ALDI Retractable Clothesline $39 from July the 15th

280

This is a great price for a retractable clothesline.

I was checking out the hills clearance center earlier this year and these were priced around $120+

The description does not say how long the lines are, but does mention 5 lines and 51.8m of drying space. I'm guessing the that means the lines each are 10m long?

  • Heavy duty
  • Five lines
  • 51.8m drying space
  • Indoor or outdoor use
  • ABS plastic
  • Steel aluminum case with plastic controls
  • Vinyl line with polyfibre fill
  • Can be wall or post mounted (hardware included)
  • Dimensions: 21.59(W) x 17.78(D) x 95.88cm(H)

  • I've been looking for a good quality one of these for my backyard. I'll have to check this one out next week.

  • You'd think 10m long each, it also says it's 22m wide … unless it's talking about the box in inches or something.

    • I think those dimensions are a bit off. I guess it could be only 22cm wide, but I doubt it's almost a meter tall!

    • it says 21.58cm wide… I don't know where you got meters from? I am thinking that it definitely could be a meter long as well. This is a good find!

      • +1

Because it's not 22cm wide? Have a feeling they had the box sideways when they measured it or something… dimensions seem all out!

        • +2

The listed dimension is when it's fully retracted, so it's really 95.88cm wide, the cross section is 21.59cm x 17.78cm.

It also says 51.8m drying space, the picture clearly shows 5 lines, so it's roughly 10.36m per line and around 23cm space between lines.

Wish there was an Aldi in Perth.

  • Wish there was an Costco in Brisbane lol
I saw the clothesline as well! Might get one cause the current one doesn't get any sunlight in winter…

    • Guess only Melb that has both Aldi and Costco + (Air Asia) at the moment

  • now to remember to grab one when it's on sale.

  • This is cheaper than what I've seen in Bunnings, but wonder if it will last long tho.

    • Id say its on par with the cheapest $130 one i bought from bunnings. I fear that my bunnings unit will break off the wall as the mounts for the bolts are plastic. Im worried a session of drying bedding in the wind will tear it from the wall.

      • Could you replace the plastic blots with metal screws?

        • The bolts weren't plastic, it was the mounts that hold it to the wall are made of plastic. With enough stress (wind/weight), im not sure it will hold forever, even though im using 3" dynabolts to mount it into the brick work.

Via the look of the picture its very similar to the unit i bought from bunnings for $130. So great saving.

  • hey ppl, what does it mean to be "post mounted (hardware included)", I'm renting an apartment but wouldnt want to drill holes on the wall… can I use this thing somehow without drilling/nails? Thx :)

    • yeah i am in the same boat! any ideas people?

    • I doubt you can fasten any similar product to the wall, fence, etc without usings nails or preferably screws for at least the brackets. The line would need a fair bit of tension to prevent sagging (esp with the weight of wet washing) which in turn requires strong fastening to something immovable. Speak to your landlord first before risking damage to their property.

      • too bad i guess…thx daydream…

        • The landlord may still be willing or have ideas - just ask them first ;-)

    • Means you can have two poles in the backyard and the main unit is connected to one and it gets pulled out to the other.

    • i bought one of these about a year ago, so know about the product, could fence mount with the screws provided, but still need to mount the anchor to the opposite point, so ideally if renting you need to opposing fences less than 23m apart, screws in and then remove screws when finished, ok so there will be holse in the fence but whose going to notice holes in a fence ?
they are good quality and excellent VFM at this price,

  • My washing never finishes, maybe is time to put in 4 or 5 of these… and maybe one more washing machine :P

  • Do all Aldi's have the same stock? There's been a few times when I've seen something good in the catalogue… But then they don't have them in-store.

    • No. Maybe they all get some stock, but some stores sell out quickly. There are some offers that are very popular and I never catch sight of any stock.

If there are a few stores within reach it's worth noting which stores tend to have more remainders. Also it seems that store managers have the discretion to cut prices to shift stock. E.g. recently North Sydney had a few bluetooth headsets for $13 each. I grabbed one and later on saw that Top Ryde had a pile at $20 each. So I was lucky.

      • I have 3 within 10km, the one that I target for specials is within a Westfield and competes with Coles & Woollies.

I figure the isolated stores are more likely to have a higher volume of shoppers, and unfortunately this means stock is depleted quicker.

  • I picked mine up today.. if you are on the hunt the box is red. Looks to be decent quality.

  • Mum picked up one for me at her local Aldi yesterday, said they were flying out the door. I have a Hills one at the moment but hubby cut one of the lines with the hedge trimmer LOL, sick of waiting for him to fix it. I'm hoping I can just re-use the posts from the Hills to mount this one.
