  • Thanks for this, was hoping to book a bargain price for Sydney but its pretty expensive in the city

Don't want to hijack thread but you seem to know your hotel deals…so any tips on how to pick up a bargain hotel in Sydney for Sept?

    • I'm not expert but I did use wotif mystery hotel for Sydney CBD last October. Paid $1500 for the one in Hyde Park 2 double beds, 4 nights. I got the Pullman, not the best but it was very good.

    • +1

Accor sales are usually predictable as they have them around the same time each year. There is usually a mid june sale which would cover your dates for sept so i would wait until then to book.

      • And usually they give you a discount for part of the stay, i.e. one night gets 50% off, one night normal. Source: relative worked for accor marketing.

        • Hmm interesting fact…

So by that pattern, if you're booking more than 2 nights, it's best to book an odd number - 3,5,7 etc?

        • @montorola: It's likely that it may calc the discount differently then.

      • I'm waiting for the Free Breakfast + 30% off sale for April-June stay. The one in last October was really good and saved me quite a bit. Do you have any idea when that will happen again? :)

        • +1

I haven't heard of accor having that sale for that time of year. But i couldn't be wrong. Last year they had January sale followed by a bonus points promo. So i think the next offer might be bonus points (8,000 or 10,000).

        • Any thoughts on when the next supersale covering July would be?

        • +1

@Gaz1: the mid june sale usually covers stays in july.

  • I'm a bit unsure about how this gets applied. I created an account, which has signed me up for the le club membership. I then found a booking I wanted via their search within the period, but there doesn't appear to be any mention of a discount on it. It's not a bad price, but I feel like if it were discounted they'd want to tell me that it was. What am I missing? Is it only for certain hotels?

    • It is for participating hotels listed on the link. Also there may be some black out periods depending on the hotels occupancy. It should say "Australia Private Sale 40% off" if it is included in this offer.

      • +1

I click the link provided and I see a list of countries to choose from, no hotels. I pick "Australia" which then populates the search box. Select the dates etc then search. I get a list of hotels and out of the list in Melbourne, I see maybe 3-4 hotels with their original prices with a line through them and ~$20 less price per night. This is much less than the 40% (I know it says "up to 40%" though) I was kinda expecting. This also happens if I select different dates throughout the period.

Does Melbourne just not have many participating hotels? How would I tell a participating one? I feel a bit silly having to ask all this, but I just can't seem to work it out.

EDIT: I just realised you answered one of my questions about how would I tell, thanks.

        • Same problem here for Melbourne CBD…

        • +1

The 40% is off the best unrestricted rate which is generally the more expensive flexible rates.

Le club members get between 4 and 8% back in points depending on their status as well as free wifi and welcome drink so well worth joining.

      • What sort of welcome drink?

        • +4

          Here's your drink (╯°□°)╯︵ [iii]D

        • +3

Usually a voucher for tap beer, house wine or soft drink in australia. I always book for two adults even if only one adult is staying as it increases the chances of getting two drink vouchers. I would get two vouchers about 50% of the time. Last week i booked two rooms at Pullman Melbourne on the park and got 4 vouchers.

        • +1

@shiningstars: drinks tend to be better at pullmans and Sofitel for higher status, gold and platinum for instance gets cocktails complimentary but it does vary from hotel to hotel.

        • We've always got two welcome drinks. Usually a selection of beer, house wine or soft drink.
At the Pullman in Ho Chi Minh they said we could have any drink we like! Naturally we chose the most expensive drink (Nitrogen cooled cocktails worth about A$25 each!). Not bad when the room was just over A$100 include free breakfasts. Great hotel.

      • I have never gotten a welcome drink , didnt know about it , this is on the unpaid membership right ?

  • Tried NYC and Vancouver, none of which showed any discount.

    • or the gold coast.. eh?

  • I don't see the terms and conditions. Want to see a list of the participating hotels.

