VAYA 12-Month Summer Plans: Unlimited S 1GB/Month $120, M 2GB $180, L 3GB $204, XL 8GB $396

260
SUMMER

Unlimited S: $120 ($10/m)
Unlimited M: $180 ($15/m)
Unlimited L: $204 ($17/m)
Unlimited XL: $396 ($33/m)

You also get $5 off if you share the deal on Facebook during the payment process.

I spoke to Live Chat, and the only way for existing customer to get onto this is port out to prepaid temporarily, and then port back in.
Anyone have any prepaid suggestions I can do this ?

Please DM me if you would like to use my number as referral code.

I am thinking of porting out to this Optus prepaid Special quickly and then go back into Vaya

$23.01 ;-) I'm currently on the Vaya $22 per month plan (2GB), so $23 for the Kogan 8GB looks like a great deal (albeit a 12-month commitment). I like the fact if you use your data up in the month, Kogan won't charge you an extra $10 for another 1GB (the data just stops). My only concern is Kogan uses the Vodaphone network, whilst Vaya uses Optus.

Anyone have experience with Vodaphone coverage, stability and speed?

        • +1

When I was with Kogan last year, their network coverage was fine. Also their app is really good and your data usage is updated within minutes, unlike Vaya which requires hours

        • I got a couple of the Kogan Sims whenever they were $5 ($4.90 or whatever it really was) for any plan, and had no problems. If you live in a major city or regional centre, I expect you would be fine. Speed and coverage didn't seem noticeably different from Optus network, but YMMV.

        • I got much faster speed with Kogan on my Xiaomi Mi 5 than Telechoice. First two results are Telechoice, next two are Vodafone:

Also Telechoice's porting took me at least 3 conversations with live chat. Coverage wise, I can confirm that Optus and Telstra had data reception in Halls Gap whilst Vodafone did not

@chipmunkdude: By far the best usage monitoring that I have experienced

        • @therog1: Kogan sims are free now, so even better :)

I know everyone loves to shit on Vaya but I've been with them for years and they have always been great for me. Id love to pay up front and get these deals but not offering them to existing customers is a bit rude.

everyone loves to shit on Vaya

Probably because they shit on everyone…

      • and everyone love shit…

They are awful with existing customers.

I called to find out how my 150mb excess was costing me $65. Initially the rep wasn't even sure themselves and needed to do 10 mins of digging.

Found out I'm on one of their older $17 (now $26) plans with the $10 'Plan Freeze Fee' which provides 2gb data.

The superseded plans excess data fees arent mentioned anywhere that I could see. All the excess notifications I get point to $10 for 1gb. I even asked the customer rep to point out where the older plan excess fees are and they couldn't. They were supposed to move me onto the newer equivalent plan and haven't yet after 2 phone calls. If you are charging a Plan Freeze Fee with negative benefits to the customer, at least maintain the correct terms and conditions somewhere.

2 weeks on - Still on the old plan, still with $65 owing (on top of the monthly fee).

Can anyone recommend a similarly priced provider? Around $30 for 3-5gb?

      • Optus prepaid?

        Kogan?

      • +2

I switched from Vaya to ALDImobile and I have no complaints at all. Decent plans, good customer service, uses the Telstra network, and best of all - it is prepaid. So it's got none of those shitty fees that Vaya would randomly add. Theres a $35 XL value pack (30 days expiry) that seems to fit your needs, but it is probably more expensive than other options

Telechoice Christmas PP 24 Month Offer $29 PM
        Unlimited talk, SMS & MMS
        5.5GB Data
        (3GB + 500MB bonus data + 2 GB Christmas bonus data)

I'm with Telechoice (Telstra 4G) and soooooo happy after years of grief with Live Connected/Vaya/Optus.

        • Thanks will look into those suggestions.

I'm with tpg for nbn and phone so might look into their mobile plans too.

  • Any referral codes for vaya?
I'm getting sick of having to jump carriers each month

    • You can use mine :P

  • I pay $36 a month with Optus for unlimited calls/sms/10GB (per KB) so… I really do need the data sadly!

    • Good data caps are a safety net as the top up is $10gb …..How do you get my $40 Optus deal for $36 ?????

      • Student 10% off would be my guess

      • When you do enough Uber trips (driving) you are eligible for 10% off Optus plans

  • Yes the problem with churn is once you customers get used to it, they stop paying lazy tax …. I was with Telstra for years, then Optus, now im used to porting it's harder for them to keep me ….. They should have just looked after me and said " hey we have better deal than what you are on based on you usage patterns, would you like to change" ……

  • How much does it cost to have the SIM card sent ?

  • Any idea if I can order and pay now but activate next month? I want to port my number after my current month is over

    • Hi edrift,

You sure can. If you are porting your number across, you will be able to purchase the plan on promo now and activate at a later date. If you are getting a new number, then you will be auto-activated after 7 days.

      Cheers, Ian

  • If someone can explain the porting process so i can change 2 of my accounts that would be great!

