Product in stock isn't really a deal bro

    • +8

Didn't post it because it's a deal mate, so many people missed out as they sold out basically instantly. Hence I thought I'd try and let them know.

      • +35

        "Didn't post because it's a deal"

Sort of a big problem considering this is a website dedicated to actual deals & bargains…

        • +59

          This isn't OzStock.

        • +2

          @PainToad:

Considering it sells for $200+ on ebay I think it is a deal.

      • +1

Post it in the forums then.

    • -1

I agree with both OP and this comment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ussCHoQttyQ

    • +17

Jeez you guys are pretty harsh. Can't even appreciate that someone would let others know about a popular item that has been sold out recently. If you don't want to buy that's fine, you can make that call, but others may prefer to buy it at RRP.

      • +17

That is the reason why I stop posting things up on this page - Rather then appreciating and thanking the members for sharing and Contributing the oz bargain police will be there to have their say.

      • +7

The front page isn't for chit chat. It's for bargains. Some people need to learn the difference between posting a deal and posting in the forum.

      • +8

I can appreciate people posting information, but it still doesnt belong here as a deal, because its not a deal and its RRP. Its a restock announcement that belongs in the forums. Its like if someone posted gardening tips as a deal. Thats great, much appreciated. But its not a deal. Why do people take negs so seriously? A negative vote is about the bargain. Thats it. Its not a personal attack and its not about being mean. Whats worse is sellers using OzBargain as an advertising platform and the amount of spam deals that keep on popping up, or the deals that people mindlessly upvote even though it was an error and it ends up with 300+ votes even though nobody got it, and now we have people posting restocking items as a bargain. Ugh. There's the forums/Reddit/Facebook for that. Let's keep OzBargain deals clean and not compromise on quality.

    • +9

Definition of bargain isn't necessarily "cheaper than recommended retail" especially when many retailers inflate the RRP anyway. If it is cheaper than practically anywhere else you can buy it online, and perhaps more importantly if it is a product that you can immediately sell for a 200% profit, then some would argue that is the true "bargain". If someone is selling a Ferrari 250GTO for its original recommended retail price, that would be the bargain of the century for example… others include a Hamilton ticket at its face value, or 3 days ago Australian Open Finals tickets at face value. When something is rare, having the stock in a way becomes the definition of a bargain.

    • -1

A listing of a product at full RRP simply being on the shelf and in stock is not a valid bargain post here.

    • If no one has an item in stock anywhere then finding someone with stock even selling at RRP could be considered a bargain compared to paying the inflated 2x RRP that said item is currently selling for on eBay.

  • Big W CBD hasn't received stock, or heard of stock coming in

    • +1

      Southland has got stock

      • +1

Not anymore. Southland have sold out.

  • +8

    Regular price, no deal

  • +21

    RRP is not a bargain

    • +11

RRP is irrelevant. When Myer has 40% off RRP on suitcases it's not a deal because RRP is not the going rate. Conversely the going rate for on a Nintendo Classic Mini is $200 or more.

  • +13

rip-job for an emulator with 30 30 year old games

    • +3

I have a raspberry pi setup with retropi setup with ps3 controllers wirelessly and even an original nintendo with all the games on it.

      I still want it.

      • +7

        You have issues :)

      • +2

Maybe spend a bit more, buy a 3D printer and print a Nintendo case for your raspberry pi? Pretty much same thing.

        • +1

If buy pretty much you mean nothing alike.

        • +1

Or just buy one made, about $25 from memory

        • +1

@bti_jet: Got a link? I haven't looked at custom pi cases but it's a good idea if you're going for a certain look 😊

        • +1

          @Putnum:

          http://m.bonanza.com/listings/mini-nes-pi-3-case-3d-printed-…

There's more designs out there just need to search on google. Much better doing this IMO, you'll have all the ROMs at the end of the day, also buy new USB controller for proper nostalgic

        • @bti_jet: I've already got a pi 3b with raspbian, kodi and retropi trial bootups :)

        • +1

          @kasp:
Both be running an ARM CPU running Linux and an emulator. So I stand by my statement.

Difference is that cheap USB NES controllers come with much longer cables and even a cheap SD card would fit way more ROMs.

      • I'm with you. I don't know why I want one, but I just do! But I'm a patient man, so when I find one I find one.

    • +2

For collectors like myself, we will pay any price for a hard-to-get official product. You could say the same for genuine paintings. Why get the real deal when a printed poster is so much cheaper and better?