    • On the bottom of the link

  • checked some rates in Hong Kong and for some hotels rates are cheaper on bookings.com even after this sale. i have the free membership

    • Accor have a best rate guarantee where if you find a cheaper rate within 24 hours of booking they will offer you this rate with an additional 10% discount.
      More info here
      http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/support/reservations/you-want-…

    • Yep. Same here. Looking for the Gold Coast in March. The Orbitz 15% off deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/285805) with 28 Degrees card still appears to be cheaper.

      Example:
Sofitel Broadbeach through Accor site advises "AUSTRALIA PRIVATE SALE! ENJOY 40% OFF YOUR STAY." with price of AU$504 for Superior Room for two nights in March.
      Through Orbitz: US$364.76 (inc discount) = AU$498.88 (https://www.mastercard.us/en-us/consumers/get-support/conver…)

      • The Accor best rate guarantee doesn't normally apply to hotel booking sites like Expedia, Orbitz, booking.com etc.

      • +1

I would still book with accor.com even if orbitz is $5.88 cheaper because of the free wifi and drink voucher (sometimes 2 drink vouchers) that you get as a le club member. Also the points means that you would get more than over $10 (4%) value in points plus your stay goes towards improving your status if you regularly stay at hotels.

    Awesome !

Going to Thailand for my wedding, was looking for an hotel in Bangkok.

    Thanks !

    • The money you save on accommodation you can spend on ladyboys =p

    • JJ Your messaging is turned off, but let me know if you need any tips. Pecky

  • +3

I feel like these sales are a massive bait and switch. They bait you with "50% off" but in reality the average discount is more like 10%?

    • The main idea to me is to get the hotel you want at the lowest possible price. These sales in my opinion offer the best opportunity to do this with accor and that is why i posted it.
To the newcomer it can appear their advertising is misleading but if know that most hotels offer between 25% and 30% off just for booking early and it is stated that it is off the best unrestricted rate then i don't think it is misleading or possibly no more misleading than the frypans i bought yesterday at 70% off the rrp.

Looked at New York for 4 nights over Easter at the Novotel. Expedia price is $2300. Sale price on Accor is $1795.

    • +1

$1660 with Accor Plus membership (although worth considering the Sofitel for about $300 more - not sure if the location is as good)

    • Nah we went in most exxy week of the year and decided to do Air BnB. About $500 for 4nights. It was great accommodation in exactly where I wanted to stay. It's such a waste of money because we barely spent anytime in the hotel so wouldnt pay that much. We stayed in Chelsea West side and then East Broadway to be closer to Brooklyn Bridge, Financial District and lower arast Village.

Those looking to get accor plus (paid membership), there is 20% off if paying with MasterCard, use this link https://www.accorplus.com/mastercard. It shows as ending 31/12/2016, but I still got the discount a few days ago.

    • Is the Accor plus worth the money? I'm considering taking up but am not sure if if worth the membership fee…

      • +1

I estimate that it takes approximately 4 stays of 2 nights to get my money back and that includes the 10% discount plus dining discount. I would highly recommend it if you have a nice reasonably priced accor restaurant nearby as 50% off two people dining is very nice (you dont need to stay to get the discount). Plus you get your free night which best booked at more expensive hotels in advance. Accorplus members also get access to red hot rooms which is 50% rooms usually during low occupancy times. If you refer an accorplus member the member also gets a wine voucher. Awesome program but only if take advantage of it by staying more than 6 times a year.

        • Thanks Shiningstars =)

Is there a way to preview the special rates before committing to the membership (not this particular sales, as I'm looking for accommodation for Korea in April, which is not included in this sales)

          Thanks in advance!

        • +1

@YLC: the sale rates are the same as the le club member rates but minus the 10%. If it is not included in the sale for le club members then it wont be in the accorplus sale.
For red hot rooms they can be previewed here https://www.accorplus.com/en/australia/offers
          I hope that helps.

