$300 price drop before the discount! Very nice. Feel for the buyers that paid the higher price.

    • +25

Those buyers should buy another one to reduce their average cost per TV

  • I assume it's VA rather than the superior IPS.
    And I assume no HDR10
    … but
    It's BIG
    It's UHD

    • +1

HDR premium lets you experience sharp contrasts and brightness with deeper blacks and brighter whites
8-bit Colour for a more true-to-life and immersive image
UHD Dimming creates deeper blacks, purer whites, and enhanced colour and detail in every image

      75" is BIG.
65" is the new 68cm CRT.

      • +1

I agree. Still holding out for a good price on a 75' Sammy UHD to replace my 75' HD. Once you go 75, you can't go back!

      • +1

When I bought my 54" tv, it was so big that it was in a separate corner of the store, rather than mixed with the "ordinary" tv's. It was hardly considered "consumer-level".

Reminds me of a quote from "Everybody hates Chris": 19-inch TV? Nowadays, guys have those in their headrests. But back then, it was a big deal.

      • +2

75" is tiny. If you want big, buy a projector. IMHO, 55-65" budget TV + 120"+ roll down PJ screen fulfils all needs.

    • +3

I'm not sure VA is inferior, especially if you are going to play using consoles , VA offers superior response time and deeper blacks , but has a very small loss in colour output and viewing angles….I'd take a VA panel over IPS , especially for games

    • VA and IPS are equal footed. I would even stretch it and say VA is better as it gets you the perfect image when sitting at the front. IPS really suffers from low contrast/crappy black no matter where you sit.

    • Its a great tv,if you need one get it.

      • +1

No it's not. Video Juddering in all refresh rate.

        • +1

Yep, had one and couldn't stand the judder and the black levels. Returned (after a small fight) and got a Sony.

2016 and Samsung think it's okay not to include judder-free playback which has been standard since 2007/8. Baffling.

VA panel in an LCD or don't bother. IPS is garbage for big screens.

        • +2

@BradH13: Can't agree more. Sony is still an expert when it comes to anti-juddering.

    • VA both have their advantages and disadvantages, IPS definitely isn't directly superior.

Quality VA panels can easily rival quality IPS in colour reproduction. Other than that, pro's for VA is better blacks, better colour uniformity (a lot of ips panels this big suffer from poor uniformity).

For IPS, main one is MUCH better viewing angle.

Pretty sweet deal for a tv this big imo, if i was looking for a tv right now, i wouldn't hesitate to pick this up.

  • 60" model (UA60KU6000W) also available for $1,436

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/279347

  • But the HDR is 8-bit? Isn't 10-bit going to be really the minimum you want?

      • +9

He was asking rather than making a statement about anything, no need to be a dick..

10 bit is superior to 8 bit though.. its one of the boxes I need ticked before upgrading.

        • I'm trying to figure out why 10-bit is better. I know there are more colours but can we actually distinguish them all? Isn't 8-bit (per R/G/B -> 24-bit total) normally referred to as true colour since we can't distinguish beyond about 12 million colours?

I really don't get "Deep colour". Is there actually content yet in it? Can the panel actually display it anyway?

      • Well this is one of the questions that I have been considering, whether 8-bit is good enough? or whether I should stretch to 12-bit? or just go with 10-bit, which seems to have a great deal of support, whereas 12-bit (aka Dolby Vision) does not appear to be prevalent in terms of content.
        What's your opinion?

      • You might wanna lose the arrogance - what exactly have you contributed to the discussion that is fruitful?

    • +2

      Mate, Its a bahhhhhhhhgain.

  • +1

    damn 2 x 4K 65"s for under $2k today

how does this compare to the sony X7500D?

i know sony is 10bit so wins out there

    • Reviews seem to be better for the Sony and the fact that it's 10 bit means id definitely go with the Sony if I had a choice of the two

  • Damn thats a good price

  • +2

Maybe I'm just being ungrateful, but neither Sony nor the Samsung have the new quantum LEDS - or wide colour gamut.

Boxing day sales last year had the 65KS8000 @ $2400 (wide colour). Surely this year it will be a bit cheaper, sub $2k

Some-one tell me that I'm dreaming.

    • +5

      You're dreaming

      • +7

But if they threw in a couple of jousting sticks?

    • +3

It's $1500 in the US so ~$2k is plausible. No idea why they are listed for $3700 here.

  • Wish they would do a deal on the 8000, has been enough deals on the 6000.

  • What is the likelihood of a 70"-75" UHD being sub 2k during Boxing Day?

    • +2

Very slim for a big brand TV

    • Hisense maybe.

      • Yer was gonna say them but they are not big brand tho

        • 3rd largest in the world isn't "big brand"?