      • +1

Buying this product seems opposite to what a real collector would do.
This is almost the equivalent of buying the poster instead of the original painting. It looks and plays the same but is an cheaply made reproduction (and not even really that as it's deliberately different in some design aspects) of the original.

        • Not really. I have 3 NES consoles already. This would be a fantastic addition to my collection of Nintendo/Famicom stuff. I buy it to collect for collection's sake, not for its ability to play games.

        • exactly what im thinking, no real collector would waste money on this. thats why people are spending big $$$$ on the original

  • +10

Not sure if I'm even bothered to buy this anymore, the hype has gone. Nintendo lost out on a lot of potential sales big time IMO by not producing a high volume of units for this. I was looking all over the internet trying to find one for sale a few months ago, even to pay premium for it, but now I'm just over it. I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way.

    • +2

Yet when it comes back in spot you will be racing to it just like I will be.

      • I lined up to buy it b4 christmas and missed out, but, I'm over it now. I have had several chances to buy it since Christmas, passed every time.

    • +1

I'm over it too. I've bought too many ps4 games during boxing day sales and this will probably just be sitting in my room catching dust until I finish all my other games.

  • +2

    no bargain no bargain

I don't feel RRP is a deal. Stock has been scarce but the products been available at multiple locations and times at this price.

  • +3

can we have a new tab at top of page for NOT deals or hard to get items FFS

  • -7

Sorry you posted to wrong site ozrrp.com.au

  • +50

Everyone needs to stop being so whiney about "RRP is not a bargain" rubbish. A "bargain" is inherently relative. For example, cigarettes in Japan retail for roughly 450 yen (~$6) per pack. If I offer it to a Japanese person, they'll scoff since it's "just RRP", but if I offer it to an Australian, it's a bargain because Australia's heavy taxes make it much more expensive.

When your only option to purchase this item is through the resale market where prices range from $250 to $350, then this IS a bargain. $99 instead of the "resale tax" inflated price of $250 or so. If this were simply an item that came in and out of stock every other week, then I would agree that "RRP is not a bargain". But this item has had thousands of units moved at resale prices, which is obviously vastly different.

    • +9

Well said. And if you are offended by someone posting something at RRP why would you bother clicking into the post just to neg the deal?

    • -1

I would actually support a neg vote against Nintendo because they imo create artificial demand which encourages people to scalp. I think it's a great little nostalgia treat though and if you want to add ROMs but have the NES look infront iof you it's a good option if you can pick it up without paying overs

      • +2

Yes, but that is up to people to make their choices. Notifying people that something has come into stock, that was scarce, is fine by my books. I'm not buying this, as it isn't something I'm interested in, but I do wonder why people have to jump in and whine that something isn't a deal. For someone who desperately wants one then RRP is a deal. The "deal" police on this site are driving people away. Let people post and then if you have a better price put it in the comments section, if you don't then back off. FFS stop with the negs if this is all you've got to sprinkle them on.

      • -1

They didn't create artificial demand. They made enough that they thought would sell, they didn't expect it to be so popular so now they are on the back foot trying to get these made as well as produce the switch at the same time.

    • and some people make there own definition up to the word bargain

    • +4

Let me get this right… it's a good deal because it's below the the inflated prices of greedy resellers taking advantage of Nintendo's limited stock?

Being unwilling to pay the outrageous resale prices and growing impatient waiting for prices and/or stocks to stabilize, does not make this a bargain. This is RRP. The games are decade old classics, they're not going anywhere fast.

    • Great comment, well said.

    • Where can I get some of these Japanese smokes? wow!

  • +3

It's a bargain if it is of interest to you.

    • For me "compelling price" is what makes a bargain, a price I would buy it for now rather than wait. This could be 10% off or 40% depending how badly I want it…. and that it might not be cheaper tomorrow …..

  • +1

I think you just lucked out with stock. Not really a deal at RRP and stock not being readily available.

  • +3

This is the RRP for this product. It's not a bargain. It belongs in the forums.

    • -7

There's no RRP rule, perhaps you'd like to try again?

      • 9 people can't handle the truth, I'm disappointed in you downvoters

    • +1

But it's a Nintendo product, so for some reason some people think it's exempt. :P

  • +3

There have been plenty of Mini NES posted at $99. Deal or not, the mods are obviously OK with it.

  • +7

Again. I don't care who complain about this not being a Deal.

