Price match offers are not deals unfortunately. Please read the Wiki.

Also note Officeworks will not price match this. Target is selling a locked, Optus-branded device. The Officeworks SKU is the unlocked variant.

Your welcome to go to target and not save $12.95

Not the right SKU. Officeworks phone is unlocked, Target one is locked. You can try your luck, but any eagle-eyed employee can tell the difference.

I guess I just got lucky then :)

Being lucky for you, isn't really a deal for Ozbargain.

Just remove officeworks from the title and just maybe mention in the description you got lucky with the price match.

A PRICE MATCH IS NOT A DEAL

The price at target is a good deal, with most others selling at $318(JBHiFi)/$317(Officeworks) RRP:$348

    • Not the same products. This one is locked to Optus.

  • Same price $259 at Optus directly also. Maybe still $249 at Kmart. Good value phone.

  • A friend of mine has one l. I guess this phone is okay. 720p on 5.5 feels cheap. NFC would have been a huge drawcard… Of course if it had NFC and a 1080p screen it would be $399 I suppose.

    • yeah this. $259 for 720p is very hokey these days as is an older MTK A53 cpu.

$249 at Kmart locked to Optus.

  • Unlock codes are available for the Optus version from eBay for ~$12

I bought one at JB-HIFI for $309, asking the vendor to "convince" me not to buy the Optus one at Kmart for $249. I am taking this phone overseas so I needed it as unlocked as possible as well as no bloatware, besides I remembered reading something in previous F1s deals about Optus actually blocking some GSM signals. So I decided to pay ~40 more for peace of mind

EDIT: obviously I did not think about price-matching it with Officeworks as they are not the same product

    • Wait, you're negging for paying $50 more for the same phone but unlocked?

      Wtf?

      • Same phone + bloatware + simlock + not-price-matchable. This price-matching was a lucky move, not a deal.

EDIT: @twister292 has just explained exactly what I meant

        • -2

You realise you can unlock it, and change the software for less than $50?

        • @Spackbace: of course, but then how would you fix the network crippling done by Optus?
Note: I did not neg it because it would be ~40 bucks cheaper then my purchase. I negged it because, for starters, price-matching does not apply here AND the $249 price from Kmart / Target was posted before: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/272954

  • Be aware that Optus have crippled support for 850MHz, so even after unlocking, it's not going to work too well on Telstra/Voda.

    • Yeah, this is the issue. You can enable 850 by going into Engineering mode but it doesn't stick and is a major PITA as it just turns off for no reason.

Anyone know of a permanent solution?

      • Just out of curiosity, how often does it turn itself off or does it turn itself off almost instantly?

    • Optus and Telstra use 700mhz for 4G, band 28, Voda uses 850mhz …… so it might seem crippled because they don't use it.
Hence all the flack for Chinese phones with no band 28 ….. only get to use 1/2 the network capability of Optus and Telstra networks.

Get a moto G4 if you are strapped for cash …..better still the G4 plus …… supports band 28.

      • Agree Re the G4 Plus

Optus seem to have intentionally done the crippling to discourage buying the phone from them and using on other networks (they're probably aware that unlocking most Chinese brands is not difficult or costly)

  • Kmart were doing these for $249 not so long ago, they may still be.

And its been at this price for months with Optus directly which also comes with a free selfie stick which is decent quality also.

Good phone but not the greatest of deals this one mate.

  • Picked up two f1s for $250 each via lucky Officeworks price match :)
