hands and finger will stick in the laptop quite quickly , but most laptops will.

    • +1

Colour gamut is like 72% on these things. Would only be suitable for high quality work if you plugged a different monitor into it.

  • Please excuse the ignorance, don't know anything about laptop GPUs. How does this compare to say a GTX660 (2GB)?

    • +1

All these laptop GPUs are mobile versions so comparison to full version due to similar numbers is misleading ….. Same with CPUs they are mobile versions. But it's the trade-off for mobility due to heat and cooling constraints.

    • +1

Probably around half the performance of a 660 if the 940MX is the 512 CUDA core 2GB GDDR5 version. If it's the ddr3 version then it will be even less. It doesn't specify.

    • +1

If price isn't an issue I'd wait abit if I was you, at the moment, through the magic of pascal architecture for GPU's they are now putting desktop formfactor 1080's in high range gaming models, give it a year and you'll probably see the the low end of 1080 laptops coming into the $1500 range. Currently at about $2100 for cheapest but the USD -> AUD currency conversion isn't helping either! :(

      • +1

Where are you seeing 1080 laptops for that cheap? From what I can see $2.1k is high-end 1060 builds?

        • +1

Sorry, I phrased it wrong and it's too late to go back and edit now, In hindsight I shouldn't have wrote it like I did but I was talking in USD.

        • +2

          @dfaktz: Ah right, makes sense!

  • $873.27 with cash rewards what do people think about these spec for this price? Dont know that much about computers to be honest. Just want something to use and backup photos and do some basic FHD video editing

    • +3

Its a good spec and excellent value. The only drawbacks are average build quality, thickness and weight. It is not ideal if you plan to travel with it, but great if you plan to use it at your desk and around the house. I'm more interested in portable laptop these days, like the T460S.

  • 940MX is a let down though. Apart that it is perfect for everyday computing.

    • Many people can get by with integrated graphics. Can still do some basic photo and video editing im sure.

      • +1

Even i3 series can handle such basic tasks if it is paired with a decent SSD(Samsung or Micron) and over 8GB of RAM.

    • It can play most popular games just fine (Overwatch, Dota 2, Leage of Legends, etc) and can run most modern AA games at low settings.

  • +1

Got one from last sale (AUD$959), shipped from Shanghai for roughly 2 weeks.
Despite the missing backlit, the key board is pretty comfortable, and QUIET!
Was thinking of upgrading the RAM to 32GB however surprisingly it runs my 3 virtual machines (Virtualbox: win2012 4GB Ram 1CPU, ubuntu 2GB Ram 1CPU, win7 2GB Ram 1CPU) at the same time smoothly with its 16GB. I didn't do gaming though.
Battery is not that strong but it's good enough, very enough.
    Very much satisfied.

    • how long does battery lasts for your usage?

  • Has anyone else dealt with Lenovo warranty? So far it has been the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

    • I dont think HP warranty is any better.

      • Last time I dealt with HP warranty was last year and it took a literal month and a complaint about a complaint about a complaint to get them to send a tech they'd promised to send several times prior.

Last time I dealt with Lenovo was about three and a half years ago now, had enough dead pixels on my T530 to get the screen replaced. Called them, parts arrived in two days to the local place that does the Lenovo repairs, dropped the laptop into them and they dropped the laptop back to my work at lunch to me. That said, I had paid for the onsite warranty upgrade, which I do strongly reccomend for this very reason so that you don't have to send it away for a couple of weeks if it goes pearshaped.

  • Do you know if we can claim TRS for this? Do is come with Tax Invoice with ABN?

    Thank you

    • Pretty sure it does.

  • I have issue with mine when using extended desktop. Mircrosft office apps don't scale properly when moving from screen to screen (i.e blurry). Anyone know of any ideas?

  • Was about to pull the trigger on a Dell 13 5000 2-in-1 with an i5 for work trips but now this has me second guessing that choice…

  • +2

What would a desktop computer cost with comparable performance?

