Rebatr Gone?

I've just activated another Telstra Starter pack on Beyond Talk, which still gets credits that can be used for Google Play.

I wanted to cash out the $30 via Rebatr but got only an error message 'item not available for purchase'. I can't find the app in the Play store any more, it still is installed on my phone.

Does anyone know what happened? Any other way to convert Telstra credit to cash? If not, any recommended apps or books I could buy to use up that play store credit?

    Use premium SMS to donate the money to charity, then claim it back on tax. You'll get back 39% if earning $80k+ a year. Not as much as 55% on rebatr but the charity gets $5 for a net cost to you of 80 cents (compared to using rebatr).

    I spoke back and for with the owner, Leon who is currently working on Rebatr 2.0. It seems Google pulled the plug without warning based on spurious reports (compeditor?).
    Anyway, he maintains that anyone who had payments in process will be paid in full.

    I run it and it seems to load up fine. But I didn't try paying them.

  • I find T-cashback's one month wait period really annoying. Hoping Rebatr 2.0 is out soon else will get myself writing a Rebatr clone app :-) Considering the setup investment ( Google developer account activation + 30% fees for IAP) will take a few transactions to break even. Just wondering when Google unceremoniously pulls out an app, will the associated account be able to cash out the monies or does Google has some T&Cs to forfeit it?

    • I built my own private app for this purpose. It's well hidden obviously so it hopefully isn't setting off any alarm bells, but even if it did disappear I would still be in front. The way Google Play Merchant Centre pays the developer is via bank deposit on the 15th of the following month for all purchases in that month. i.e. all IAPs made through your app in February 2017 will be deposited to your bank account (less 30%) on 15th March 2017. This way, worst case scenario, if your app is pulled you lose just one month of IAPs.

    • Hmmmm, the app I think you are referring to was last updated on 16/8/2016 and it's brother app (the car one) updated 19/6/2016. I'm not convinced this is from the same developer as Rebatr and therefore not sure how reliable they are with payouts…

      • I think you have the wrong app. The new app was updated February 19, 2017. I received an email (like most of us) from the developer about the new release on Monday 20th Feb

        • Ah sorry, I didn't receive the email. I assume the developer has asked not to share the name publicly then.

      Has anyone successfully processed a payment through it yet?

        • Yes, I was forgetting about the processing over the weekend. I too have put through a $10 test transaction.

          I would have thought the app publisher could have made app a little more related or at least in the email mentioned the name of the new app. I gave this feedback to the publisher.

    • As long as the email you signed up with is the same as your PayPal email address it will automatically match up.

          I did a $10 test transaction on the 16th and was paid 55% on the 17th.

          Then on the 18th put through a $100 transaction which didn't show up in the apps transaction history. I did receive a Google wallet receipt from Google but haven't received a payout.
          Haven't gotten any response from the app developer about if he sees the transaction.
          Will update this is the cash turns up.

  • Can anyone get in contact with rebatr author? I have 2 emails connected to my gmail account only one of which is paypal. Does that mean I won't receive cashback? I've sent emails (and followup emails) over the past 4 months with no response.

    I just received a txt from Telstra advising of changes to my (grandfathered) prepaid plan. It looks like they are finally phasing out the Premium SMS for Google Play Store and as a result has affected the ability to use Cashback apps such as Woo Woo Wisdom & T-Cashback. This change will occur from 3rd December 2017. From what I understand only existing subscriptions PRIOR to the effective date will still work. I've gotten word from Woo Woo Wisdom support team that they are working on a possible solution using subscriptions. Hopefully they can achieve the 3rd December deadline. Watch this space for more updates.

      As long as you get the Google transaction receipt you should be able to score the wisdom.

    Looks like the app has been updated to support subscriptions now. I suggest anyone who uses this app to subscribe before midnight and keep your fingers crossed that it means we can still use the cashback.

    • Normal app/movie etc purchases stopped for me this morning, but I still managed to sign up a subscription to WoW, looks like they have a 7 day free grace period so first charge will be on the 9th. Hoping it works.

        • Clicked on the button -> Subscriptions and picked $5 for my phone, and $100 for the wifes (which had $350 we 'lost')

  • Whirlpool reports that Telstra billed subscriptions are now declined so no more Woo Woo credit :-(
