210

I preordered this from expansys a couple of days ago.

Been scanning around for this vacuum for awhile now. Previous best price I could find was at Gearbest for $484.90 AUD + shipping.

Decent reviews around and comparable to the higher end Roomba & Dyson: http://www.vacuumsguide.com/xiaomi-mi-robot-vacuum-cleaner/

  • So $450.99 in other words? Interesting that they mention ex GST.

  • -1

I'm presuming thats what A$409.99 exc. ($450.99). Still works out cheaper than Gearbest + shipping

  • +8

put total amount with gst in title

  • +1

Might want to change title to state '$450.99' instead of '$409.99 Ex GST'.

  • I'm pretty sure you get the product at the ex-GST price. And free shipping for orders over $300. https://db.tt/Cq5cJqiPki

    • -1

Im not sure, hence I left with ex-GST. Im hoping I will :)

      • Take a screenshot of the whole page showing their "Spend less than $1000 AUD and get it GST free" spiel then. It sounds pretty clear to me.

        • I ordered before the sale, so "Spend less than $1000 AUD and get it GST free" spiel wasnt up yet. Confirmed… $409.99 AUD shipped atm.

Note for anyone with an Android phone/tablet etc - you can convert the user interface to English using https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L194Hezyoo4 You will still get the occasional message in Chinese but these would generally only be errors like bin full/brush tangled and they show you an animation of how to fix the error anyway.
Also having owned the Xiaomi vac for a few months, I'm happy with it and don't think there is anything the others could do to justify the huge jump in price.

  • will this can really vacuum stuffs or just sweep around? hard to believe the small device like this can have strong vacuum/suction power like the conventional type of vacuum (not comparing with small handheld dyson either)

    • I wouldn't bother with one for carpets.. hard floors should be good. I currently have a Deebot and he does a great job on hardfloors but he ain't that smart.

    • +1

It vacuums, not just a sweeper. Will pick up plenty from carpet, and if you're anything like me you'll just schedule it to run every day so it will keep your carpets cleaner than most people who drag a corded vacuum around once/twice a week are likely to.

It obviously won't have the raw power/suction of a high end corded Dyson/Miele etc vacuum, but even still I'm doubtful that they would pull much extra out of my carpets than the robot.

  • Where can I get the cheapest xiaomi robot vac on the market?

  • +2

I have the ilife a4 vacuum cleaner and it works very well. Great suction and the little bin is always full of dust every 2 days. Paid $200 for it. Just a suggestion of an alternative robot vacuum.

  • Yeah heaps to choose from. This is the Deebot I have, he is only 57mm high so great for under the bed, TV unit or couch

High Sensitivity and Precision Sensor System
The Mi Robot Vacuum Cleaner uses its set of 12 sensors - including ultrasonic radar sensor, cliff sensor, gyroscope, and accelerometer - to map out the interiors of your life.

we need a special thread with 100+ pages long if we want to start picking up chin-lish mistakes

      • +1

        chin-lish

what's wrong with my chin now?

      • Chinglish*

  • Isnt Neato about same price?? And a much more reliable brand.

    • Does the Neato have (SLAM) movement algorithm in the same price point?

      • Neato has its own movement algorithm and laser location. Very similar but obviously Neato is more expensive .Having said that, the dust bin on the Xiaomi is very small and seeing how quickly the bin in the Neato fills up I think 2 hours of work may be interrupted frequently by having to empty the bin. Also, the Neato works well on carpet. Very well in fact.

Still for the price it may be worth considering. I'll wait for the bugs to be ironed out first and the Chinglish to be sorted out.

        • If you're running it regularly there will be less for it to pick up - if you only run it once a week then yeah you're likely to fill the bin nice and quick, but I normally empty mine twice a week (normally before it's full) and it runs every day. I can't directly compare to a neato as I don't have one but the Xiaomi also works very well on carpet.

Only bug I've noticed on mine is it will occasionally report the brush is tangled when it isn't - just means pressing the clean button on your phone again and it continues from where it left off. Chinglish is of no concern, doesn't affect the usability at all - hell I've just got mine scheduled to run every day when I'm not home, so I rarely even have to go into the app and when I do it's fairly easy to use regardless.

