  • I paid 800 9 years ago for my Sony 32" TV which I now use as a monitor, this seems like a good deal for the price assuming the picture quality is there.

      • +2

9 years ago it was top of the line with perfect picture quality and still has today. 0 faults with it. Max size TV's were pioneer and Panasonic 55".

Alot has changed in 9 Years…

      • Should have inserted sarc tag

Not bad if you're after a big full HD screen.

    The screen has full 1080p HD with a 1920 x 1080p resolution.
It features a 3 ms response time.
It uses DVI-D, VGA and HDMI connections.
    The monitor includes 2 5 W built-in speakers.
It has a 16:9 aspect ratio.
This monitor uses a 100 x 100 mm VESA mount for wall mounting.
It features IPS-ADS wide-view technology for accurate images and colours.
    This screen measures 31.5".

  • +14

Resolution too low for that size as a computer monitor in my opinion. Still a good price though as a bedroom tv together with Chromecast or as a console monitor.

    • +3

Many of the whirlpool users who have grabbed this one disagree. For CAD work maybe a bit rough, but for browsing its quite OK and for gaming the 3 ms response is amply fast.

    • +7

I'm using it as a monitor now - it's not ideal because you lose so much real estate plus you can see pixels … but then again you do get used to it. For games the situation is a lot better provided you have the GPU horsepower to anti alias at 4x minimum becuase the sheer size does a lot to impress!.

However I'm just buying a new monitor 34" 3880x1440 monitor now for gaming. I was considering a much cheaper 35" 2560x1080 that is highly recommend for gaming and I just couldn't do it because of desktop usage is too compromised.

It's an OK cheap monitor. I find it a bit "glary" in every mode other than "economy" though - can't get the thing calibrated to be really comfortable. Colour reproduction is decent, blacks reprodustion is hopeless.

      • which monitor you looking at getting?

        • Acer Predator X34

        • @Diji1: Wow that seems like a nice monitor, expensive too at $1500.

        • +1

          @venomx2: Yeah it isn't cheap.

      • Man get a 34" Ultrawide, you will be blown away.

        • That's the plan :)

        • @Diji1: nicce, G-Sync and if you got the cash, 144hz 10/10

      • What's this cheaper 35"?

        • +2

          Acer Predator Z35

It uses a panel type that gives close to double the contrast of an IPS plus it's 144Hz native (overclockable to 200). There were a few left at MSY location "Vic Online" for $1,016 dollars but it's just significantly cheaper than the Acer X34 everywhere. Tom's Hardware claims it has the highest image quality of any monitor they've tested but its vertical res is 1080 and it's very curved so I'd look at it first.

    • +3

It's great for people with poor eyesight, which isn't an uncommon ailment. It's like having a naturally magnified image without using any scaling options in the OS.

  • +1

It's a great deal for an IPS monitor …… but 1440 and 4k monitors must be getting close at an affordable price……. guess it's great for people whose output source e.g laptop or older PC and no graphics card is max 1080p.

    • +2

      Lol 1K is affordable ?

  • -4

    oh, my eyes, call 000

  • Thanks

  • The Whirlpool thread on these is pretty positive:

    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2536838

  • +1

When people say it's got low resolution, screen size is accounted for right? I mean I'll be enjoying much bigger screen size for playing non graphic-intensive games, web surfing and movies ie everyday normal usage at FHD?

    • +2

Of course. If it was 24" then the resolution is fine. Once you reach 27"+ (at 1080P) you can start noticing pixels, most notable when web browsing and looking at text.

  • 144hz??

    • +1

      Lol, 60 more like.

  • +1

    Will it have a remote?

    • +3

No. This isn't a TV although it does have speakers that aren't terrible as far as being terrible TV speakers. You could use a free tv box or whatever those things are for dumb tvs.

  • I guess this would be good for the kids' living room PC. Big and nasty so everyone can easily see what's going on

  • -1

It's garbage, buy a monitor from Korea on Ebay if you are on a budget and have any respect whatsoever for your retinas. As for the people who say "it's fine" I guess some people just don't care/notice as much, I have a friend with a 55 inch TV and the backlight doesn't work on the left half of the screen. He didn't notice till i pointed it out. Go figure.

    • Can you link to one please?

      • What's your budget? Requirements? I've bought a couple of QNIX monitors from the seller "gn_australia"

    • +3

I have both this Philips monitor, and a QNIX QX2710 27"monitor (1440p, B-Grade IPS panel, overclocked to 110Hz).

I'm currently using the Philips as a TV - it has speakers, so works great with an android tv box. The colours on mine are also fantastic, it's honestly really nice. No backlight bleed either - wish I could say the same for my QX2710.

