  • What kind of Data packs can you get with this $30?

  • So what is the deal with some of these "everything but vodafone" packs… have heard that they are somehow activated on purchase or "limited expiry" of some sort. Can anyone please give the definitive truth?

    • To clarify, meaning that vodafone still generous with starter pack expiry (unlimited expiry afaik)…… vs. other telcos

      • i still have voda packs and keeping it…since im aware optus starter pack able to use as form of recharge, looking out for optus pack for next year.

    • The new Optus ones need to be activated within 30 days of purchase or the credit expires

        Has anyone confirmed that?

I recently activated 2 optus sim cards I bought few months ago, still worked.
I believe the 30 days mean those special deals like double data, will expire within 30 days of purchase.

Can any Optus staff clarify that?

        • No one i know has activated them after 30 days. Those sim cards you bought were different. The NEW ones have a sticker that says activate within 30 days.
Please have a look at the new packs first

        • we need a confirmation and clarify this about 30 days thing…

Seems like Telstra ones haven't been half price (or cheaper) in a while, which is a bit of a shame.

    • I feel you; I'm down to my last pack! D: (I go through a new pack every month for my iPad)

  • Can the credit be used for Google Play Store purchases?

    • No.

  • most important question is do Optus Starter Pack need to be activated within 30 days of purchase? i grab a few packs 2 months ago and saw the yellow sticker so only grab 1…

  • I find to get the best value out of these $30 packs for $10 is to activate them on the $2 a day plan. that way I can use internet for up to 15 days on this and you only use what days you want. With this method you get up to 7.5 gigs of data plus unlimited phone calls and messages for $10 for 15 days use. if you go over the 500 megs per day then you can go up to 1 gig per day before it maxes out for the day. I keep an eye on my usage by checking it on https://www.optus.com.au/customercentre/myaccount/dashboard but you need to refresh that page again before it shows your usage in real time or follow the links at optus. I'm heading off to coles now to buy a couple of more sims :)

      Agree.

One good thing you forget to mention is that the $30 can last for 6 months, so it is also good in keeping a number, e.g. when you go overseas for 3 months.

      • That would depend on how much it would cost having roaming enabled. I didn't check what roaming costs are as I just buy a sim there and use it. Even if you don't make any calls/sms, someone still has to pay.

      • yes they do last for 6 months if you don't recharge them, so do the $10 sims activated on a $2 day .

        • I think you have made a mistake. $10 SIM activated on a $2/day only lasts for a month.

"Recharges that start from $10 have 30 days expiry, and recharges $30+ have 6 months expiry."

        • @seniordoc:

what expiry are you talking about?

There are 2 different Expiry dates for sim:

1/ Expiry date of the data or plan, which is the 30 days you mention.

2/ Expiry Date of the sim card - that is when the sim expires and you don't top it up which is 6 months for all optus sims.

Some plans last for 7 days, others last for 6 months all more. People should be clear what expiry date they are on about, the sim or the plan!!!!!

        • @mleek:

          1. Correct

          2. Incorrect. If you buy $30 sim card you would notice a sticker saying; Activate within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised on a promotion.

        • @seniordoc:

          That's why you buy $30 sim for $10 :)

    • @tnasams
You forgot to mention that; We'll auto bump you up with an extra 524MB data to a maximum of $4/1GB for the day. So if you are not careful you might be paying more than it is worth. I'd rather it be disabled because, 1. how reliable is their usage in real time and 2. I don't want to spend time checking how much data is spent.

      • you still get the 7.5 gigs if you use the 1 gig on a day but it means you would get 2 days internet if you just use 500megs or less but if you go over then you use 1 gig so that is 2 days. yes I agree it might put some off but I also monitor my usage in real time and I know what I'm using. Some days I want to go up to 1 gig if I have things to download etc. Sometimes i might active a few sims so I can use 2 or 3 gigs for the day and change sims.

  • I just tried activating a sim I bought a few months ago. The first one wouldn't work but the second one bought at the same time did. Both had the Feb 2018 expiry date but no yellow sticker.

  • There's a double data promo going on. I got 6GB on activating the $30/28day

    • @Hogg

It was supposed to end, but if you still get it all the better.

      • When was it supposed to end? I ported on Saturday.

I also saw adds about it at Westfield.

Although other deals might be better now like Kogan's 12GB Data, Unlimited Calls & Texts $1 (30 Days).
