Michelin Pilot Sports 3 (205-55r16) $128 Each + $50 off if Buying 4 @ TyreSales.com.au

550

Hi guys,

I was searching for tyres recently and came across this website, which apparently is affiliated with carsales.com.au, so I gave them a try.

So this deal includes free fitment and disposal of tyres, free car wash (if you go through their premium fitment centre, which is still free), $20 uber coupon if it's your first ride with them. So if you buy a set of 4, it will work out to be $462, which is pretty sick for what you're getting. This is specific for this dimension, although all the other sizes for the Michelin Pilot Sport 3 series are on sales. I am guessing it's because Pilot Sport 4 is out. And it includes free shipping. (sorry, mostly free shippings are to metropolitan areas). Also, there is a 12 months free NRMA roadside assistance if you get a punctured tyre.

In terms of service (Cardiff Fitment Centre, Newcastle), they were pretty good. Bought the tyres right before Christmas and they got it fitted for me, plus a free car wash + vacuum. Which honestly am pretty happy and impressed. All that within a window of 3 days.

I do apologise as I do not know when this deal will end.

Enjoy!

I too require new 4 x new tyres. I'll have a look if the have a deal on 215/60/16.

    Update

Shipping is a bit much though $120. I live in the NT. It brings it to local prices. But I do get a FREE Car Clean.

    • +1

sorry mate, I have updated regarding the free shipping. :)

  • Thks I need the 15" profiles it will call to what they can do.

    Think I have 205-65-15

  • -5

    What a bargain.

I wish I could put these on my car instead I have to buy runflat tyres which are MOE certified for my Mercedes which cost a fortune.

WORD OF ADVICE: Runflat tyres can't be tubed or plugged so if they have a nail in it you must replace the tyre.

    • +4

That is not actually correct. You can put non-runflat tyres on your car without problem.

You can also repair some brands of runflats, subject to the location of nail etc of course.

      • I've had a runflat repaired. Did the job but in my case find the tyre didn't hold as much pressure as before. In any case being a soft compound tyre had to replace 8 months later. Went with regular tyres.

    • Lol. Not quite. You're free to use any tyres that fit.

Obviously if you choose to fit non-run flat then you'll need to make other arraignments if you do get a flat. If you're just doing mostly city driving you might get by with a can of sealent, and a mobile phone for bigger holes/gashes.

      • +2

a mobile phone for bigger holes/gashes.

Do you have an adhesive you recommend?

    • That is incorrect. Dealers would tell you that runflats aren't repairable, only because it's difficult to determine if the sidewall has lost its structural integrity due to prolonged stress and heat, so it's safer to just replace a damaged tyre, afterall it's not their money.

But if you are certain that you were only driving at low speed for limited range on the deflated tire, then it can be plugged like normal tubeless tyres, subject to safety guidelines, i.e. not too close to the sidewall.

But the reality is that people are lazy, when the TPMS goes off they just top up with air rather than investigate the slow leak, by the time the mechanics discovers the problem at the next scheduled service, which can be up to 10 thousand kilometers later, they wouldn't able to tell if the runflat can still run flat. So the obvious step is to replace it.

  • No 205 50 R16?
    Had two sets….love em!

  • out of stock

  • Showing up as out of stock :(

  • +2

Back in stock briefly, managed to get a set of 4.

Be aware that though the price includes fitting, it does not include alignment, which is $75 on top of the base cost.

    • +2

Alignments are rarely part of the deal. Wheel balance on the other hand usually is.

    • Ask the shop if the alignment is being done with some kind of advanced laser machine and not some goof with his thumb.
Don't get caught needing 4 new tyres way too early.

  • I defied the tight ass in me and paid $1020 for 4 PS4 tyres. 235 45 r18's. last month at bob jane with amex cashback.

    • +4

Hand over your OzB membership :p

    • All a matter of perspective, if you're car actually needs good tyres (Performance car) and you cheap out, then you're a true Tight arse worthy of OzBargain royalty. If you're buying them 'cuz theyre a bargain', then you're just a bargain hunter :)

  • -4

why would you pay this much for 16" wheels?

    • +11

Youre paying for premium range of tyres. You get better grip in wet and dry, lower road noise (vibration) and most importantly safety. I bought Chinese tyres, never again. At the time i was a poor student and could only afford cheap tyres. Not only do i slip a lot in the rain, but one of my tyre popped after a year of using it, used a spare wheel in the time being for about 3 days, then another popped. it was super inconvenient cause i had to change tyres in the rain at night. Next i had to call insurance company took 3 hours for them to arrive and had to cancel work.
5 years ago i bought michelin tyres still using them today with no issues. But need to replace now.

How much $$ would you spend for safety?
For the extra $$ I would rather pay for premium tyres for a ease of mind.

Hope this changes your view on better tyres.

    • +2

I had the same problem. Bought a car with cheap Chinese tyres, nearly killed me when my car decided to spin out of control in the wet. Fitted ps3's and the difference was incredible. $128 per tire is insanely good.