        • I've been Accor gold or platinum for about 7 years now
They are the slipperiest hotel chain for sure. If they can slip out of any benefit they will
I've never had an upgrade despite it being a benefit supposedly and you have to fight for everything
          I'd avoid
IHG seem to take their membership more seriously

        • +1

@TheCutter: i have been a gold /platinum member for about the same time. They have definitely improved the consistency of the loyalty benefits especially over the past couple of years. Remember when they were handing out free platinum memberships. Unfortunately that devalued the system and did not reward loyalty. As a platinum i now get upgraded 50% of the time, i always get at least one drink voucher, early late checkouts arent usually a problem unless its peak time and now having executive lounge access at sofitels in australia is for me a big plus. I am more than happy with the benefits i get and with the system changing this year where bonus points do not count towards status i feel they are ensuring the integrity of this program.

        • +2

I am Platinum member with Accor from Nov 2016. I have been always offered an upgrade in the 4 and 5 star hotels. The call centre is a bit challenging to deal with. They will give you wrong information as I found out for the 4 * points deal. I loved the Melbourne and Brisbane Sofitel club lounge.

I was also upgraded in Pullman Bangkok King Power last week and also gave me access to their executive lounge. I think it was awesome. They gave me 1000 Baht duty free vouchers worth $40. I paid for the standard room for 2 days costing around $220 total.

        • @shiningstars:

          Hello Shiningstars,

Does the extra 10% discount apply to this particular 50% sale for Accord Plus members? or just 10% off the regular rate? Does it also apply to hotels outside of Asia Pacific?

If the answers are yes to all above questions, it's worth to join it I think.

        • +1

          @goerspol:
From what I have seen it applies to all rates (including private sales & super sales).
It only applies to hotels in the Asia Pacific region.
You can see details of the benefits here:
          https://www.accorplus.com/en/australia

I joined via Fiji (PM if you would like the contact) & it was about A$200. If you don't want to do this then the above Mastercard offer is the best I have seen A$308).
At this price its usually worth it for the free night alone (especially if you can use it for a night at a more expensive hotel or in a more expensive location or time of year). The extra 10% discount plus 50% off food (even if you aren't staying there is a great bonus.
I also found that the 10% off actually works out to be about 15 - 20% off the cheapest rate (because it is an additional 10% off the full price).
The 50% off food also makes breakfast at the expensive places much more reasonable (whereas normally you wouldn't have breakfast at the hotel & have to find somewhere else to eat).

As a long time Accor member, I must say they have one of the worst booking websites available. Difficult to log in, hard to search, hard to book. Lots and lots of unnecessary ads in a fancy but slow to scroll layout. Why can't they just have a simple booking page like expedia?? Maybe it's just me…

    • +4

Totally agree. The Accor IT department should be sacked.

      • +1

Maybe they don't even have an IT department that's why it's so horrible lol

    • Seems to be a tendancy with a lot of websites nowadays - lots of fancy graphics but most users really prefer a basic interface with good search functionality over slick "pretty" websites.
I notice the AccorPlus booking site seems to change you back to the old interface (which I much prefer).

  • I've noticed these regular "private sales" are very limited in hotels & the discount is only "up to", hence often a lot less.
The Accor sales that are really worth waiting for are their regular "worldwide super sales". Anyone have an idea when the next one is due?

    • I think the super sales are mid june and mid oct. I like the 40% plus free breakfast which tends to November. I think this sale is the best one for stays for stays march-june and it has much more availability than the private sales which tend to be every other week.

  • Their Pullman hotels in Melbourne aren't reviewed well on Tripadvisor so 40% isn't such a good deal.

    • You are right the Pullman in Melbourne CBD is old and dated. It is an acquisition from another hotel chain. However, the Sofitel Melbourne CBD is awesome since I stayed in both for work.

    • I agree that the pullman albert park has mixed reviews but i love the pullman melbourne on the park. Although its not modern, it has a charm about it and they are having major renovations this year. The staff are great and they look after le club members well. Highly recommended it.

  • It has to be 2 nights to get the discount. Oh well.

  • How do you get Cahrewards with this offer? Do you connect to the store via the cashrewards site and then copy and paste the private sale link and then load the Accor website again to book the hotel? I tried to click the private sale link after connected to Accor's website via cashrewards but there was no sale! :(

    • Sorry my mistake. Cashrewards is not available for le club members. I have changed info.

        Thanks for clarifying!
