Remember they had 50% not so long ago.

I am not sure if I'm going to pull the trigger on this one.

    My sums

    Sunglasses = $240
    Minus 30% CF3 = $168
    Minus 10% CR = $151.20
    Pay via Amex = $126.20

Maybe I could make it work…

    • Those were 50% were on selected items only

I end up buying Rayban Justin

      Sunglasses = $180
      Minues 30% CF3 = $126
      Minus 10% CR = $113.4
      Pay via Amex = $88.4

      Thanks OP

      • love these sunglasses, I bought 2 pairs.

Sunglasses Hut is the worst place to buy sunglasses.

  • +1

Not to be a downer - but paying $200 for something that cost ~$30 to manufacture doesn't seem like much of a bargain…

The sunglasses market is almost a monopoly with a company called Luxottica owning 80% of the market - they basically set prices. The own the brands and the retailers including Sunglasses Hut.
e.g. Raybans used to be cheap sunnies - until Luxottica bought the company and quadrupled (or more) the price of the glasses.

Don't support this rip-off company. 30% off their hugely inflated prices isn't a bargain.

I'm sure there are plenty of other options but Bunnings has a reasonable range of sporty looking sunglasses for ~$15 - buy a handful and leave them in the car. Lose/scratch your sunnies? Don't worry, I've got another 5 pairs in the glovebox!

Anyway, i'm off to find a ladder so i get get off this high-horse…

I'm surprised it took this many comments to get a Luxottica post :)

And they were low quality with a poor reputation at that time. I am no fan of Luxottica but they did turn around RayBan.

Don't support this rip-off company. 30% off their hugely inflated prices isn't a bargain.

It's 30% off plus another 10% off plus $25 off if you have Amex. I'm buying a non polarised pair of cockpits to go with my polarised cockpits. $200 down to around $100. Pretty good value IMO.

I'm sure there are plenty of other options but Bunnings has a reasonable range of sporty looking sunglasses for ~$15

Sure and you can buy the same glasses from AliExpress for $4 each delivered so where do you stop? I know that the RayBans will protect me from UV as they have too much to lose and no reason to leave out UV protection but those Bunnings and AliExpress glasses on the other hand……….

I'm still rocking a pair of Category 3 Polarised New Wayfarers that I bought in 2011. Very high quality glasses that last, if you take care of them.

        • +2

I'm still wearing the Ray Bans I bought in 1984.

        • @stevenkw2t: Just curious, are the Ray Bans from 33yrs ago any different to ones today?

        • @Moj0: yeah they're dirty and scratched. Mine look a bit different to wayfarers. I just googled vintage ray ban and they look similar to Drifters. I bought them at an optometrist and they seemed horrendously expensive at the time, but a doctor had told me to get some very good sunglasses. At the time I was familiar with the high quality of Bausch & Lomb camera lenses.

I used to buy only $2-$5 sunglasses from Asia. Then I upgraded a bit and paid $30 - $40. Went on a holiday with my in-laws and putting on his pair of Maui Jim on the beach, a whole world looked totally different. I will never go back to those crap sunglasses again. Buying $15 sunglasses that costs $1 to manufacture is not much better than $200/$30.

Any advice on lens widths, my head is very slim.

Why don't Oakley's ever go on sale?

    • Maintains the brands premium reputation.
They are all owned and made by the same company, they just market the logo like it is more exclusive.

      • I'd hardly consider Oakley to be more of a premium brand than Ray-Ban, let alone Prada etc.

    • Isn't Oakey available on Sunglass Hut and part of this deal?

    • Oakleys only ever go on sale during stocktake sales.

Just went in store (pitt st mall - sydney) and bought a pair at 30%.

In other words, if you dont give a rat's ass about amex credits and cash rewards, and can't be f'ed with the sunglass website, the 30% applies in store as well.

    • +6

You can still pay with Amex in store to get the cashback

      • +1

Thanks! Haven't reached black belt in tight arseness yet, so have no idea about how these various cash back/rewards programs work.

        • Yea that'd be more convenient but you'll be losing 10% cashback from CashRewards.

  • -1

Always excludes Oakleys - This is crap!

Shit i always miss out on these Amex Cards offer need to get a Amex card.

Can someone buy me a $180 sunglasses should cost you $88 i can pay 100 :)

  • +2

Almost brings prices down to normal levels!

  • I've been buying the Nike ones from Sports Direct when on special. 15-20 pounds for these are good value in my opinion as the lenses are high quality. Not to everyone's taste but are to mine.

Ok so sunglasses are one of those products i just can't seem to find my niche for. I live in sunnies and i enjoy the heavier (Acetate?) quality pairs from companies like ray-ban. but there seems to be a hole in the market, you can either get $1-$30 Chinese lightweight crappy plastic sunnies (Polarised and regular) or you can get $300 Luxottica specials that everyone would have you believe is a serious rip-off. The problem is nobody makes a $50-80 quality pair that has the same build quality as those $300 rayban/mauijim/prada ones. Where do i get a well built (Preferably glass lenses and the heavier acetate frame as opposed to polycarbonate, also the stronger hinges you tend to see on things like ray-bans) pair for a non ripoff price then? People keep saying "Don't buy Luxottica because they only cost $30 to make" but i'm yet to be shown anything comparable in quality for a reasonable price. Surely there's a chinese factory somewhere reproducing exact Luxottica designs and selling them for $60-90 a piece?

    • https://au.eyebuydirect.com/ (link provided by plastic spoon) seems to fit what you want?

      • This place looks pretty great, prices for polarized vs non polarized are kind of steep ($50 odd difference seems slightly excessive?) but they fall within a very acceptable price range, appear to be made of the right stuff and have some level of customization to boot! Definitely going to give these guys a go with 14 day fitting/style returns. Thanks a whole bunch for the link!

        • No worries, BOGOF till tomorrow.
Still have to pay for the 'lens upgrade' though = 2 pairs for around $150?

        • +1

          @h4lcyon:

Ahh rats, i wasn't quite ready to commit to a purchase, i suppose i'll elect to miss out on the BOGOF. Seems they also have a 15% off first purchase though.

  • site down ?

    • THE STORE HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM PROCESSING THE LAST REQUEST. TRY AGAIN LATER. IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTS, CONTACT YOUR SITE ADMINISTRATOR.

      :/

  • Works in store as well, they will match it if you CBF wait for delivery, and want them fitted/adjusted, bought a pair of polarized wayfarers today.
