Xiaomi Mi Box for $85~ after cashback, very cheap!

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32749124753/32749124753.html

    • Can someone please advise if this requires any monthly subscription to watch movies/shows? Thanks

      • +4

I have one and no it does not. The box is awesome. The only things requiring monthly subscriptions are netflix. That sort of thing. It's capable of 4k playback and can be used as a chromecast target. At this price it's cheaper then the Chromecast Ultra and can do so much more.

        • Thanks mate. Some more question (sorry)
Currently I have my chromecast plugged into TV USB port and provides Wifi access to my TV. Can this be plugged into TV USB port as well? I do have HDMI port as well. My LG TV does not have wifi facility or Bluetooth of its own.
Can you please share link for collection of movies I can watch for free or channels that are included for free viewing? Thanks

        • +1

@amsaini15: this isn't one of those boxes, no preinstalled piracy. Only connects via HDMI

        • I'm very disappointed with my Chromecast 2 which I bought for $55. It can't play x265, the only way to cast this is to go full screen at 720p. It can't handle full screen at 1080p without major stutter.

Now, it seems to be dying just 4 months later. I'm getting stutter every 3 minutes on any video I play. So sad that this was version 2, no wonder they came out with Ultra so soon after releasing v2.

Can I use the Mi Box to replace my useless Chromecast 2 and upgrade it to something that isn't incompetent? Does it handle 1080p full screen mirroring smoothly?

        • @supersabroso: 99% of Chromecast problems are WiFi related, what router do you have? I have 2 Gen1's and a Gen2 CC and all of them work fine.

        • -1

@XeKToReX: I've got a D-Link DSL 2890AL, this is a top of the line model that I bought 2 years ago, definitely not a router problem, just a Chromecast 2 is a major scam of an old tech problem. Not one person from OzBargain could refute my claim regarding it being completely incapable of mirroring 1080p or x265 video without stuttering like no tomorrow (Can't decode x265 full stop, needs to rely on your computer). No one could reference a single source on the internet that said it was possible. It just sucks. I mean I live with it because 720p on the TV is pretty good, but it just sucks that I spent $55 on something that doesn't do what it says it does.

I can play the 1080p videos very smoothly if it's through the chrome browser but that defeats the purpose as you lose so much control, flexibility and ease when you can't use unified remote. I use it to mirror my screen to watch anything I want, not to stream video off the internet. (Pointless as you can't play any x265 video from any browser/app full stop.)

        • @supersabroso: Router should be fine, both your phone and the CC are within decent range of the router and connected to the 5Ghz SSID?

What phone do you have? Your phone has to record the screen, encode the video and then ship it off to the CC, if you don't have a very recent phone, I wouldn't be surprised if it was laggy.

        • -1

@XeKToReX: I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4, also used 5. It doesn't go from my phone. It's direct from my beasty quad-core 3.3GHz laptop with a 2GB dedicated graphics card. Definitely not my hardware problem. As I said, no one has made any other comment about it being capable of what I said it was incapable of. Can't be done, it's just old tech. Dunno how google scammed so many people with the Chromecast 2 when Chromecast 1 did the exact same thing for half the price. The ultra version should be called version 2 if it can handle 1080p. I'm sure it'll have the same problem where it just can't handle 4K screen mirroring.

It's like the Mijia 360 home camera getting away with advertising as a 1080p camera BS because it records in 1080 if you press the record button manually live. Otherwise it only records 720p. Scam.

I hope that one day it's just a firmware fix, but most likely it'll be a go buy our next Chromecast.

        • @XeKToReX:
I can also say the wifi router is usually the issue. My Chromecast2 is highly used in my household especially after bringing the wifi router closer to the Chromecast. Often wifi issues are related to interference from other wifi devices (like neighbours). Change the channel on the router and make sure you use wifi N.

The one neg I see with this box is that it only has 1 usb port. Other brands come with 2 which allows me to connect my Logitech k400r keyboard as well as my portable hdd/usb stick.

    • is it better to buy the international version or ĉhinese and then just change the language?

      • International every time

    • Thanks for that, ended up buying one and it costed my $98.31 AUD using VPay card (from HN Amex offers).

  • +1

I bought it from the same seller last Sunday for $102.22 + 7% cashback from cash rewards. Should have waited few more days.