I have one, it is great, happy to answer any questions.

    • +6

      whats your favourite pizza?

      • +7

Cheese, light on sauce, with chilli flakes and cajun spices.

    • How does it go on carpets?
      Worth buying?
How would it going across a couple of rooms/doorways on the same level?

      • +1

All hardwood at our place so cannot comment about carpets.

Well and truly worth buying, we have 2 cats and it handles their fur well. Only downsides is that it cannot do stairs and that the app is only in Chinese, but which is pretty easy to understand thanks to YouTube tutorials which have translated it for you.

Multi rooms across the same level is not an issue, it does actually map out and figure out a good route. In the accompanying app it shows you the floorplan it has worked out from its scanning and the floor already covered (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1dVZLaREZM ).

      • I also have one - yes worth buying, I can basically get away with not vacuuming manually any more except for the occasional spill or areas I've blocked it off from. Does great on carpets, aside from the occasional random bit of string I haven't noticed anything left on the carpets and they feel very clean. Pops in and out of rooms/doorways no issues at all. Only thing as Yapapi said is it won't do stairs (has no cliff sensor, so you'll need the virtual wall magnetic strip if you have stairs/large drop offs), but if you're talking a single level house/apartment it's no issues at all.

        • +1

No, it does have cliff sensors, I have stairs and large drop offs, it hasn't fallen down any of them, no virtual wall required. I only say it doesn't do stairs in a tongue in cheek way in the sense that it doesn't vacuum the stairs (which is where much of our cats' fur seems to accumulate).

        • @Yapapi: Ahh there you go then, I'm sure one of the early video reviews I saw said it had no cliff sensors, but I never bothered checking further.

        • @WazzaP: Would be perfect if it could vacuum stairs. We've just bought a Dyson handheld stick just to do that task.

    • Do you need to recharge the thing or does it recharge itself?

      • It has a docking station which it returns to when it is done to recharge.

        • +1

Not only does it return to it, but it knows where the dock is (well, knows where it started from) and makes a bee-line back there, unlike a lot of others that float around hopelessly until they find the dock.

        • +1

@WazzaP: It is able to scan and figure out where the dock is. We keep our dock on the living room floor and I usually do that one last. I can start it anywhere on the living room floor and by the time it is done cleaning it has located the dock and does indeed make a bee line to it.

    • Yapapi do you have any experience with how this performs on hardwood floor ?

      • +1

All wood floor house, performs great.

        • Does it automatically just go from room to room vacuuming ? never had one before so not sure how they work.

Whilst Xioami is a good brand i'm a bit concerned over build quality especially when theres no warranty. Any issues to date ?

        • +1

          @sshazam:

Build quality seems good. It does go room to room, even draws you a groovy little map showing you its scan and where it has been which looks something like this: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/2btGR5bsqDQ/maxresdefault.jpg . In this review you can see it get finished with one review and then move on to the next (including avoiding a tumble down stairs) https://youtu.be/xQvlT41uVWU?t=20m40s

Haven't seen any build quality concerns, seems to be pretty well put together. Only issues have come from stuff it picks up getting tangled in the brush (such as mobile phone charge cables). But more an issue of us having them on the floor rather than the vacuum's fault.

This thing will most likely burn your house down when you are work or worse when you are asleep. If not from a battery fire. From a dodgy charge adaptor or a bad China to au convertor plug.

Youll look like a complete schmuck too, by buying an appliance that does not meet au standards, and get less sympathy than some idiot who fell asleep while having a ciggie in bed.

At the very least it could spread animal faeces across your entire house.

On the upside… It has wifi!

    • This thing will most likely burn your house down when you are work or worse when you are asleep. If not from a battery fire. From a dodgy charge adaptor or a bad China to au converter plug.
*Maybe use an AU adaptor purchased in AU

*so pretty much most ozbargainers buying phones and other electronics from overseas are schmucks?

At the very least it could spread animal faeces across your entire house.
*really dude? You realise most of the electronics in your is from China "spreadingfaeces".. like your phone.

