MP3/WMA/WAV/FLAC playback also supported via USB

Playback of the following files is not supported.

    MP3/WMA/FLAC:
    copyright-protected files
    DRM (Digital Rights Management) files
    Multi-channel audio files

    MP3/WMA:
    lossless compression files

Dos not support DAB+ digital radio or play CD.

    • ?
Edit: So it does not play CDs or MP3s?

      • It doesn't have a CD slot. Plays songs via USB or Bluetooth

        • on the site, it says it can play MP3/WMA playback for USB. I dont own this, but tempted to buy this depends on the review/comments.

@Itsondnet: I bought one when it was on sale for $87 as a present. It looks ok. Didn't fix to the car, though. When I was at Jb Hi Fi Moorepark, I played with a show model. I am satisfied. If you can spend little bit more buy a https://www.jbhifi.com.au/gps-car-audio/kenwood/kenwood-kmm-…
its got a 13band equaliser and can connect to 2 devices.

          Or https://www.jbhifi.com.au/gps-car-audio/sony/sony-mexxb100bt…
bit expensive, but reviews are awesome.

@darshu: Thank you for your reply

        • @Itsondnet:

As I said above. This unit also plays FLAC and WAV files along with MP3/WMA. Except if the MP3/WMA/FLAC/WAV media file is copyright-protected, contains DRM (Digital Rights Management) or Multi-channel audio files (eg 3.0, 5.1 etc). Not mentioned on the web page specifications but in the manual.

FLAC is a Free Lossless Audio Codec - smaller compressed sized audio file without any loss in quality.

        • @darshu: Do you mind telling me what the MEXXB100BT was selling for at JB when you posted this comment?

I was amazed to discover on the 1st of Jan that it's ticket price was $198, with a further 30% off, bringing it to a total of $138.60.

The next day, the 30% discount was removed and now today it is priced at $398.

An absolute killer bargain, but quite short-lived!

        • @cheeksahoy:
It was sold for 138. At the same time, SupercheapAuto was selling the same for something $449.00 (can't remember, but it was much higher than the price of JB HiFi). I think without the 30% discount it was around 196 something. I have been looking for a head unit for a very long time.

Yes, that was a killer. Sadly, I don't have a car. I will definitely buy one when I have a car. Reviews are awesome. You even get an app for android or apple phones to control the head unit via Bluetooth.

        • @darshu: Sorry for the senility, I think it was sold for 156 or something when I bought my one.

@darshu: Thanks, mate. I managed to nab a unit and some matching Sony speakers (that were similarly double discounted) only minutes before the sale ended. So glad I decided to google "car stereo in-built amplification" or the like when I did! Sadly, no local pick-up available in my location so now I'm just nervously awaiting the shipping notification.

Good luck with the stereo hunting once you get some wheels!

        • @cheeksahoy:
          Thanks mate.

No CDs and no 8-track either. Welcome to the 3rd millennium.

Its a shame there is no DAB+ though.

  • I bought this at this price on 9 Dec from JB. They have a higher price tagged on this in-store but (upon scanning) it comes up for 76-something. JB made me forgo SCA AMEX voucher (on $100 purchase) as it would bring it down to $80 there, and JB were already cheaper. It's not a bad unit though, all installed and working now….

Guilty of not sharing the deal in ozb thinking it's a discontinued product and this being the normal phaseout price.

  • Hard to get any DAB on head units with reasonable price. Maybe there is a premium for licencing the hardware? don't know
On another note if you own a Chinese import phone like redmi note 3 or UMI power you should test the Bluetooth at the store and make sure it works with the Sony units. My phones would not work properly with Sony MEX units. They pair but streaming music is choppy. Don't know why. I tested all other brands on soundboard and they worked fine