  • Nice! Thanks TA

  • ahh i dont know how much longer i can resist, damn you Jack Ma

  • So starts at five and ends at five tomorrow AEDT?

    • Who would…

      • If this had been a month early I would have got it for the SO. Looks like it'll be their bday present :>

    Nice Cashback,
Just wish I didn't have to log a support request with CashRewards every time I purchase something as it is never tracked or only part of the items in my cart are registered.

    • +2

Are you using the extension? I find it to work well.

      • +1

Used Chrome Extension, different browsers and computers.
Also used a bare bone computer with no Antivirus, Add blocker or any Spyware software installed.
Do not browse other sites, use vouchers or compare prices.
All purchases have been done with in the 3 hour time frame.

All the history is registered in Cashrewards web site but no purchase activated.

        Example:
I bought 10 items from Aliexpress on the same time, Cashreward only registered 3 of them, all under the same Transaction ID.

It would be good for Cashrewards to have Some integration and / or confirmation process as part of the addin.

        • All purchases have been done with in the 3 hour time frame

I do mine within 5 minutes to minimise issues.
Literally add everything to cart or wishlist (to make adding to cart easier)

Restart the browser, go cashrewards, add everything into cart (if its not there), then pay immediately. No fluffing around.
I do all my browsing before I click through cashrewards. It's like a prepayment step for me.
Works every time on big sites (ebay, aliexpress, wiggle)

        • @cwongtech:

          Sorry, Was not clear.
I do the same as you but quoted time frame from email received from Cashreward.

        • @omega31:
That's extremely strange that it tracks some and not all of the items in the same transaction.
          Thanks for clarifying :)

  • not sure if its just me but the items i've been eyeing for some time have suddenly went up abit in price, i dont think aliexpress pulls some ebay like move do they?

    • I thought it was because China Post stopped/reduced their shipping subsidies, making postage more expensive.

  • +1

The Sinobi 1132 is reduced atm to $32.17 (normally $40.00) & with the cashback it's $28.63. Might have to try one out for that price.

  • Have been thinking about getting a 3D printing pen - has anyone used one before? The idea sounds cool, but the figures in the marketing photos all look terrible…

Have been thinking about getting a 3D printing pen(aliexpress.com) - has anyone used one before?

They're both great fun and frustrating at the same time but as you get used to it they get easier to use. Well worth the money for the fun they provide. Print out plans for buildings etc and trace onto there and it makes it a lot easier.

      • For around $30 then it sounds like a bit of fun. Do they chew through the plastic string stuff quickly? not sure if it's worth buying extra

I purchased a pack from banggood which had 15 colours. It doesn't go through it really fast but definately buy more as waiting 2-4 weeks for delivery when you run low spoils the fun.

  • Someone give me a reason not to buy the Xiaomi mi5s?

    • +20

Because your existing phone still works fine.

      • +7

Because your existing phone still works fine.

Now it does but what about tomorrow?

        • tomorrow still works

seriously people upgrade their phone every month these days.

i too have had so many phones in short period because the market keeps upgrading them so quickly and i keep caving in whenever theres a new cpu on the block.

        • +2

I bought a Xiaomi Redmi 3 from GeekBuying and 3 months later the screen stopped working.

Sure, it was cheap enough to just buy a replacement, but there's a good enough reason to be careful of the Mi phones.

        • @railspider: you either are unlucky or I'm lucky. Had my Redmi 3 phone for … 6 months now. It is dropped on a regular basis, was kicked, saw lots of water (not submerged). Had a tough life and still works great !

Will def. buy some more MI when this dies.

      • Now orange123 needs a reason not to break their current phone.

    • Found a good price?

    • +1

No microSD, no Gorilla Glass, no OIS, no band 28.

      • You got me at OIS. I assumed it had it.

        Thanks

        • +1

It has EIS like the Pixel which is recognized as the number one camera phone right now. That said, Mi5 with OIS has been reviewed to produce better photos than Mi5S -> EIS can be better than OIS if its done right.

  • Posted 5 minutes after I spent $400. Today is not my day.

    • +3

Can't you just cancel your order with AliExpress?

    • Mate, go cancel ASAP. If the funds are still in the verification phase then you will get a full refund with no repercussions. I did this myself on a $10 item and got a full refund. For some reason comm bank didn't charge the 3% international fee even though the $10 was deducted from my account instantly.