      • It can be a little more complicated then that. What sort of car were you driving? How were you driving?

What I find with the "Cheap Chinese Tyres" is they often run a hard compound which in the dry is fine and providing you dont drive like a maniac are fine, and will last quite some time. Better then retreads for sure.

A softer tyre will certainly be more grippy on the road but dont expect it to last long. Tyres all have a treadware rating ¬100s being soft and ¬300 being hard but the problem is you cant compare them across brands as manufactures compare them to their own standard so difficult to make anything meaningful out of it, however the number will give you some idea if its a soft or hard compound.

        • -1

VL turbo, leaving a VL group meetup, ereone was cheerin and i spun up the tyres and lost control m8… farkin chinese tires m8.. no gud ey!

        • @Sirocco:

LOL! You're a friggin hoon, and a mega tightarse if you're cheaping out on tyres when a car like that NEEDS good tyres.

My 335 had cheap Chinese tyres from previous owner and that thing got mega-unhinged at even the slightest amount of rain, and even worse when tuned!

        • @BargainKen: it's kinda ironic that seemingly all cheap asian sport tyres are so damn soft and yet so poor in the wet. Given it rains nearly constantly so near to the equator, you'd think it'd be the other way around…

  • +1

I got my last set of almost brand new tyres from my local wreckers.. cost me all up of $60 for bridgestone potenzas and $20 to get them changed over.

i don't know why people pay 500 for tyres lol

    • Thanks for the tip

    • That is a great price.
Only problem is that the tyres may have been in an accident (very likely being from the wreckers) and they may have hit the kerb or may have suffered other damage. Very difficult to see structural damage in tyres.
Also chech the dot date as they could be old even if they look new.

      • Yeah normally I just get tyres from cars that have been retired or been rear ended (minor damage etc) the tyres end up getting scraped and most of the time they are perfectly fine. Heaps better than remoulds or cheap Chinese knock offs..

        • Yes but normally when you get to the wreckers the tyres have already been removed from the car and are sitting all together in the shed so it is difficult to know their past life.

        • @maxi: with flat spots, chunks missing, splits, hardened rubber… but if you can find a good set, it may well be a REAL bargain

  • very good tyres. too late to read this post.

  • Was able to place an order! Try again peeps! It ain't over yet!

  • +6

I have these exact tyres on my car. Great tyre. It's insane that people will put cheap and dangerous Chinese comedy spec ditch finders on their cars when for another $50 a corner you get a tyre that will not only handle safely but will brake brilliantly as well. People don't think twice about spending $200 on a night out but won't splash out the extra $200 for tyres that will last maybe 2 - 3 years and could ultimately be the difference between knocking down a child or having a quality tyre that will stop the car in the shortest distance possible.

  • Checked my car's tyre size - 225/45R18 - priced at $265. No deal :(

    • Cheapest I could find to match my old car turned out to $520/each (Michelin PSS).

    • Minus $25 a corner for a $100 instant cashback discount on invoice at JAX Tyre this month

      • I would rather wait for 4 tyres for the price of 3 deal thanks.

  • +1

I've always been able to find cheaper tyres at Bob Jane every time I compare them to tyresales.

You also have the hassles of not dealing directly with the store that fits it for you.

It suits some people as you won't get ripped off and prices are transparent (may be good for females or people who aren't mechanically minded) but you aren't getting the greatest deal either.

    • Is that you, Donald Trump?

Edit: Just noticed the "or people", still…

      • Would you send your mother, sister or wife to go to the local tyre shop and be confident they will be given good advice and not be ripped off?

        Serious question.

The same applies to the mechanic/dealership.

How many females could even tell you what size tyres they are driving on, let alone choose a good brand?

        • +1

My wife brought in her Mazda 2 to bob jane and she comes home with a set of recommended ADVAN A050 R Spec tyres at $550 a corner.

        • @Sirocco:

          Are you serious? lol

It's only funny to me because it's not my wife.

Are you sure your wife didn't say 'I want the best tyres for grip in the dry, don't care how long it last or about the cost. Oh, I never used my windscreen wipers because I will never drive when it's wet'?.

Were you able to get a refund/exchange/credit? I'd be complaining to Bob Jane head office.

        • @JB1:

Ok, point taken. But its still a generalisation.

        • @spillmill:

Some generalisation is spot on, this is one of them.

    • +1

Depends on the franchisee I guess. My local BJ is a PoS, I drive 20km to Jax where I get good price and good service.

I have complained to the BJ head office a couple of times and decided not to waste any more time with those morons. That's more than 5 years ago, things might have changed, but they have already lost the customer.

      • I'm not saying BJ has the lowest prices, but cheaper than tyresales. Plus most stores will beat the the competitors price by $5 or $10 per tyre.

In terms of service, yeah important that you trust them and each store is different.

  • Is this too wide as a replacement for my Ford Fiesta sport? 195/50/R16 original tires, would love to get 4 as spares…

  • Thanks OP, great price.. worked out well for a good mate, they were just starting to look. At this price, no brainer.