    • +1

Around $700 inclusive; but you will have much better performance from the desktop inherently, no power bottlenecks, cheaper parts, easier to replace and upgrade as time goes on, etc.

  • Thanks TA. Was just about to buy a Dell 15 3000 for my Mum but this is a heaps better buy.

  • i'm still waiting for mine that I purchased on 15 December last year.

If they lose your package in transit, don't expect to get it soon. If you don't follow up they won't care.

Their after sale support is limited by the requirement to get the external couriers to confirm the package has been lost (which obviously have no urgency to confirm an item is lost). In the meantime you are forced to wait.

Note: the after sales support is very poor at returning email, returning voicemail and giving updates so be very very patient.

  • Apparently it won't pair nicely with a 4K monitor and give 4K res on the monitor plugged in… Is that correct?
Does it come with win10 installed on the SSD and run fast with that SSD and the help of the 16GB ram?

  • Where can I see this computer? Would Harvey Norman sell one like this? want to get a feel for it before taking the plunge

  • Is it possible to get one without windows 10 to save even more?

  • Just in case this info is useful to anyone. I'm buying one for a family member who will be taking it back to the UK with them. Lenovo just confirmed that it (and all the ThinkPad range) is covered by international warranty. My understanding was that this is limited to only some countries, but they say it's a worldwide one.

Makes this an even better deal again. Good by MacBook Pro

    • All thinkpads carry international warranty.

  • +1

Decisions, decisions…grab this or wait and hope TA can work his magical negotiating skills on another T460s deal, especially seeing it at $1700 now…!?!?

    • They're currently out of stock so I don't forsee a T460s offer happening very soon. My laptop broke yesterday so I had to order another ASAP. Ended up going with the Dell XPS posted on eBay.

  • Yes. MSI gaming machine has GTX 1050 for $1795.20.

It is available on Ebay Futu Online 20%. End on 13th February 2017.

    On the configuration on RAM:

    16GB DDR4 2400MHz SODIMM
    16GB(8+8) DDR4 2400MHz SODIMM

    $0 option

Is there a reason why you'd go for the 2 x 8GB modules and not get the single 16GB module so you could upgrade in future?

    • The E470 is capable of operating RAM in 'dual channel'. Hence you'll get a marginal performance boost with the two sticks of RAM.

I don't know much about this stuff - this is an interesting read http://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/1349-ram-how-dual-channel-….

So my thoughts were I'd probably go the two sticks since I have no immediate plans to upgrade the RAM.

      • Thanks ajm07.

16GB is plenty so we most likely won't be upgrading it in the lifetime of the laptop - so will opt for the 2 sticks.

  • What do you guys think about this laptop vs an 13" ultrabook?
I do like the specs of this one, great value but worried at 2kg it might be a burden, also the dimension, can anyone comment how it is carrying around and doing work in it in a variety of places? e.g. at cafe, library, on train

  • Does anyone else have an issue where the laptop is not going in to sleep mode when the lid is shut? I can still hear notification sounds / the light on the back is still on when the lid is shut, which means that if I leave it a day, the battery is fully depleted.

Put the computer to sleep is set to 15 minutes on battery in Power Options, am I missing something?

    • +1

In Power Options on the sidebar there is an option that says Choose what closing the lid does. It's probably been set to Do nothing instead of Sleep, Hibernate, Shutdown etc.

      • Thanks, I have just checked this, and it is already set to Sleep. I have just tried changing the settings, and changing them back, hopefully this makes a difference.

      • Actually, I think that my laptop is going in to sleep mode, though experiencing huge battery drain.

        15:56:33 Active Battery 96 % 46,660 mWh
        22:27:51 Suspended 5 % 2,490 mWh

Is anyone else having this issue? Went from 96% to 5% in just over 5 hours whilst in sleep mode yesterday.

  • +1

Looks like the deal is still available for $969.00

    • Ends 9pm Friday (17th Feb).