  • Are you able to sign up with the referral link while still using cash rewards for the discount followed by discount + $5 off second purchase?

Curious to know, how legit are the products on AliExpres? I've never bought anything from them before as I've heard that there are many fakes on there.

    • +1

check seller feedback, sales volume, created date… the same as you would (should) do for ebay.

      • Oh, i didn't know they were like ebay… thought they were a seller. Thanks!

        • +1

no, they are a market, with individual retailers.
at a simple level, like ebay stores, but only with 'buy it now'

  • Hi Everyone,
I was just considering a Mi Max or Mi Max Prime or Pro, and also a Mi Box, but was not sure if the DHL shipping is worth to get it all before Christmas. Anyone have any experience?
Also, do anyone else have any experience with the Mi Max phones, any feedback? I want to send one to my father in India to be able to use the JIO free 4G offer, plus he needs a new phone anyway. If anyone got any good/bad to say about a Mi Max or Mi Box, please speak now.
    Thanks.

    • Hey mate. I purchased a mi max for my mother in-law from AliExpress few months back with 10% Cashback offer. It works really well in India plus the global rom has a lot of Indian languages, which is really helpful for elderly people not knowing English that well.

      • Hi,
Great, thanks. Yeah I have purchased the Mi Max Prime that i linked before. I see there is Punjabi too in the languages, that will certainly help. Was worried that it may be a tad too big, but look ok, should be fine.
        Regards,

  • Any idea why certain items disappear when I visit aliexpress via cashrewards? Do certain sellers not agree to the cashback scheme so it doesn't list them?

    • +1

Just add your items to the cart and then when you're done, visit AliExpress via CashRewards and checkout.

      @macca

This issue was identified previously. See clear's response here.

You do this to me after I spent $200 USD on a Mi Max 2 days ago? Damn you tight.

      Damn, you tight.

      Damn you, tight.

          Foot in my mouth!

      • Semi-colon; Parenthesis)
        ;)

    • You paid less than I did a few months ago and be happy knowing you've got a great phone coming.

    • Hi,
Which Mi Max did you buy? What seller you bought it from ? I see there is Xiaomi as a seller too. I think that will be good to buy from the Xiaomi itself. There own online prices are a bit more than what it on Ali.

  • Oh no gonna have to stock up on some lepin star wars now.

  • Thinking about buying a quadcopter, specifically the Hubsan X4 105s Advanced.

Anyone able to suggest a reliable seller?

  • Can you stack this with the $5 app voucher?

    • For a lot of us, voucher only appears in your mobile app. I can't use cashrewards using the app..

      • I just found a work around. If you leave the app with the item stuck in payment but don't complete the transaction, you can come back to it on the desktop site by clicking My orders.. And proceed to pay with the mobile coupon already applied!

  • Bought a mibox on 11/11 from Ali,

received the parcel yesterday, What a joke :(

    • Do you see China when you look out the window?

  • Are there Lenovo laptops for sale on AliExpress….?

  • +1

    Are xiaomi dealers shipping powerbanks?

    • this, the last seller told me they wouldn't ship (air freight lithium rules??), so I had to get a refund

  • I'm looking to buy a Note 3 Pro. Preferably 32gb, 3 gig ram but open to smaller version. Can someone please point me in the direction of the most affordable one on AliExpress that has global rom. Cheers!

P.S. Not sure why but OzB forced me to check that Im associated with cashrewards when Im clearly not.

  • Thanks. Was about to purchase a phone when the email came through. The extra 4% is great.

  • Anyone received any tracking emails yet?

    • Nope, the order didn't track for me. Mine was in two order for two items purchased in one order, but Ali generated two separate order.

    • Nope, ordered about 9 last night using the chrome extension.

      • +1
        • +1 takes a few days to come thru. Think my Sunday purchase took 3 or 4 days to show up.

        • It has generally been faster using the extension though, before using that it would normally take a few days but most purchases I've made with it active have been confirmed within a few hours.

No biggie though, I'll give it a few days.

    • +1

Mine came through this evening. Thanks guys.

  • Placed an order at 4:57 PM AEDT and received an email confirmation from CashRewards at 5:26 PM AEDT.

    • Same here. Pretty similar times.

  • I got my Cashrewards email confirmation for 11% the next day, but today the amount changed to about 7%. Anyone else saw the reward amount change in their account balance?
