Very nice girls in Vietnam for massage.

Anyone have experience with air Asia? Any good?

    • +1

      Go on…

    • +7

Probably the only time a girl would touch you, enjoy.

      • Air Asia X, and Air Asia Indo are different airlines, very different safety standards, records and oversight.

Singapore/Malaysian based airlines are much safer than anything from Indonesia.

    • Just flown 6 Air Asia flights in the past month. I'd recommend them to anybody. Especially for the price!
It's nothing fancy but comfortable enough.
Note the plane was absolutely sub-zero freezing on the way over to KL. Everyone was complaining. Fine coming back to Aus though.

  • +1

Took Air Asia to VN a few times plus in and around Asia and would use them again. Prebooked food and extra baggage is lower than Jetstar or other budget airlines.

  • Took air Asia to BKK , first leg my seat wouldn't recline and couldn't change it because flight was full…return flight got food poisoning… not funny…

  • When booking Danang to KL recently the CC charge was a flat $10.50. The base fare was $70. No choice of carriers as only AA fly this route. When looking at flights PER-DPS the fee was a flat $10 each way. Their fees were never this high before. Expect $40+ in CC fees for Oz to Vietnam and return ($10+ each way each sector). It seems they have not fallen into line with the RBA/ACCC direction in relation to CC fees for carriers flying out of Oz.

    • Flight with Jetstar then, they now charge just over 1% total fare on credit card,0.4% for debit card.

  • +2

AirAsiaX is a budget airline, but I think their service is better than Jetstar. Plus their luggage rates are cheaper, and the food is delicious (and cheap)! No alcohol on their planes though, from what I remember

These are good prices, but be aware getting in to May/June is the wet season so expect daily downpours (usually they come and go in a few minutes forunately)

  • +2

Direct 8 hours flight on Jetstar is better. Last time I flew Air Asia, the whole flight plus layover took 22 hours.

    • Ouch, you might have just selected the wrong flight on the KUL-SGN leg

  • Great destination…

But Jetstar had a recent sale, and cheaper from MEL.

  • What are the airport stopover times to from Gold Coast or Darwin?

  • no Adelaide? :(

    • +2

Adelaide would need to have an international airport.

      • it has, but really sucks

  • Is Vietnam scary?

    • +5

      Only if you get flashbacks.

    • Not for the faint hearted.

      • Same as Thailand sort of?

        • nothing like thailand, vietnam is a communist country

        • +1

They don't worship some stinking royal muppets.

    • They kidnap kids and sell them across the border to the Chinese.

    • +1

      Crossing the road is!!

Everything else feels very safe - keep in mind you'll likely be taller than 90% of the population over there. I'm average height & build but feel like a bodybuilding giant in SE Asia

    • Vietnam is pretty packed and I was there just last week, you'll be fine if you visit Vietnam. Beware of the snatchers and do not hold valuables out for a long period of time.

  • +4

everyone gets scammed in Vietnam. absolutely no exceptions.
    but the food is good

    • I felt that way in Thailand. It was the only crap part of the trip. Planning to go to Vietnam, do you have any tips to avoid? :)

      • +2

Get your Visa through the canberra embassy before hand and get a 5 year multiple entry visa if you plan to go to Vietnam often, only $20 more than a single entry visa. If you get one upon arrival it would be double the charge and there is even a chance that you will be denied boarding depending on the check in staff

        • Avoid street food that look extremely dodgy as this can lead to food poisoning

        • The ice tea they normally provide at restaurants can also lead to food poisoning, the ice there isn't pleasant.

        • Only travel on Mai Linh Group and/or Vinasun Taxi, these are the only reliable taxi companies in Vietnam, you could also use an Uber

        • Don't accept any offers from somebody as they make you think they are doing it for free when really they will ask for money afterwards

        • Don't keep valuables out

        • After landing in Vietnam, do not go through the security where the sign says "EVERYTHING MUST BE DECLARED", instead go to the one where it says nothing to be declared. I went through everything must be declared and they charged me $40 for bringing in too much meat.

        • When crossing the road, run for your lives take precaution but make sure to move a few inches when the little space is clear. This will ensure you get across the road without waiting for longer

        • Do not drink tap water, only bottled or water that has been in the kettle

        • Try not to end yourself up in Vietnam hospitals, they are not as skilful as Australian hospitals

        • Appreciate the tips. Will be really valuable, thank you!!

        • @Ninth Sphere: No worries, have a pleasant trip to Vietnam!

      • +1

road deaths in South East Asia are a lot higher than in Australia.
I avoid renting scooters as cheap as it is.
last time i looked at this i read that 10 people die everyday in Thailand on the road.

        • dont let anyone touch your shoes on the street, you will understand this once your there. be firm but not rude about it.

        • for any country i always google common scams for particular country

respect people and you will be fine

        • Thanks for the tips! Experienced horrible roads in Thailand and driving conditions were poor in the rain season. We saw two different instances of bikes behind us sliding at speed and toppling over each other. Scary stuff.

I'm curious about what you mentioned with the shoes. AFAIK it's not good to use your feet to do anything (like point), wear shoes inside, touch people with your shoes…?

        • @Ninth Sphere:
In Vietnam , in Hanoi, guys try to repair your shoes etc, then ask for a fee, within 2 minutes of leaving hotel. Not in Saigon for some reason.
Google : common Vietnam scams - that's a must for any country, because poor people get crafty.
Yea, be careful on the road, and don't do anything your insurance doesn't cover, and have fun :)

  • I have flown Air Asia 4 times, not a problem. Just remember it's a budget airline.
Been to Vietnam 3 times. Love it. Hard to remember it is a communist country when haggling at a market.
But great people, beautiful scenery, stunning food. And really good beer starts at A50 cents!