      • +1

The animal faeces thing happened to a friend of mine, their cat dropped a deuce on the floor and the robo vac carried it across the house when they were out. Its not related to this particular model. Just robo vacs in general.

I guess im saying Maybe just using the vacuum that's in your closet is maybe more of a bargain than buying this. But its a free country I guess. Probably I put it too harshly, in an animated way. I just think my local tip gets enough ewaste.

I have bought 3 phones from china, it did not end well.

I'll admit that Xiaomi products are a cut above the rest, and I can see why folks would be attracted to this product.

    • +3

It's a standard figure 8 plug, no need for an adapter just use an AU lead. Haven't heard of any battery fires from these, and honestly if the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 fires shows anything it is that it doesn't matter if it's a well known brand or a smaller brand like Xiaomi, even the big ones can have issues.

As for spreading animal faeces across your house, yeah if you have a pet who regularly leaves you presents inside you should probably avoid any robot vacuum, but for those of us who don't come home to a steamer it's well worth while. And as your other comment says "using the vacuum that's in your closet is maybe more of a bargain than buying this" yeah that's cheaper, but $400 odd for something that (at least for me) means rarely having to drag out a vacuum cleaner is worth it - hell you could hand wash all of your clothes too if you wanted to save money, but most houses in Australia have washing machines, sometimes convenience is worth a few $$.

  • Has anyone had issues placing an order? When I click confirm and buy, it brings up the terms and conditions but doesn't let me proceed with the transaction.

    • +1

I have the same issue as you describe. I have sent them an email to resolve.

      • Did they give you a solution to this - I've emailed them this afternoon with the same problem, waiting for the response.

        • No response from them at the moment.

        • @Ford351: The pre-order is now working. Their customer service never replied back though.

  • I'm not sure why admin changed the price to $450.99 as there is a no GST deal with purchases under $1000. So it's still $409.99

  • Any idea when these will ship?

  • +1

Did anyone just get an email saying that their preorder is now AU$599.99?

    • Yup, just got that email and replied to them cancelling the preorder. That sort of bait and switch I doubt they'll get many people following through.

    • yip, picked up the phone immediately and called. Very helpful and they will get back to me. Maybe the more people phone the better? Does anyone have a screenshot of the price advertised?

      • The invoice for the pre-order in my account still shows the original price.

    • "AU$599.99 (the best price) with free shipping" Yeah I cancelled as well since it is (the worst price)

      • Same email - cancelled the order.

  • Merged from Got an Email from Expansys for The Previous Deal "Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Cleaner (Preorder) $409.99" - Now $599??

    Hi guys,

Related to the deal : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/289544

Pre-ordered, just received an email from Expansys, stating they hope that I'm well, that the vacuum will be in stock in a few days, and the price is now $599.99("the best price" they said) with free shipping.

    So I guess they won't be honouring the pre-order at $409.99 ex-GST?

    • got the same email.

      • I was wondering why it was coming up as that on their website.

You can buy it on eBay in Aus for cheaper than that.

        • Replied their email showing the pre-order price, rep said due to shipping they can't honour the price, but if I pick it up from their HK warehouse will be AUD409. Brb booking my HK flight ticket.

  • +1

you can get it cheaper with geekbuy

  • +1

Yeah I got the same email :(

I cancelled and bought it off zapals.com approx $460 AUD shipped after 9.6% off with cashrewards.

    • Just wondering if you used a coupon to get it at that price ?

  • Got it for $440.38 after 3% cash back from cash rewards and using coupon KXLATSVV

    • The code takes off a whopping USD3!! But props for sharing

      • Should take off more than that.

        • Current "sale" price is USD 279.99. Code apparently makes price $276.99.
Gotta be careful with Gearbest as their codes are often xx% off ORIGINAL PRICE, which sometimes works out to be even more than the current "sale price"

        • @azz:
          How.much is shipping from gearbest?
My order from zapals is still "processing"

        • @Ngr73:
Think it was USD60? Worked out to be ~AUD440 as sshazam said.
My order is still processing as well though so I think it's probably the same all round.