I assume it's just switching companies back and forth but a little detail would be appreciated!

    • I have updated the post, and I am going to do this.

      • Would love to know the step by step process.

Who's the closest you can match if you want a Telstra network? Woolies mobile, telechoice?

    • +1

The Telechoice Christmas deal is pretty good.

    • +1

      Aldi use Telstra too.

      Hi everyone,
I will NOT recommend telechoice to any ozbargainers just for their horrendous customer service. It's sxxt seriously.
Took an hour to respond my live chat,no prompts or anything advising me to wait or updating the status.
Rep was totally rude and got me so furious.
They expect customers to check their T&Cs regularly if there's ever a new plan or change to their existing plans, such as price reduction or data allowance increase. You need to be mindful of your rates, they don't send out any communication or whatsoever. This is what the Rep just told me.
You logged into your member zone, you saw nothing but a blank page. Tried different browsers still the same. Reported this during the chat, every Rep just seemed to ignore. Seriously Telechoice?

      • +1

Yeah, they don't tell you if your plan price is reduced or more data. Have to find out by yourself and ask them to change it…

        • Vaya do the same…and slap on plan freeze fees even though the new plans are better

  • Hmmmm impressed but not amused…..

I signed up for 11.50 per month 12 months prepaid last night as that offer was going to last until 11:59pm yesterday, and now they've dropped it even further! Heres to $18 flushed down the telecommunications dunny :(

    • Wow, so this was cheaper than before ?

      • Yup… $138 instead of $120

Either price represents amazing value for money as long as you don't need to use customer service or have issues..

      • +1

They're getting desperate with their cash grabs.

  • +1

Dam you VAYA!!! Kogan or Vaya!? grrrrrr

    • Neither.

Telechoice, Jeenee, Boost. Heck, even Telstra and optus prepaids aren't too bad these days especially if you don't mind hopping between the two and you have a phone that will handle both frequencies.

  • What to go with between Kogan (Vodafone 4G) vs Vaya (Optus 4G)? Both have specials for the annual small plans $10/month. I'm nervous about signing with Kogan and Vodafone network (though I've read it has improved).

    • +3

Like wise!!….. thats the worry I have about Koganmobile
altho they did say I can get out upto 8mths after I sign up… just pay what I use!

I do like Koganmobile because they STOP the data once you reach you limit…. unlike vaya.. they will start the $10 excess data

      • Thanks for pointing out the excess data charge, makes me think twice considering I'm buying for a couple of my kids. I'll probably go with Kogan because of this.

    • In my experience the Kogan data was a lot faster than what I'm currently getting with Optus. Can't comment on the phone coverage as only used the 12GB Kogan promotion sims (for ~$5 if I remember correctly) for data (in my mifi modem).

  • +1

hidden costs are: $20 applied whenever you change sim card. $20 bond. If you are over your limit, no notification, no cut off, they charge you $10 for the first 1GB. If you fail the first try of paying your bill, no second chance given, they charge you $10 "dishonor fee" straight away. Vaya is cheap and mean. I have ported out from Vaya. Never looked back.

    • hi, can you link to the Vaya website where it states this?

    • +2

      Hi yfu1999,

Thanks for the feedback and sorry to hear you had a bad experience with us. Just wanted to clarify a few of those fees as we have made quite a few changes over the past year to improve the customer experience. The $20 bond is no longer charged, if you are still waiting to get this refunded, please DM me with your mobile number and/or account number and I will look into getting this refunded for you. We do send 50%, 85% and 100% notifications on usage and you can toggle your data on and off as you please in My Account. If you went over your data and believe you weren't notified at 50%, 85% and 100% then please contact us https://www.vaya.net.au/?option=Contact%20Us to resolve this.

      Cheers, Ian

I've been with Vaya since august 2016 paid ~$135 for 12months unlimited talk, text + 1gb data per month.

suits my needs perfectly. haven't gone over on data (not sure what happens if I do go over). use data for ebay, email, ozbargain, etc (no online games or video/streaming). no problem with coverage- except in very rural places - which is to be expected of any optus subsiduary - other perfect coverage in and around Bris, Melb and Darwin

    • I have got over data a few times. I have been charged for add $10.

      • Was the prepaid or month by month?

        • Hi altomic, all our plans are postpaid, meaning you won't get cut off if you go over your included data or calls. We notify you of your usage at 50%, 85% and 100% via SMS and Email so you can stay on top of things. You can also disable these services within My Account anytime you please. Whilst our 12 month plans are still postpaid, you pay up front, so for example, if you purchase our Unlimited S 12 month plan, you would pay $120 upfront if you used the current promotion.

  • if you port out from vaya do they refund the unused portion of the month?

    • Hi Ryder, if you port out mid-month, we don't refund the unused portion. However, if you activate a new service mid-month, you get full inclusions and we prorate the cost, so your 2nd bill will be prorated based on when you activated your service. E.g. if you activated mid-month, you would pay half the plan cost in the next month.

  • Does anyone else using Vaya have problems opening MMS messages - or is it just me?
