Xbox 360 Elite + Halo 3 ODST and Forza Motorsport 3 $219 Harvey Norman

761

Was just at Harvey Norman Albury, they had this bundle for $219 today. Wasn't sure if it was a good deal or not (seemed like it).

Sorry forgot to take a pic for other ozbargainers

Not sure about any info (whether it is Jtag-able etc.) but it's the usual elite (120gb HDD) with 2 added games for $219

UPDATE: I went to my local HN Wangaratta today after reading about how good a deal this is. They took a little while but gave me the same price.

    NO WAY! :O

what scared me off was the wifi adapter costing $150 (bit cheaper online I assume) $99 per year for live and controller costing $79

      • +3

you can get live for 50 bucks a year and controllers for $50 as well.
Also wifi adapter - 80 or so.

      • +1

WiFi adaptor on eBay $55 mate

        • So you guys think worth it?

I'm mostly a PC gamer and play most games on a PC (all that I have liked other than crysis are also available for 360).

also 360 exclusives such as mass effect are available on PC so would it be worth it?

In terms of Media extender there is a PC already hooked upto the TV and wifi would be a must considering that an ethernet cable is not going to make it to the living room

        • +1

Look into hooking up a Ethernet cord from a wireless laptop, that way you don't need the wifi adaptor, works on vista anyway. When your done, just unplug and think about what you can spend the money you saved

@infernal_max: be warned, depending on your type of modem/router/way you've set your home LAN up/lack of brains in PC, Networkz & Interwebz technology, this approach may not be as simple as it sounds.

ive set up many, but some are just too hard to do (a.k.a - i didnt like those friends enough to spend proper time on them for free :P)

          • @infernal_max: ok, I did it using a laptop that is located near the Xbox and it works great.

thanks a lot for the advice

      • +1

XboxLive is quite often sold for a considerably reduced cost .. around $40-$60 … its just a matter of keeping an eye out for one of the regular offers mentioned on Ozbargain …
Similarly you can always connect using a wired network for the short-term .. ie. a cable to your router .. you don't have to go the wireless route to use the xbox … it is just an option after all …
the Controllers are regularly seen at reduced prices - from a variety of outlets !
I get your concerns but honestly there are workarounds.

        • thanks for the advice, have been looking around and figur it will be around $50 for a second controller (which isn't really needed yet, any friends can bring their own)

Wifi also $50-ish and it is probably the only thing needed.

Live can also be found for $50 for a 12 month subscription

now to decide if I need it :(

  • +1

saw this too at Harvey Norman fortitude valley, qld

dunno if that was a good deal or not

  • -1

Dang, I got the 249 one from JB. Happy with it though, it's very good for games. And NOTHING ELSE. Get a PS3 if you're interested in any other use of the console.

    • -2

Tried media centre extender? I think it's damn awesome (except a bit fiddly for high def MKVs etc)
      And live sucks, too pricey.

      • What do you use to play HD mkv files on the 360?

        • ps3 media server works for xbox too, combined with CCCP = win :)

    • +2

comments like these starts console arguments

    • +1

      Agreed.
the PS3 is easier to use, much more stylish and is a more complete package

    • +1

wow, what sort of idiot would actually wanna buy a game console to play games?

  • all harvey norman's? or will my local bs store keep bs'ing

    • 2 stores in two different states are confirmed at the moment

  • -1

Well when's the price of a PS3 going down? =(
Everywhere I look it's always over $300. Even for a second hand one.
    The slim, over $400.

    • Only reason why this is so cheap is because there's a new xbox coming out, a refresh called the 360S(lim)

I'm gonna take a bet that Sony will release another refresh of the PS3 soon. Probs a die shrink and a bigger HDD.

    • They won't drop the PS3 slim because it's still their flagship console. And if you wanted a more 'fair' comparison, use the new 360 ($400 RRP)

  • According to Engadget, Sony has just started making a profit on PS3's. So they won't be dropping the price anytime soon. http://uk.gear.ign.com/articles/110/1102504p1.html

  • +1

Cost price of these at hn is around $190.

  • +1

    do you mean http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256968699689/xbox--e… $449

    can't find the $219 price :_0

the 250gb version (the slim, if you will) is infinitely better if buying, runs faster, comes with WiFi 802.11n inbuilt.

as you say, MCE is good when it works, but just like the PS3, it's ridiculously fiddly with filetypes it doesn't want to support. a $200 WD TV is 50x easier.

    • yes it is this version, really I'm not going to argue that the 360S is better, I will simply restate the price and let you decide what is for you. So here goes : $219

  • There are new model ps3's in japan only at the moment, but really the big draw is a 320gb harddrive or a white case

    • they are the same (as the usual slim) only worthy difference is the white case, the HDD is not a big issue with the PS3, pop your own in with a larger capacity (for a small price)

      • -1

        You can't put a 500Gb and 1Tb hdd into a ps3, due to it's 12mm profile instead of the normal 9mm.

        • 500Gb is 9mm…. (and I think 640Gb might be too, but don't quote me on that)

        • i have 500gb in mine (and you can get 640gb)

        • There is also a Western Digital 750gb drive that fits the PS3 now, the WD7500BPVT.

