  • Similar to air conditioning? Should cool…

    • +1

      No it won't.

    • +1

Mechanically it's like an airconditioner that pushes the hot air exhaust through the cooling condenser instead of releasing it outside. Net effect is that it doesn't really cool but it does remove moisture from the air.

It makes the air less humid and sticky. Useful up North.

    • +1

Not really. Most blow hot air out the back as the intake air is mixed with that of the air used for the cooling/compression system. It's like a portable single unit, air conditioner, but with both internal and external intake/exhaust systems mixed into one section. That's been my experience. Most will also indicate the level of heating delivered as additional to the ambient temperature.

It doesn't generate heat either. It simply removes energy to cool whatever is being used to condense water and puts it back into the space it's in. Net heat energy added is zero beyond whatever the motor etc. produce.

        • +4

Sorry you're incorrect. It heats the air - check the manual. Or my existing dehumidifier, which adds about 3-4c. To create condensate/cool water vapour, it needs to expel hot air as part of the compressor/condenser process. The water is cooled but hot air is circulated back into the room. Plus there's loss due to inefficiency so more heat.

I have got an earlier model Altise 20L dehumidifier (ode20)which I have had for 6 years and it has been great. If you have some problem areas in your place that you can't deal with properly in the near future it is a fantastic temporary solution.

We have also used it to dry out things when we've left windows open during a storm and drying out kids school shoes, bags and stuff. It's been a worthwhile investment and we paid at least 3 times that amount.

    • If you had a power outage while it's running, did it turn back on automatically when the power resumed?

      • I don't recall it ever happening so i just got it out and tested it out by pulling the plug on the powerboard. It turned back "on" to standby but wasn't actually operating.

        • Oh it's not suitable for me then, thanks a lot!

  • Good price and I like how this allows you to specify the relative humidity. My current unit only has continuous, wet, comfortable and dry settings with no indication of rel humidity.

  • From a review online…

    Was Great for Two Years
    2 out of 5, reviewed on Jul 11, 2013
We bought this product after damp problems in our house. It was great for the first 2 winters (don't need it in summer) but into our 3rd and it hardly works at all any more. It used to easily extract 20l per night out of our house overnight but now we'd get a less than a litre so we'll have to replace it. It's a shame you have to fork out over $300 for what is essentially 6 months of use. Also it's very noisy and the blue light on the front will light up your room at night like a Christmas Tree.

    • Was great for 2 winters

    • Only got 2 years (6 months all up) use out of it, noisy and the light is too bright.

    Fail

Similar to the "air conditioner" that I bought from ALDI recently.
It blows hot air out the window. And cold air blows from the top.
      It's very loud.

However, it just doesn't make the room cold.
      Its slightly cooler at best.
And that's with the settings set to max and running on for the full day (that's full 24h).
Did I mention it is loud?

I'll find out how much more electricity its used, for a slight increase in temperate comfort.
      Sorry did you say something?

  • Cheers, good bargain!

Funny some people say it heats the room others say it does not
    You are a weird lot

    • +1

If you read the manual it states that it heats the air slightly before releasing it back into the room. All dehumidifiers do this (I have 3 different types). The heat has to go somewhere after the condenser/compressor does it's job. Some dehumidifying cabinets just use heat to remove moisture.

This thing will be adding to your power bill sucking the juice down at 390 watts 24/7
Also not really suitable for Aussie conditions because:
"Temperature Working Range: 5 ~32°C" = mostly useless in Queensland

    • Not sure who would ever use it 24/7. You'd end up like a mummy without the bandages and your house would probably crumble to pieces.

      • No they cut out once they achieve a certain reasonable moisture level. You can set it between 40 and 70%

  • Will use this to help dry my clothes without much sunlight in my room… Anyone with a choice sub? https://www.choice.com.au/products/home-and-living/cooling/d… I heard that it was well rated and above the delonghi (maybe a older one though?)

    • Yes it will help by compensating for the increased moisture from the drying clothed but is not the right tool for the job as it will attempt to bring down the moisture level in the entire room and not specifically dry your clothes

  • +1

Interesting what google brings up. This guy trying to sell it for $250 http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/woolloongabba/air-conditionin…

  • +1

I just bought one myself and didn't even know it was posted on ozbargain… How did this not blow up! ?
RRP $399, ~$250 everywhere else and this is $79!??

I was considering the 16l dimplex and the oade16 from appliance online too for 200ish…
Hope this this helps with my stuffy room when the house air con is on, opening the window just makes the room hotter during this season.