IMO it would make an ok monitor if you have the space for it - lack of pixel density is overcome by the really nice display quality.

      For $228 it's a no-brainer IMO.

  • +1

I bought one of these recently (online) and had to take it back (Colonades, South Australia) coz the colours where wrong…certain colours shimmered red.
OW gave my money back without a fuss, very happy. Cant get another one now coz I got bills and life, bumma.
Freakn love the stand on this. It cant tilt, which is a shame, but its a solid chunk of metal that keeps the monitor safe as. I was going to use this as a tv mainly and it looks like one which I liked.
If you fiddle the colours you can get it to look great, check the whirlpool thread.
Had backlight bleed at the edges, but not that annoying really.
Its 6ms response time, not 3. 3 is the Smart Response time, marketing crap. Games from my pc played sweet.
If you can return it easily, its definitely worth a look.
Hope I can get the money again before their all gone, Id take the risk again.

  • I'm getting "Sorry, some of the items in your shopping cart are out of stock. Please remove highlighted items and proceed" when trying to order

    • -3

So am I, I'm trying to pickup from store but it's just not allowing it.

OK, just tried delivery too and it's now saying "Temporarily out of stock"

      • I just bought one right this minute, chances are you're doing something wrong.

        • +1

Just tried again now getting Sorry, some of the items in your shopping cart are out of stock. Please remove highlighted items and proceed.

what could I be doing wrong? I go through all the steps and it rejects it AFTER the paypal is approved.

        • +3

@omniX32: i can't understand the negs for some of those comments… gee

        • +1

@D6C1: ozbargain is like that sometimes…

Would have loved to get one of these - but couldn't - reported it - and got shot down for it.

Someone has since explained that its possible with office works to report out of stock for each state differently.

  • +1

Cheers OP, will make a good bedroom chromecast screen for the missus so I don't have to keep giving one of my 27" up every now and then.

  • How would this compare as a TV screen compared to a regular TV. If I say bundle it with a PVR as the tuner and route everything through my AV receiver with 5.1 speakers with only the monitor out to the screen?

  • Office works Bundoora Vic has this on display along with many other models. If any wants wants to have a look.

  • +2

228 is my tipping point …thanks OP.

  • good deals

  • I'd be looking at a TV if you want it for TV… atleast it'll have a inbuilt tuner and probably better speakers too.

  • Just picked one up from the Auburn store in Sydney. There were 3 left but you'll need to ask the staff to get them from the back.

  • Just ordered, time to replace my 24" Dell, having HDMI is definitely a bonus now I can use Chromecast with it.

  • gamers should put in another 100 and get the 1440p @ 90-120hz monitors on ebay from the koreans. This is a good deal for a TV / big ass monitor for the netflix ppl, not for enthusiast gamers on a budget. Even consoles can output at higher than 1080p now.

  • Is this the same one that went for $70 odd dollars and even refunded but still delivered?

    • +2

Yes it's the same one. Can't forget the hurt when they cancel my order.

  • +2

Just grabbed one from the Morayfield store in the box. They have one left (display model), but it looked in great condition (didn't look like it had been man-handled or anything).

Image quality is excellent, and its nice and bright (but blacks look black). No input lag, or motion blur either (try spending $228 on a 1080p monitor anywhere else and you'll find plenty of ghosting). Thanks OP!

  • would this one be good for a graphic designer? not just the size, but also color accuracy…

  • I Grabbed one this afternoon and I am pretty happy with it!

  • Should I buy this one instead of a Tv?

    • +1

      doesn't have a tuner though?

      • I'm new to Australia, and on budget.
Is it easy (and cheap) to grab an external tuner in Sydney?
When I was in my home country, 90% of the time my TV was used with an Android box.

        • yes, places like the good guys sell setop PVR units cheap and they have built in tuner, provide you have a decent antenna.
Even Ebay sell set top boxes cheap ….. people bought them when we switched from analog to digital.
Android boxes, I have one on my TV but it depends on your internet plan, and USB tuner needs the drivers.

        • I use this as a tv with an android box. Speakers are decent, colours are amazing. For a small room it's A+.

        • @garage sale:
In Australia does people share their internet plan? (Few neighbor families use one internet connection, and share the fee).

        • +1

          @Averell:

Not so much, internet too slow thanks to the libs ;)

  • i got this monitor, i use it for gaming and movies since i dont watch TV.

honestly for the price its great, but if you're gonna sit for 10+ hours at it.. maybe not.. also depends on desk space.

  • It's still in stock for pickup at my nearest OW, as I've just added it to my cart. Don't know why it's saying out of stock, as some stores still have them in stock.

  • "New " item clearanced…BS
    .
I'm off to claim price-check. May not win, but have to try.

    Total crap.