  • theres so many stocks of these in the hn storeroom i think they trying to get rid of them.

  • If you don't have an Xbox yet:

    1/ Shame on you

2/ Get one now, they wont be found this cheap for a few years now (until a new one is announced/released)

    • +1

there is always a cheap xbox to be found

  • This is absolutely stupid. Buying one tomorrow (NUMBER 3 :( )

  • Wow OMG just saw this! Best deal ever. How this didnt make it to the main page when a more expensive deal just weeks ago got like 100+ votes beats me. Good job OP

The only reason why youd get the slim is for the quieter operation and no RRoD (there was a 50% failure rate on launch xbox but that probably completely fixed by now) but IMO not worth an extra $200 out the wallet XD

    • thanks fuzor, I'm sure it'll get front page, people have to see it first though.

Also just a quick mention, I tried asking for a better price (wasn't sure of 360 pricing, all I knew is that $199 for an arcade is pretty common). I also asked for a change of games option, both to no avail.

    • This price is not available in every HN that's why.

Especially HN in Eastern Suburbs - they all have big noses.

  • I was considering the 360 Slim, but this is very tempting.
For PS3/360 points and live subscription, I find www.gamecard.com.au is always a good price, and they email the codes straight to your inbox.

Also, this deal does not seem to be on the website, although the post links to the site. Does this mean the deal is already over?

  • +1

One other thing to remember, the Elite will not be Kinect ready, like the Slim. AFAIK, this means the Elite will need separate power leads for the Kinect equipment, and the console, where as the Slim will use the same lead for both. Although from what I've read so far, Kinect looks to be pretty crap.

  • +2

For those still on the fence, it all boils down to

    1) Are you planning to be an online demon? If yes….
    2) Is your home set-up close to your router?
    3) Are you interested in the Kinect at all?

If it's Yes Yes No, then this deal is perfect. Remember this is a console, not a handheld, you'll be handling it very little and within a week it'll be gathering dust. Looks shouldn't matter too much. If you're not interested in Kinect (like a lot out there) and can easily hook an eternet cable between the router/360, then this is a bargain.

    • -1

      online demon?
is that a jail term for online 'predator'

  • any metro syd. stores with this?

I bet Auburn will have none.

    • id not even bother with auburn even though i practically live on next street, people here are like hordes.

  • Can anyone confirm if these are jtaggable? Anyone know the manufacturing date? I'm only interested in getting an xbox to jtag it.

    • the staff at the store near you

  • +1

WOrth remembering the new slim version cannot have its dvd firmware flashed YET

So if that is important for you, these are like gold….

  • Went to both stores at Alexandria but have no luck. Being laughed at by the guys there.

    Good luck guys

  • Just went to the fortitude valley store in qld and they are $238, they didn't know anything about the $219 price, still got one…

Edit: they had like 14 in a pile at the door

    • HN Albury had about 15-20 as well, Wangaratta has exactly 4 left

  • yeah that's typical of HN

it's available at the Albury store but none of the Syd. metro stores… becoming a waste of time even trying

  • not available in AUBURN, they laughed at me as well…….

  • Not at that price in Townsville.
They had this pack for $287 with a 2010 date on them.

  • +1

I called my closest and they told me it was still $450. I tried the valley like Jusdrifn 86 and they gave me the same price as him ($238). I told him about this deal and they dropped it to $219 for me! They had arcades for $138 too.

    • thanks maxvincent, I just rang the store back and got a helpful guy who is happy to refund me $19 to bring my cost back down to $219.

now to head back down by 5pm :)

  • I am still not able to find this deal anywhere and I have rang a store in VIC and they are doing the console with four games for $298.

    The games are:
    Halo 3
    Crackdown
    Foroza Motorsports
    Dirt 5.

Please share your best deal for Vic, thanks.

    • +1

Dirt 5 ????,get back in your DeLorean Marty McFly, Dirt 3 isn't even out yet is it??

  • Anyone able to post their receipt for the elite package for $219 so I can tell my local store to sell it to me for that price.

    Anyone plz

    • mine is in the main deal.

  • +5
  • Thanks guys!!!

Anyone here buy one that already owns a 360? If so may I ask why?

    • I'm considering a second one for modding and keeping offline.

  • Anyone tried to get this deal in WA?

  • Went to HN QV (Melbourne) today, no luck

    • I know. Just got home now. QV never have anything good :(
I dont think even a receipt would work with these guys. Its annoying how they're the same shop but nothing is uniform pricing. Even with the different catalogue versions there are sometimes differences in pricing

  • Just got it at Domayne Alexandria NSW $219

Called up beforehand to ask if they could do it - "Con" answered the phone and said bring in the ad.

Went there - another sales rep said they couldn't do it coz they had none in stock and it was below cost price

Found Con - Showed him the receipt printout from OP and he did it no problems - he said there was some redemption going on atm with the xbox's that the other salesman didnt know about and thats why he thought they couldnt do it at that price.

So if your Harvey Norman won't do it - ask them to look into some xbox redemption

    Receipt - http://i.imgur.com/S817f.jpg

    • bullcrap! I was there in the morning and I couldn't get it!!!

