Same price at Officeworks too http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/apple-tv-32… . Time to put in another price protection claim with Coles. Purchased mine for $269. Dropped to $239 so claimed $30. Dropped to $217 so will put in a claim for $22.

Can you do multiple claims on the same transaction?

      • I asked this and was told yes. I will confirm once it happens.

        • Thanks this is something I was curious about because on 28 degrees price protection I think it states you can only claim it once per item.

        • It was mentioned here on Whirlpool http://whrl.pl/Rc3D73

@Agret: Unless they've changed it, pretty sure that isn't their policy. I claimed with them three times on a tv bought in December - last claim in May.

        • @sabracad: My claim was approved today. Only took 1 business day. I can still see this falling further in price.

Bought one, barely use it… useless basically …

    • +5

I think you missed the bit where you say "…but YMMV."

      • +10

Got one during the first week that it was released and I still use it all the time!

It's great with plex, netflix and apple music… but it's annoying that there's no spotify app

thanks for such an informative review!

      • Anytime! Glad to be of service :D

        • +5

I don't think he was referring to yours. :)

      Free to good home?

Bought two, family and I use them all the time. Extremely useful. Infuse, Hulu, Netflix ……. the list goes on. Great device.

      • Hulu?
Do you need a VPN for that?

    • Well that's too bad, Urbion.. I happen to use it daily for music, games, movies, photos.

These things are great and well worth the money. Stream all the channel catch ups (ABC iView etc) Stan, Netflix, rent movies directly from apple (new one every week for 99c). Cast to your tv directly from your phone, watch YouTube / Vimeo from the native app, etc. Games are often cross platform if you're invested in the iOS world. There are also apps to stream directly from a folder on your laptop for digital media / tv series / movies you may have downloaded or acquired somehow legally i'm sure, these apps play all formats: mkv / mp4 / avi etc (plex / air video server HD. It doesn't store anything so dont bother paying the extra for the 64gb.

    • Tempted to maybe get one for the iOS / apple exclusives.

Already have a nvidia shield tab for android gaming.

How does this perform to say an iPad mini or iPad air etc?

      • +1

Games are ok, good for kids who come over to play. I prefer playing on iPad or PS4. Might be better if you invest in the proper controller rather than the remote. If I remember it has the same processor as iPhone 6 so it's fast.

        • +1

I wouldn't recommend it purely for gaming. But as a streaming machine it's fantastic.

        • @Bargearse:

Just considering my options I don't want to end up buying all of them have then not only using just one of them gah

double check with Telstra if you have your landline/internet with them . I was offered this for free yesterday if I locked in on a 12 month plan

    • Are you sure that's not the Telstra TV streaming player? They look similar in a way

      • +5

Yeah it's a Telstra TV (aka Roku), not an Apple TV.

Isn't it spend $300 to get the $100 Amex credit?

    • offer them $300 for it so you can save $17 :P

  • +1

Yes it is - I clubbed this with the $248 SONOS Play:1 to get the $100 off + $15 gift card

    • Did you get your confirmation for the $100 Amex credit?

  • Are Apple products allowed in the Harvey Norman deal?

    • No, the offer excludes apple products.

Excludes purchases of Miele, Falcon, NEFF, AEG, Gaggenau, ASKO, St George, Fagor, De Detrich, Elica & Apple products.

      • +1

It works. I used this Amex deal 3 weeks ago when I purchased the Apple TV 64gb.

  • The Apple TV is pretty limited isn't it? I thought the Xiaomi Mi Box was the popular choice these days.

    • +1

having used both, i have to say its the complete opposite. hardly any 'android tv' apps, where is apple tv seems to get all the big new apps

      • Fair enough, although I guess I don't know what I'm missing since I don't have an Apple TV, but I felt like app support was fine. The thing that sticks out for me on Apple TV is the inability to run Kodi (easily) and no 4k support.

    • +1

Nah there are plenty of apps to stream shows or movies, or play them off your network.

Apparently you can even side load popcorn time or Kodi if you have a mac (using developer tools Xcode).

      • +2

or just get the app 'mrmc" which is kodi with a few skins

        • +1

slight downside is that that version can't install any add-ons

        • Thanks for letting me know about this app. I can't believe it's been out for a year and I didn't find it.

  • It Was cheaper with 20% off tech eBay deal from futu online

  • It''s $1.90 cheaper at $215.10 through HN Business and Education via cashrewards. :)

  • Just bought from JB price-matched after showing them HN webpage - Apple TV 4th Gen is awesome - I use it almost daily for Air Video HD (streaming movies/TV shows from my Mac). Appstore is getting bigger and you can use game controllers with it too.

  • Im looking for something tbat has netflix. Stan. Hulu. Hbo all in one place. Will this do it without having to chamge accounts each time? Realise still need vpn. Can this be loaded through setting somewhere?

    Cheers

    • Yes

  • Thanks OP. Price matched at The Good Guys so I could use my $25 newsletter credit.
Should make an ideal Christmas present for the old folks. Dad can watch his nrl games through Livestream and Mum can watch catch up tv. Saves getting fox!

    • Does Livestream do epl?

      • Unfortunately not.
Though not a super user friendly option as livestream, if you haven't already, search reddit for what you desire.

  • Off topic, I left the Harvey Norman page open for a little and it came up with the following in their chat support:

Hello Ozbargainer - Need any advice, talk to a expert now.

    They are on to us!!

  • I know the guidelines says that the Amex deal doesn't cover Apple or giftcards. But Can I ask if anyone has gotten both on the Amex deal?
I was thinking of getting this and a $100 iTunes card to get me over the $300 mark.

    • I got this and a SONOS Play:1 to get me over $300, got the $100 credit 2 days later . .

      • Thanks,
I have been looking for something else to go with it to get over the $300 mark and iTunes is the only thing I need but they say No Gift Cards. Might pull the trigger and see how I go. Thanks for replying.