  • Are these the ones that were $78 ?

    • that was a pricing error

  • Damn too slow, shouldn't have slept on it! :(

  • Just been ot Officeworks. Computer showing 5 left in stock at Dee Why (Sydney Northern Beaches) if anybody is still after one.

  • Just nabbed one from Kotara NSW. They said they had 3 left in the back so be quick.

Unfortunately wont be able to fire it up until after work so I'll reply again on my thoughts.

  • +1

    5 in Ringwood VIC

  • Looks like it is not available online any longer. Perhaps will be re-stocked later in the week ahead.

  • The ones that were Fairy Meadow (aka Wollongong) are all gone. I thought it was strange on Friday when there was so many people calling up asking for them. Now I know why… lol. As for getting more, doubtful. It's clearance.

  • yeh i called several store and just managed to get a display one, i only really use my monitor for internet and video, had a quick try seems to be pretty good to me. speaker wasn't too bad either, although I have Edifer ones to hook them on to anyway. only thing is that im upgrading from 24inch so it will take me some time to adjust.

  • Wow, nice deal!

  • Thought someone may know the answer to this:

Is Officeworks like Masters, where people who go to store can empty stock, causing even online orders made earlier to be refunded? Or does Officework inventory system keeps good track, so if you can purchase online successfully, you will probably get the stock (ahead of people who later go to store)? Are in-store and online different channels, with separate stock levels?

Any feedback appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    • +1

My understanding is that online stock availability comes from the warehouse in that state & hence is independent of the stock in each store.

      • Oh OK, thank you.

  • BAD NEWS!!

I was assigned a tracking number and told it would be delivered today. Waited at home but no delivery.
Called them. They said they are out of stock and I would be refunded.

    Not happy!

    • What does your status in tracking say? "Awaiting Dispatch" ?
      I waited and waited too.

      • Yes, "Awaiting Dispatch"

        !!!

        • Oh well. So looks like their inventory system allows more units to be ordered than they have physical stock.

They did not change my status from "Order Received" to "Await Dispatch" until quite late in the afternoon. So in the morning, I thought they will cancel. When the status changed to "Await Dispatch", I was hopeful :-) Turns out to be false hope!

    • Rofl OW has done it again.

Did you get the invoice? I just received email 'Attached is your Officeworks Invoice' but it's got no attachment.

      • Did you get the invoice?

        Yes.

      • Actually, as soon as I ordered on Sat, they sent a Confirmation of Order. But within, it says "Order Confirmation and Tax Invoice". I thought that was the tax invoice. I did not receive this email that you spoke of. Also, have not received any info about cancellation yet.

        • +1

Update: found eml attachment which contained pdf attachment z. You should receive this email in addition to the initial confirm email

        • @tesse112: You are quite right, takes a bit of hunting. Found it, was sent this morning!

      • After thinking it might be cancelled, it was delivered after all!

  • I was lucky to grab one in sealed box on Saturday from Garden City even if I purchased online, someone was calling to reserve the stock at the same time when I picked up the box in store. Staff in Officeworks did not want to sell the display unit. Today I received email from Officeworks saying my order is cancelled.

    • I am a bit puzzled: did you not grab the box, pay for it and take it away? How can they cancel it if it is already in your possession?

      • Sorry for the confusion, I did not tell them I made purchase online, I just purchased as a walk-in customer.

  • Got mine delivered this morning. Ordered when the vote was around 80. It was sent from Laverton VIC to Glen Waverley VIC. Don't know whether the stock was coming from their warehouse or store stock.

  • I am one of the lucky ones, having just picked mine up from Marion. It was sent from the warehouse on the 19th, so it looks like it was first in, best dressed rather than a reliance on store stock. I can definately see a fine mosiac of pixels, but then again I am sitting with it on the front of my desk 30 cm from my 3x reading specs. Fonts are not nearly as sharp as my old 24" 16x10 HP, but I have done no tuning. HD video [720P50, youtube - my main purpose] looks brilliant, and the speakers, while not being any replacement for JBLs, are quite bearable. Adjustment using the jog button was pretty much intuative - you keep jogging 'right' once you have made your vertical menu selection, your choice is presented as a bar across the bottom of the screen, then 'up/down' adjusts and 'left' takes you back. It's one of the quickest to get used to I have used.
It looks like Philips really are trying to get respect back after last century's debacles with Pye and Akaia and a few poor decisions regarding cheapening their brand.

  • I called Officeworks in Albany to confirm stock, quoted the model number and was told that they had 6, went in to town today (30KM) only to find that they only had stock of the $278 model. Not happy.

    • So, they did not check the model number you supplied against their stock … and make you travel into town for nothing? OP also said that this was $278 a few days ago; do they have a different model at $278?
