  • Cheap compared to $999 @ TGG.

*** whats the warranty like buying from Amazon
    *** crappy 2600 mah battery
*** does it support all aussie bands?

    • From Motorola:
      GSM / GPRS / EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
      UMTS / HSPA+ (850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100 MHz)
      4G LTE (B1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17, 20, 25, 28, 38, 40, 41)

      • So US has 2 version? the Moto Z Droid and Moto Z?
The Moto Z Droid doesn't support lte b28. But wondering if the US definitely does have 2 version? or only the Z Droid?

        • It has two. Verizon has the Z droid, all the other carrier have the Z.

        • @ilikeradiohead:

Not correct, there are two versions in the US. The Moto Z Droid (Moto Z without DualSim) and the Moto Z Force (larger battery, different camera, still not dual-sim).

The Moto Z Droid is the closest model to the Australian Moto Z.

        • +1

@CLoSeR: The Z force droid is a different phone. If you go on the Motorola USA website, you'll see that there are five different Z models.

My point is still correct. Verizon has the Droid, all other carriers have the Z. Verizon also has the Z force droid, and the Z play droid, and the Z play is available to other carriers.

        • @ilikeradiohead: I see what your saying, they still have the Moto Z and Moto Z Droid.

I'm looking for cases for the Moto Z on Amazon and I can only really find results for Moto Z Droid, not a lot for Moto Z.

Pretty sure they are both the same form factor and it's only the Moto Z Force cases which will not fit Australian Moto Z?

        • @CLoSeR: Both phones are 153.3 x 75.3 x 5.19mm so I think you can get droid cases for the regular Z. May want to double check though.

    • HN got it for $700 til early Dec

      • Not the Z. HN has the Z Play which is the mid ranger.

        • My bad

No headphone jack. No deal. At least until or unless no phone comes with one.

  • What is the advantage of this over the new Moto X Force, a bit cheaper locally, and 3.5mm socket?

64GB is nice, but with a SD slot, doesn't matter much. 4GB vs3GB RAM - might make a little difference with more boated software upgrades in future?
Better camera? Its got a laser!

    • dunno but I got my wife a X Force recently and it's pretty nifty. Great battery life, supposedly smash proof screen, and stock android.

    • 820 v 810.

      • And the Moto X will max out at Nougat but the Z will go another release of Android after that most probably.

    • Here is a specification comparison on GSM arena
      Essentially:

      • Slightly bigger screen (5.5 vs 5.4)
      • Different processor (820 vs 810)
      • Different screen glass (GG4 vs 'Shatterproof')
      • Ram (4gb vs 3gb)
      • Different Camera
      • USB C vs micro USB 2.0
      • Z has a fingerprint scanner

The no headphone jack might be an issue, although like the iPhone there is an adapter included in the box.

The X force has been around $480 recently, might be a better buy (although I think $680 is a good price for this phone). If I hadn't recently got a Moto X Style it'd be a toss up between them.

This should have been the Moto Y:

    Tiny battery, why?
    Motomods, why?
    No headphone jack, why?
    Ridiculous thinness, why?
    Came after Moto X, Y.

    I rest my case.

    • Tiny battery, why?

      To make it thinner.

      No headphone jack, why?

      See above.

      Ridiculous thinness, why?

      Because … ask Apple?
Motorola in a previous incarnation did well with thin phones, back when Apple had iPods with spinning hard drives.

    • The battery isn't much smaller than that of the Pixel and it lasts two days easily.

Android Nougat is really really great with battery life.

  • the moto style shells and some of the mods also seem decently priced on amazon.com!

bought a leather & nylon shell shipped for ~AU$55, whereas here they are $29 each + delivery & leather is not avialable from what I can see.

Good phone. Have been using this for a month now and haven't slowed down yet. The fingerprint sensor, while not a home button, wakes the device and locks the device without using the power button which is so handy. Only thing I hate is the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack. Battery life been okay for me so far.

  • Not bad, keep in mind that this version isn't dual-sim like the Australian model sold here.

Also missing is local warranty if that is something important to you.

  • Noooooooooooooooooooo

I just bought a Z play for $640 after the ebay deal from the Good guys

I don't want to see any post for at least 6 months of a cheap price (HEHE)

  • FYI $647 at office work

    • That's the Z Play, not the Z. Different phones. See this comment.
      It's also 32GB, not 64GB.

      • yea i know , I was going to get the Z but it was extra $300 now it the same price :(
