  • Have Sydney train or buses ever done this?

God no. That would be the worst idea.

We don't want more people coming into the city on New Years Eve.

I'm sick of drunk idiots thinking they have a right to piss in my suburb and throw their junk in my street. This year we'll be hiring extra security around the inner suburbs. I hope they fence off the area around Luna Park too.

To be fair, I (as a dedicated OzBargainer) love NSW rail $2.50 travel. You can go from Bomaderry to Newcastle for $2.50 on a Sunday! That's superb value. You can travel anywhere you like in NSW (non-country) on New Year's Day, and the Sunday after and the Sunday after that!

NSW rail said they cancelled this deal but then they brought it back a few weeks later.

Happy Christmas fellow OzBargainers. Enjoy the holidays and be thoughtful to your friends and families. Stay safe.

  • I was going to hire a private party bus to travel around the city but left it too late and couldn't get a booking.

However, with this deal do you think I could fit roughly 50 people on the bus as well as platters of finger food & drink?

I am a bus driver, and if you get on my bus on NYE with food I am gonna kick you out. Watch out, hell0.

To be fair it's problems stem more from the government and the company rather than the ppl who work for them. Bus drivers I have had have been rather polite and great….. however I've had problems with some leaving too early from the station(the place they start…) or continuing their route without waiting for connections(luckily not often as they used to in my case.)

      • that's a different case, I was asking why people think Adelaide is really bad and all… its better than the place I come from and its less crowded than sydney and melbourne, also more greener compared to perth.

I suspect because it's more quiet and with lockout + hinely st being the only major place being open past 12 midnight, people from interstate(and many locals) get bored if they prefer enjoying the nightlife……

Considering the temp, would suggest going to a less popular firework display at the beach like Brightons. Glenelg and Henley Beach are always packed, music/live bands are always woeful.

Nice place is up towards flinders Uni area look outs, see 5-6 beach displays at once and all the illegal backyards in the South. More of a 1on1 date thing thu

    • where exactly in Flinder Uni area look outs?

  • Note that this is a consolation prize to everyone trying to get to work the week before. Most buses run on public holiday schedules that week, meaning I can't get to work because they don't even start until after 9am.

    Thanks for nothing.

      It's only a 3 day week
      You'll get over it 🎉

Not sure my boss will agree with you.

  • in melbourne all ptv train tram bus is frre on xmas day.

  • It's hard enough to prevent one alcoholic from boarding the bus on a normal day. What luck will they have with 1000s as many drunks and no ticket inspectors?

    • none. thats the point. NYE is an 'anything goes' night in public transport, aside from fights
