[STEAM] RUST - 50% off ($9.99USD/$13.38AUD)

110

Rust is a multiplayer-only survival video game in development by Facepunch Studios for Microsoft Windows, OS X, and Linux. Rust was originally released onto Steam's Early Access program on 11 December 2013. Rust was initially created as a clone of DayZ, a popular mod for ARMA 2 with the addition of crafting elements.

The game tasks players to survive in the wilderness by crafting items using the materials they gather or steal; the player starts with only a rock and a torch. There is only a multiplayer mode and a prevalent concept in Rust is to form and join clans with other players. Raiding is a very common action, usually done in large clans. Since Rust's first alpha launch, animals, hunting and the ability to craft armor and weapons have been added. It initially featured zombies as enemies, but subsequently replaced them with bears and wolves. Radiation was also removed due to the frustration it was causing players, although it was later reintroduced.

Throughout Rust's alpha release, it was met with mixed critic reviews and many comparisons with other survival games were made, with the most common one being the mixture between DayZ and Minecraft. Reviewers praised the game's concept and gameplay, while also noting the obvious unfinishedness. By the end of 2015, Rust had sold over three million copies.

A four-pack is also available for $19.99USD/$26.80AUD.

Rust used to be good before the major update

    • What are you associated with, and what update are you talking about?

    • That's ridiculous. The game is better than ever.

    • Completely agree. New rust looks better but gameplay suffered imho. Having said that, it is probably the best game in it's genre I've played

      lol
Rust a sandbox based video game which was extremely popular in the early 21st century, before the changes.

Don't Do it! rust is like Crack! you will loose 1 - 2 months of your life!

if you do get into this - trust no one.

It's true - Rust is highly addictive and will cause you to waste whole days of your life at a time. It's one of the few games I've played lately that I can become totally absorbed in, despite being a relatively concept with easy-to-learn gameplay.

It's best played with friends - get a group together and buy a 4 pack for the best experience.

  • Is it possible to play this with friends, or do you get spawned at some random location and have to try to find allies?

    • +1

It's best played with friends - solo players will struggle at first so cooperation, shared resources and mutual defence are a good strategy.

You do get spawned at random locations, but it's not hard to meet up and play together.

Play on a modded server where you can tp to friends.

    • you just need to create a sleeping bag for them, then 5 minutes later when they die, they respawn at the sleeping bag…

  • I always watch game play on youtube never played the game tho

  • Great game but beware of a toxic community (not sure if it's always been this unfriendly). As someone above mentioned, best played with friends - playing solo is near impossible.

    • What do you mean by "toxic community"? I haven't found that at all in my couple of weeks playing.

I've seen a few people having a whinge about "toxic community" when they're killed by another player. You're going to be killed a lot while you're learning; it's inevitable. It's a survival game, so it's usually player v player and clan v clan, competing for territory and resources. That's the entire nature of the game - if you don't like it, don't play.

There are some players who are very aggressive, or do a lot of trash-talking in the chat, but they can be ignored for the most part. And there's a reasonable choice of servers, with some having plentiful resources, so you can avoid the worst of them and learn in a less threatening environment.

      • Too many players KOS… and many will toll you as well. its pretty toxic.. but part of the game.

        • +1

Killing other players on sight is a reasonable response, in the context of a survival game. Not being seen is an essential strategy in highly populated areas, and the resources are usually most plentiful in exposed areas. Even the high visibility of air-drops heightens competition for resources.

You don't hear of people calling Battlefield or CoD toxic because opposing teams kill each other on sight. Rust is much the same.

Having said that, I've seen plenty of rival players share resources, trade and give advice. Killing on sight is common, but it's not mandatory - in fact, alliances are vital to progress in the game.

    A four-pack is also available for $19.99USD/$26.80AUD.

4 Pack is $30USD, not $20USD. So its about the same price.

Damn… User name checks out. (Sorry, couldn't resist. :) )

  • Looks like it's expired

    • Wouldn't be surprised if it's on sale again before 2017.

Note Garry also said in the devblog yesterday that very soon we will be able to lock bears in friends bases. Can't wait
