They can handle general web browsing and streaming at 1080P without any problems.
Also get the z8300 cpu if you can afford it. Much better graphics and can decode x265 codec… which will become increasingly common in the future.
Are compute sticks still capable of being on / running when the TV or monitor they're plugged into is off? I need to buy the cheapest always on "server" that I can remote desktop into.
As long as they have dedicated power and aren't relying on the TV/monitor's USB port, then it should stay on until you turn it off, like a normal computer.
I believe they're powered by the microUSB port so it doesn't matter that the monitor isn't displaying the HDMI signal.
Yes, you can still remote them when they're not plugged into a screen.
Thanks OP, I got the email earlier, but deleted it without looking at it.
The compute stick for $89 is worth a crack, been contemplating for ages to get one to mess about with, for $89 including postage…it's hard to pass up on.
See comments here relating to the $89 stick (STCK1A32WFC):
Those 1st Gen Intel sticks have terrible reviews for performance, which will be why they are trying to clear them out - no one will buy them.
That $165 Intel stick is a better one but that isn't a bargain price, just OK.
Also, that Celeron NUC was $149 at Shopping Express during the Black Friday deals I think…
$169 is about the current average price for the NUC, I picked one up last weekend, great value.
However there should be a next-gen CPU replacement coming out any day now if you can hold out.
I've one question, If I want to buy NUC, Do I need to buy RAM and HDD separately?
Got an email from them today. Can't find it on the site for this price though.
