Clive Peeters 30% off Sale and Special Warehouse Sale

As you probably know Clive Peeters is now Gerry's <Evil Laugh> muwahahahah </Evil Laugh>
Went in last week to take advantage of it. Went in last night and sales were still on.
30% off ipods (& Accs), (video) cameras (& accs), computer accessories/software, printers (& inks) etc.
Their prices are generally dearer in general but there are bargains to be had. Espec considering iPods
Spoke to a sales manager/assistant and was also told that HP printers were cost + $1
I was in Mt Gravatt and Aspley and was told that it was all Clive Peeters stores
Don't know when sales end….

Saw the 32gb iPod touch for $399 less 30% = ~$280

Also having a warehouse sale @ Mt Gravatt.. Click on the image for the email I received.

I went to Clive on the weekend.. Most stuff was gone, and only exdisplay items were available.. with a 30% of the original rrp price.. I was after split system airconditoners.. the strange thing was that the 30% discounted price was still more expensive then the advertised price at goodguys which were only 200meters up the road.. and the goodguys items were brand new in box, where clive's items were exdisplay.. ie unboxed head unit.. yet people were still fighing to get one… very strange.. i think they were mesmerised by the "closing down sale" sign… just like in auctions items going for more then if you bought them new from the shop

Indeed they count on people not doing their price checking homework (Is there ever a persian rug store which isn't closing down!) ;-) The sellers still want to make as much money as possible either for themselves, creditors or HN.

    • iPods at 30% is surely nothing to sneeze at

  • Need a new air-conditioner… hope I can get a deal :)

  • Would the Melbourne Warehouse sale be worth attending? I know CP's prices are exorbitant to begin with, but how likely is it that there'll be real bargains to be had? Just trying to work out whether it's worth taking the hour-long drive out to Bayswater. :-)

dont just count on the 1hr drive.. there probably will be a 1hr wait to get inside.. We waited approx 20 mins to get in.. the line was about 100m long.. left empty handed within 10 mins.. bit surprised at people fighting for exdemo items which were more expensive then the advertised prices at goodguys just up the road. strange..

    • Thanks for the feedback, tsandu. Might have to give it some thought then.. I'm not too crazy about standing in a queue for lengthy periods. :-)

  • Just got back from Clive Peeters Auburn and it's been stripped bare! You'd find maybe a handful of items still available for sale. I doubt they were all sold 'coz that store was so packed with stock before…HV probably just took the stock they wanted to sell from their own stores.

  • 'Cost price + $1' is really a con. What is declared as the cost price is not truly the cost price. It is the "invoice price" to the particular store. Usually there are off-invoice discounts, monthly rebates, annual rebates, and manufacturer rebates that the store receives - meaning that there is still a relatively healthy margin of 10%-30% for the store even if they sold it at "invoice price".

    • This is nothing new as has been discussed/mentioned before and I see nothing wrong with it.

It is their recorded cost price. Company still needs to make a profit, so what if it is hidden from the consumer with regards to in-house rebates. As long as customer is happy with (perceived) savings both parties win. Is it less of a saving for the consumer because you know they will be making more than $1 from volume sales?

    • stop being a sooky la la, that is the cost price to the store

    • I think it's just a question of understanding what a "cost price" is. If everyone took it at the same meaning there wouldn't be any problem (for anyone). It can be interpreted differently however. The stores clearly try to take advantage of some with the "+$1" offer (Otherwise there wouldn't be any need, given people like us "in the know" know they are already making profit at "cost" price).

No one is begrudging a profit, it a matter of perception of how a business chooses to represent their offers. If I'm a plumber and charge a customer $800 which they pay (when others in the know pay $400 for the same service) is that fair (because of their lack of knowledge)? Maybe/Maybe not. It's not illegal in any case.

  • I bought the hp photosmart c309g for $149.50 which is 50% of their RRP and a Panasonic LMC FH20 for $169. Most of their 50% off stuff have gone.
