This doesn't require an app or account to work
they'll work out a way. they're pricks. Fancy selling products with an app to control it via Bluetooth & WiFi and then intentionally disabling the app for these devices saying you have to upgrade your working device because we reckon it's too old.
Which device?
@eug: their bluetooth & wifi sous vide devices
You use their app for recipes & settings, you can set time & temp manually on the device. But it's like Sony saying you're TV is too old, we're going to make the remote stop working but you can still use the buttons on the TV to change channel and the sound. Absolute BS, their answer is buy a new device with a subscription. The worse part is they're claiming it's because of network/storage costs. Mine is Bluetooth there's no network or storage costs.
@M00Cow: They've changed their minds on that.
Absolute BS, their answer is buy a new device with a subscription.
Existing customers (when the change was announced) did not have to pay a subscription to use the app. They got grandfathered in.
@eug: Phew, I know there was backlash when it was originally announced but the Anova I have won't die (Really, its just a heater, a fan and a sensor). Good to know the network capability lives on and I can put my pitchfork down.
@eug: Realistically this news comes way too late after they hurt their reputation. I think this would be around 6 months after they announced retiring the OG anovas.
@eug: but you cant use the app.for old device after 28 Sept 2025.

@ATangk: They haven't sent a follow-up email advising of that. How am I supposed to know? The original advice was by email..The follow up was a blog post, about 6mth later. Obviously hoping owners would just upgrade, but the marketing.dept can look like heroes.
@eug: I got this in an email
https://www.reddit.com/r/sousvide/comments/1e6su45/anova_dis…
no follow up emails announcing a change of mind.
@eug: They sent the original "we're shutting you out on 28 Sept 2025" no follow up email. Shitty company, puts out blog post 6ths after people kicked up a stink & moved on or upgraded.
I stand by my original assessment if them.
So…..don't buy this ?
i'm in the market for a vacuum sealer. It isn't a smart device so they can't take any features away, so it'll be fine.
Inkbird. All you need.
Inkbird don't make chamber sealers. If you don't need a chamber sealer specifically (soups, liquids, wet foods, infusions, etc), edge vacuum sealers are a lot cheaper.
Just note that the bag sizing for this is quite unconventional / proprietary. I initially thought I wouldnt mind it, but after months of use, there are times it's frustrating
Tempting, but I'm after a non-operational vacuum sealer
Seriously though, seems like a good price. I can't see why you couldn't use non proprietary bags. About the only competition I can see at that price point with a quick search is Vevor, and it looks pretty commercial.
they suck alright!
wait until I try and put a subscription on it.
