Great deal on this DSLR that only released a few months ago.
Price before the 20% off is already around the same or less than grey imports from Hong Kong.
Probably the perfect starter DSLR and has a very respectable dxomark sensor score of 86

I wasn't aware of this. Thanks.
I looked at this a few days ago but decided on getting d3300 for the above reasons and because tgg lens kit wasn't VR
Always a shame to see camera manufacturers seemingly deliberately crippling their entry level gear downgrading evf resolution, having fully articulated touch screen to no touch semi articulated, downgrading body construction quality, removing control dials or not updating to 4k video…stepping back only to add these features in subsequent models as upgrades. All manufactures seem to participate in this practice as we reach the point where entry level sensors are good enough for professional photography.
That said I would prefer to have a 70% improvement in battery life and wi-fi photo transfer than the lost features, and the d3300 is selling for around $500 new too.what about compact cameras? is dslr era coming to an end?
possibly, although this compares well to an a6000 at a fraction of the cost.
Also while mirorless is far more compact the lenses make up the majority of the bulk, if your shooting with a larger lens I'd say it would be more balanced on a dslr body. There are enough points of difference from dslr to mirorless that both will probably remain relevant.
I shoot mirorless but sometimes I think I might switch.
how does it rate in comparison to Canon 1300d? price of which is on par to this one
should be superior in most ways aside from lens selection
Nikon is superior in almost every way.
you can read about it here for instance
https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canon-eos-rebel-t6-1300d-re…"Among current entry-level DSLR offerings, the Canon T6's closest competitor is the Nikon D3300. The D3300 has an edge over the T6 in terms of sheer number of features, and its more modern sensor means that it's a better camera if you plan on shooting Raw. The D3300 also provides a couple more autofocus points, a battery rated to 700 shots (vs 500), smooth 1080/60p video (vs 1080/30p) and 5 fps burst shooting compared to the T6's 3 fps. But the T6 brings built-in Wi-Fi to the table while the D3300 needs an optional adapter. Personally I find it very hard to give up Wi-Fi, so that's a serious spec point worth considering against its closest entry-level DSLR peer."
Is that a Vr lens in the kit?
nope
If the d3300 is older but better, where can we get it around this price?
you can't right now although you may be able to find it cheaper used.
Wether it is actually better depends on if you find external mic, in built flash performance and sesnsor cleaning more important than 70% better battery, wi-fi photo transfer and improved sensor performanceFlash and external mic aren't an issue really, was mostly thinking of the sensor cleaning.
which one is better a buy ? Please only choose one of these :)
NEW Canon 1300DKB 1300D Single Lens Kit (18-55mm III lens) $ 488.00
or
NEW Nikon 791490 D3400 Single Lens Kit (18-55mm) $ 498.00
abm linked the review comparison further up the rebel T6 is the 1300d. The Nikkon is better.
Just keep in mind that this is objectively worse than the D3300 in a few ways. No external mic port, weaker flash and no ultrasonic sensor cleaning
Very disappointing cost cutting from Nikon.
