Part of their push to make people pay by credit with associated fees to be added later and remove the ability to pay with coins. World class city my ass.

And this private company takes a large share of the parking so this will justify the council to raise parking even more. Once this company has enough councils using it they'll make the premium fee mandatory for all.

Why can't the council have their own app and allow multiple payment options including gocard?

Wow, $10 off. From one of the worlds most expensive cities to park in.

You can park for 16 minutes in one of the 52 remaining on street car parks…..

I remember in the late 90's when it was easy to drive into the city and get on street parking close to where you wanted to go. Fast forward 16 years and the on street parking has halved and the costs increased tenfold.

Most large cities in Europe you can still drive in and find a cheap or free on street car park…..

Yep, I've lived in melb, London and Tokyo (and owned cars in each of those cities) and Brisbane parking is ridiculous.

        • was in New York a few months ago, downtown Manhattan is cheaper than brisbane. Yes, you can get on street parking.

      • Parking was a lot easier to find in Brisbane when fuel was $1.60+ a litre. I imagine if commuting was as expensive as in Europe it would be easier still.

Honestly though the meter parking isn't that bad (assuming you can ever find it). Off street parking is as much as $78 for 3 hours.

Commuting is generally cheaper in Europe, there is little congestion so less stop/start, parking is often free, the roads are better, fuel is not that different in price, tyres etc are cheaper, servicing is cheaper and so forth.

The problem is there is so little of it despite the constant growth from the CBD into surrounding suburbs. You could easily spend hours trying to find one.

That's why a lot of businesses and restaurants in Brisbane CBD are struggling. Look at Fortitude Valley in the fringe of the Brisbane CBD, its like a ghost town during the day, people don't go in there because of the ridiculous parking fees, restaurants and retails are closing down, replaced only by more bars and pubs. The upgrade of the mall there is an absolute waste of ratepayers money, how Brisbane City Council has the gall to waste more money by proposing to hold the Olympic here is beyond me.

    • Exactly. We used to go to the Port Office Hotel for dinner, but not since having to pay for meter parking AT NIGHT in brisbane cbd.!

    • With all the apartments going up around the CBD you might be better off buying one of those instead of paying for parking…

That's if it has a car park, many 1 bedroom don't have a car park and plenty of 2 and 3 bedroom have one car park. Another brilliant Brisbane City Council decision.

  • Will this app let you know if parking restrictions apply to your 'chosen' spot? The reason I ask, is that I recently got a parking fine for leaving the car in a 12P Friday 7pm - Monday 7pm parking bay…….only to later learn that it doesn't apply if there's an 'event' in the Suncorp - Brisbane Roar were playing…..I've seen bigger events in my underwear. The area was literally dead and traffic was absolutely minimal.

The council's reasons for knocking back my appeal was that I should have checked online……or brought my crystal ball.

  • $10 dollars will last for about 1 hour probably not even that Brisbane parking is one of the most expensive parking in the world

  • How to check if I have received the $10 credit?

    • Yeah, I'd also like to know. It's a really horrible app…

  • I've "accidentally" registered before December 1st and wonder if I still receive the credit? And how to check it? Terrible app

    • Yeah, I did as well. Just got a text today from them saying

Brisbane City Council is gifting $10 to your CellOPark account for Bne on-street parking. Exp 31 Mar 2017. T&Cs@ https://goo.gl/NGJT41

Although I don't see this anywhere on the terribly laid out app.