        • @kamoi:

Sorry I didn't think Hisense was a big brand TV like Sony, Samsung, Pana etc

Thought they were more mid level above TLC but below the ones mention above

  • Make sure your sitting directly infront.
    Off axis viewing is horrible.

  • Not sure why you would buy a TV without HDR in December 2016. Kids won't notice but gaming and movies will all offer HDR going forward.

    • -1

Unfortunately HDR is still nascent. It actually looks worse in a daylit room due to the reduced average picture level, and many models have got bad tone mapping and/or gamut errors. I'd give it another 5 years to mature.

      • +2

I thought HDR was a gimmick too until I actually bought a HDR10 screen.

HDR gaming on the PS4 and Xbox One S is absolutely gorgeous, and now I hate playing games that don't have the functionality built in.

The wider colour gamut is reason enough, but then the brightness of the screen makes it shine.

No problems during day time with it, either (definitely looks best at night with the lights off though).

        • I thought only the unreleased Xbox scorpion was gona be able to do the 4K native games ?

        • +1

Didn't say it was a gimmick, said it was nascent. Two completely different words.
          http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/4k-vs-201604104279.htm
If you follow their reviews you will find it not uncommon for a HDR model to have issues with tone mapping and saturation levels not being right in all modes. It's always like this with new technology and doesn't surprise me or frankly even disappoint me anymore. It's taken about 10 years to even be able to get a TV that does a good 2.4 gamma curve in standard dynamic range for night time viewing, of course they are not going to nail the Perceptual Quantiser across all HDR standards on first gen HDR displays. They will screw it up in the firmware like they always do, then fix something in the next year's model, and then maybe screw it up again in the year after that, eventually after 10 years or so it will work perfectly on any brand TV.

  • +2

Is the Sony deal worth the extra $400?

    • If your going to be using 4k content with HDR support go with the Sony as HDR10 is supported. If you just watching standard TV etc the Samsung with probably do you fine

  • +1

This won't fit in the back of the i30….
    $65 delivery cost

  • +2

Please help me decide……which 65" TV.

The Samsung with $65 delivery charge $1661 or the Sony delivered for $1999

Ready to pull the trill trigger on a 65"

    • Samsung :)

    • +3

Mate. There's a reason Sony is more expensive…

      • +1

Japanese Yen vs South Korean Won vs $A?

      • Downvoted! Ha don't like the truth do you? That cheap arse Samsung is the worst. I have a 8series Samsung and it's awesome but the one here is a waste of 1500 dollars. Sony is at least watchable

    • Definitely go Sony if you can afford it!

      • Is there any particular reason? Sony does not manufacture panels by themselves anymore.

        • Well I'm going off reviews from buyers and personal experience between the two brands as well as spec list of course. Sony for me is just a much more reliable brand and no TV I have ever bought from them has let me down (same goes for Panasonic)

        • @bloobat: I just want to point out the current crops of Sony TV are not reliable as Sony TV from the Walkman-era Sony.

They used to manufacture VA panels with Samsung and now Sony have sold all their assets. So they dont manufacture panels anymore and no longer have that advantage of having cutting edge techs over other brands. It is a bit difficult to justify the price gap between two brands now, but i guess some people have their own preferences.

  • Can you transport these TVs flat (e.g., lying face up/down) in a car, or do you have to transport them upright?

    • iirc LED TV's are fine to transport flat. It's plasmas that need to be kept upright (probably one of the reasons behind their demise)

  • Here is the review guys http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/ku6300

Note the different US part number. Same unit, as is mentioned in the article.

    • Probably not the best idea to be looking at look at US reviews when deciding on a AU model as ours are often stripped down versions. Take for example that Sony from the other deal at the moment. The US model has a 60Hz 10-bit panel, whereas our local model is 8-bit 50Hz.

      • +1

Why do we get the inferior version compared to USA? That's racist

  • Still deciding whether to pull the trigger on this! My mind is telling me no, but my body…..

    • Same, the judder (if it's actually present) would be a deal breaker… Anyone know if this tv is any good, some reviews report screen judder.

  • Can I use Westfield xs card on eBay ?

  • Regret buying the 55" in the eBay deal

  • Anyone know if saturday delivery is possible with goodguys ebay store?

  • +1

Picked up one this arvo from tgg. Its awesome and its huge. 4k is way better. You can really tell the diffrence. I got 65 inch sony (850c) in the lounge and this samsung in my room. Its like a little cinema. Great deal.

    • so u reckon sony is better ?

      • I cant tell which brand is better. As long as 4k is concern, the better.

        • Sigh.. couldn't wait till boxing day , Just bought this one last min.

        • +1

@ash_G: I did the same thing haha! 11:55pm..

        • @yuni83:

Haha, I love how you waited until the very end and just caved in

        • +1

@montorola: ya , it was not easy as I was deciding weather to buy now or wait till boxing day