      • How is bullcrap when he has posted the receipt?

        • the 'bullcrap' i beleive was referring to the frustration of not being able to get the same deal on the same day

      • bullcrap refers to the guy in Domayne this morning.

        Nicely done JTL

  • HN Chatswood Chase didn't want to know. Their price would have been $399. :(

    • I bought mine from the Chatswood chase shop but it was a couple of weeks ago for the 248 price.
The guy was extremely helpful and as soon as I mentioned the deal at JB he said "we can do that".
are you sure you asked for the 360 and not the new one :)? 399 seems like the new console.

      K.

I was on a xbox hunt today, went to 3x HN in Melbourne area to search for the elusive $219 elite

    HN
    Preston
    - 269 120gb Elite with ODST, Forza 3 and charger for controller
    - 199 for arcade

    Broadmeadows
    - No chance, their prices start from 349

    Highpoint
    - 247 120gb choice between ODST/Forza and Batman/Pure
    - 187 Arcade

In the end i bought from Highpoint, the service is soooo bad i didnt even have a chance to neg, didnt know receipts were posted online, if not would have harrassed them to save a further 30 bucks.

  • Does this come with one or two controllers? I have found a deal at HN for $248 with two controllers?

    • then it's a real bargain. at what HN?

    • Wow, really….it might be the Final Fantasy or Splinter Cell budle.
If it is, then $248 is definitely a sweet deal.

Which HN btw??? It's so hard to find any real bargain at HN Sydney.

  • Just spoke to Ian @ Kawana… will do and has stock :} GOT IT:}
    Cheers to da op..
and Noosa wont price match… EVER!

  • Nothing at HN Frankston. You can buy the X360 Arcade with no games for $299.95 though. :P

I tell myself I will never go back there everytime they disappoint me (which is every visit), yet I am so stupid for trying them over and over.

    • The store I went to had a price tag of $350. It wasn't until I talked to the sales guy that he was able to 'price match' the other HN stores.

  • Thanks!

Just bought one from Chadstone HN. $220 xbox elite with 2 games pack!

    Good deal.

edit: you have to get it from electrical department, the computer department have no clue at all and they keep telling me no stock!
weird that i was talking to someone from HN on the phone b4 i drop by and no1 had a clue from computer dep, so i walk up to electrical department (TV) and done! got the deal.

They have about 10 more units that i can see on the floor.

  • Just got one at HN Everton Park. They have about 25 units left, all in the back store room.

I should probably mention that they weren't advertising the price and didn't know about the deal, but were happy to price match the other Harvey Norman stores.

  • In the Fortitude Valley one in Brisbane they have elites at $238 and… arcades at $138 !

  • Not quite as good a deal, but yesterday (in search of the ODST/Forza deal) I picked up an Elite with 2 games (Batman Lego and Pure) for $198 from Harvey Norman at QV in the Melbourne CBD. They had that price advertised on their showroom floor.

Also, not that I usually purchase extended warranties, but they had 2yrs extra warranty on sale for $39 (to take it to a total of 3 yrs warranty). Anyway, it's just another option for those looking for a cheap console if you don't care so much about the bundled games.

  • managed to grab this awesome deal from HN Preston today!

They weren't aware of the deal, but i uploaded the receipt (from this page) to my iPhone, and showed that to the salesgirl.

After a quick check with someone else, she said she was happy to pricematch (their own chain.. but i wasn't going to be smart about it!)

So big ups to chansthename for highlighting the deal and maxvincent for uploading the receipt i used!

    • Hi filbo

Can you please tell me the manufacture date of your console?

      Thanks!

      • they are all 2010, mine is 27th March

        • Well, not necessarily. I figured the Preston store which NEVER has ANY of the HN deals posted here EVER may have some old Elites left.

So I hope filbo can help answer my question.

      • Sure, its 24-03-2010

I will say again, the main reason they were happy to match another HN store's price was because i showed the image of the receipt. ;-) a handy tip for anyone wanting to grab this!

        • Thanks filbo. Not really what I'm looking for but the great price has me tempted.

    • no problem buudy, that's what ozbargain is for

  • -2

This is no longer the best price currently available.

    This one is:

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/28757

Anyone tried using this in combination with the $50 HN voucher? That would bring the price down to $148!!!!!! I already have 2 xboxes so no point getting a third.

    • +1

Dont you think its a bit harsh for a neg? Because you would also need to neg the $250 deal that was posted in June. It was a good price when the OP got it. Two month down the track it could even be $180, who knows.

      • -2

No offense to the OP and this deal is good - but there is a better deal currently on at the moment. That is the key word - current. It is to let people know that the price $219 is no longer the best price. People should be negotiating for $198.

Happy for mods to remove the neg vote if they think it is not valid.

        • well I believe that anyone on ozbargain will be at least looking for better deals, this is almost a week old and the others are on the front page.

It was a great price at the time and I don't believe it deserves the neg.

  • He shoots he scores, not much to discuss here,if you can get one grab it.

  • What is this $50 gift voucher some people are referring to??