I just got one for my brother and one for my best mate.

Thank you for the heads up.

    • What store

      • Cumberland Park, SA

  • +5

You guys must have missed out on the previous NES Classic "Bargain" @ Catchoftheday. Apparently RRP is still a bargain as long as you can actually obtain it at that price. LOL.

  • +5

    No dice, RRP

    • +5

No one pays full retail for dice anymore.

    • +1

Doesn't come with dice? What next? No band 28 either I guess?

  • I just called up Box Hill VIC and they don't have stock and have no idea if they'll get stock…

    • Try to call some of them.

I just got 2 from BigW in Adelaide.

      • hey man which big Ws did you go to?? i tried two stores and just assumed it wasn't available

        • Cumberland Park. Got 2 and my workmate got 1 this morning!!

        • @passenger1:

          wanna sell any?

        • Just call them now. I got them for friend and brother. Not reselling. Sorry mate.

Call them now. My workmate just called the store this morning and got 1 on hold.

      • +2

        What store?

        • Cumberland Park

  • None @ big w Albury.

  • Heading to Chermside now, will check for y'all.

    • Nothing at Chermside. Attendant said if any store was getting stock, it'd be North Lakes. Haven't called tho peeps.

  • thanks for the heads up, wished their online store had stock :(

  • For the RRP people, are you okay if I post all Lego at Big W as a deal because it is below RRP?

RRP doesn't matter, it's a bargain because it is a scarce product and the cheapest you can get it is RRP.

  • Commenting to neg this non-deal.

Don't want ozbargain full of spam posts on what popular item is in stock at RRP.

    • Are you by any chance irony impaired?

    • Wow thanks for bringing that to our attention mate, I mean, 9999999 people didn't already mention the same thing before you?!?!

  • +1

Should be in forums. No deal

  • +2

Wonder what me from 1990 would make of this.

    • Amidst the debates of whether or not this is a deal, your post is something worth thinking about.

  • Mother of God…

  • +4

RRP is a bargain when you're talking about an item that is hugely in demand and goes for 250% of RRP regularly on resale sites. $99 is the cheapest you can get an NES Mini. Some will scoff at that price, but many would love to get one for $99. When your options are $250 on ebay or $99 at Big W, then the Big W option is a bargain.

    • +1

Resellers ripping you off does not make the normal price a bargain. It just means the resellers are ripping you off.

    • +1

People's stupidity and impatience does not make RRP a bargain. Item was available for pre-order after all

      • +4

Yeah, available in extremely limited numbers for preorder and completely sold out.
This is the cheapest place to get it, RRP is irrelevant, as the current going rate is 2-3x higher than RRP.

Clearly a lot of people are interested in this, i dont get why so many of you are having a cry. If it's not of interest to you, move on. It's not like Ozbargain will all of the sudden implode and cease to exist.

        • +2

Why are you comparing a store price to private sales. I didn't know Broden was the Ozbargain measure of bargains. Which stores are selling 2-3x higher than RRP? Or just name one.

I'm not at all upset but I could say the same for you and everyone defending this deal. Given the negs to my comments this is a far more realistic. The RRP is overpriced anyway and there are far better and cheaper alternatives. I'm just executing my right to vote. At the end of the day this deal sucks.

        • +1

We have a PS4 and xbox one but the appeal with retro games is they are so easy to learn …… Don't have to invest much time to get to a level it's fun.

        • +3

          @4agte:

Name me a store that has them in stock at RRP.
It might not be a deal for you, but it is for people that have been trying to get their hands on one for months.

If Southland was a bit closer to where I lived, I would have gone to buy one. And if it weren't for this post I would have had no idea. Everywhere has been out of stock since release, and it's next to impossible to know which stores are restocking or when they are restocking.

End of the day, Ozbargain is about helping each other out. If this post helps a few people secure something they've wanted for months and wouldn't have known otherwise, then what does it really matter if it doesn't fit the standard definition of what's considered a 'deal'? Some people are clearly overreacting with comments such as "Don't want ozbargain full of spam posts on what popular item is in stock at RRP."

        • +1

          @sjn:

Name me a store that has them in stock at RRP.

Great way to avoid a question by repeating my very own question.

I'm sure I have a much better chance of finding stock then any store selling them 2 to 3 times higher than RRP

As I've mentioned low stock does not make something a bargain. Give it two weeks and someone else will have stock. Then someone else after that and so on. That is how back orders work.
