which "highly regarded" restaurant in Melbourne is using one of these, may I ask? (out of interest)

    • +2

Yeah you could read that comment two ways. Either restaurants are using the Logik or restaurants are using sous vide in general.

    • I have sent emails to 4 restaurants that are currently using this model. If they give me permission to reveal their names, I will do so.

cheers mate. not sure why everyone having a go at you.

  • I'm not sure I trust this unit. Looking at the specs something doesn't feel right.
I wonder how much drift this has during cooking and it's tolerance.

The 1500W heating element is bigger than ive seen on any which makes me sceptical that it can be that great.

Despite the "cheap" price there are several others out there that have reviews and a track record. They don't cost much more either.

At the end of the day these are meant to be precision equipment, not sure this meets that criteria. The marketing of it would have you think it's not.

    • +2

1500W is what you'd expect in an immersion heater made to boil cold water, not maintain a warm bath. Something is very wrong.

I just use a crock-pot with a $15 ebay temperature controller and a little DIY. No fan, but convection seems to work fine.

      • Exactly,
        That's what I was thinking.
Besides the initial heat up, all the immersion circulator has to do is maintain a relatively low temperature.

Well done with your DIY hack.

      • +2

Computer fan, rare earth magnets and laboratory stir-bar and you have your circulation for ~$10

        • +2

          rare earth magnets

          …from a dead hard drive.

    • +2

I'm not sure why the maximum power draw makes you sceptical.

    • +2

I dont think 1500w is too high. Its designed to heat and maintain temp on 25-30 Litres of water. while cold meat/food is being inserted.
Also, as surface area increases, the rate at which the water temperature decreases also increases. Combine with constant water surface movement and this increases more so.
So 1500w sounds about right to heat up and maintain up to 30L of water for several hours.
Im using a smart ikettle at home and it only boils 2 litres of water for a few seconds. Its rated at 1850-2300w.

Im going to assume you are basing the comparison with the Anova model (800-900w), however i just did a quick google search and found 4 similar "drop in" sous vide machines that have 1100-1500w of power. all of which are higher than the Anova models. F.E.D - 1500w, Sansair 1100w, Lennox 1300w.

If you want true restaurant quality meals

    … just add butter!

  • No need for an app or phone to use.

I don't know of any that "need" an app to use; but having a large touch screen to set time and temperature, rather than whatever cheapo controls are on the front of the unit, is a big plus in my book.

  • OP why aren't you tending to the concerns in your post? Do you want to actually close the deal and make some sales or you're just doing free advertising for Logik?

No mention of warranty/guarantee, no proper manufacturer's specifications for a product that is (supposedly newly?) developed.

Also what's with the photo of the dude with the (mod: removed) pose and the words "How much?" with a bunch of "$99"?

    • Im doing a summer term at uni, so after i posted this i went to meet my group for an assignment. I finished late so went home and slept.
Im here now. so ask as many questions as you need.

My post on Ozbargain states 12 month warranty, I also have a warranty page on the website that states 12 months for all products sold. It will be added to the product listing when i have the rest of the data ready to put in.

I have plenty of marketing/advertising material as well as detailed product specs. I just havent had the chance to make it all presentable and insert it into the website.
Im in my final year of engineering and inundated with work from my summer term and research projects. At the same time as trying to hold down a job, run my website and still spend time with my family/gf.

The dude in the (mod: removed( pose is saltbae. This was just an image from a facebook marketing carousel. worked quite well for people who know who saltbae is.

      • Then I guess only the people who recognise "saltbae" would buy this.

Can we add TARGETED to this post please?

Pretty blatant ripoff of the Anova going by the appearance. No prizes for being a cheap copycat when someone else has done the hard work of development.

Anova's marketing and advertising will make you think they developed the technology. However it has been around for many years before them. There are plenty of drop-in style sous vide machines. Some of which were available well before Anova.
Anova have just done a great job with marketing and advertising.

      • +1

They may not have developed the technology (I don't know). I know there are other brands, none of which have so shamelessly and lazily copied another's design.

      • +2

The tech wasn't invented by anova. Immersion circulators existed in laboratories long before they hit the culinary world. The first chefs that started experimenting with sous vide in commercial kitchens brought in lab equipment from lab suppliers. In fact the guy behind Anova was in the laboratory equipment space before he started Anova Culinary.

With products like the sansaire, nomiku, polyscience, chefsteps joule, design teams seem to have come up with their designs from scratch, decided how their interfaces would work, sorted out bluetooth/wifi connectivity, developed apps etc.

I think what wfdTamar was saying is that products like this one as well as the InstantPot, Nutrichef, Gourmia, Melissa SV8001 etc rip off the design language of established products the anova and to a lesser extent the nomiku and ride on its coat tails. They're not really copying new technology that someone created, just not really putting too much thought into design. Take an existing product, rip off the design of the case and controls and interface then adapt them enough to fit the cheap parts you already manufacture or can buy off the shelf.

This particular product can be found on the web (particularly the Chinese web) under various names - Aobosi SV-8001 (http://en.huarenstore.com/aobosi-sv-8001.html) aka Golden King GK-SV-8001 (http://goldenkingcn-com.sell.everychina.com/p-105279526-mult…) etc

Temperature range is from 0-95 degrees C.

Something tells me this would struggle holding 0°C for very long

  • +1

Finally someone has made the chinese Anova knockoff that no one asked for.

    • 80+ sales in under 2 weeks indicates otherwise.

      • +2

0 vote on this post indicates otherwise.

  • Bit sad that someone studying engineering can't find better use of the skills than trying to out-Kogan Kogan. One step up from working at Maccas I suppose.

    • +2

Im not a qualified engineer yet, so my options are limited. I already have a part time job in my field (uni-work placement). Until I find full time employment, I will continue to offer great quality products at affordable prices.
Minus the advertising and marketing surcharge. (thank you OzBargain)
Everything I sell comes with warranties that are the same or equal to products that are more expensive.

Even if it is "one step up from maccas" it has paid my hecs debt off and covers my mortgage repayments. So im happy with that until i graduate and find a full time job in my industry.

What's so bad about working at maccas? Your comment would indicate you look down at people who work at maccas. I would work at maccas if it helps pay the bills.

  • Some the comments here are ridiculous. It's like watching anti-Trump demonstrators in action.
