Interesting, since IMAX Sydney is closed until 2019.

Maybe its 5 years validity ticket?

imma gonna put it down to see KILLARY - The Biopic

Funny when the listing on Groupon clearly says imax Melbourne

      Sydney… Melbourne… So easy to confuse the 2 :P

    • closed until 2019.

And when you eagerly dust off the ticket to use it 25 months later, "ticket is invalid, contact Groupon please" rofl

  • many IMAX are in 3D, what extra surcharge they will charge? may be better off getting Entertainment BOGOF for $16 regardless 3D or not.

    • Imax no surcharge for 3d

  • If you're in Brisbane, chances are you're already watching movies for only $6.5 anyway, or $8.5 tops for weekend/night screening.

    • But do you get laser projection and 15000 watts of sound!!!

Some movies are worth the extra dollar to go see at IMAX

The Southbank Cineplax linked above used to be an IMAX theatre, still has the giant screen :P

Doesn't show movies in IMAX format though.

It used to still be pretty good though, especially for $6.50. Unfortunately, it's gone downhill in the past few years. The screen has giant marks on it that are visible during the movie, the sound system has gotten really bad, plus sound bleeds through from the arcade below during quiet scenes.

I was excited for the imax melb since they never have decent sales. then I read the fine print…
    • Not valid for feature length films on No Free Tickets ('NFT') list at IMAX Melbourne only
    • Surcharges apply for 3D sessions and films containing sequences shot with IMAX cameras (2D & 3D) at IMAX Melbourne only
    • Australian Movie Voucher e-Ticket must be legibly printed on paper in its entirety and surrendered at the box office
    • Cannot be used to book sessions online

So.. your looking at $5+ extra for the 3d and "imax filmed scenes", you'll have to wait afew weeks after release to see the big films due to 'NFT' and have to print - on that paper stuff, really?

    • Yep, agree. While worth a + vote, there are more conditions/exclusions than a Myer 'Up to 50% off storewide*' sale. Too many barriers to make it a viable purchase.

      • Not really, only the code brings it down to a reasonable level

5x tickets through the site directly comes out to $14.70 each inc postage - same conditions as Groupon's but a 12 month expiry

Or $15.40 each here with free shipping (cheaper going through the above link, but both still cheaper than Groupon's 'deal')

          Groupon deal is more convenient

5x tickets through the site directly

You still need to buy a bulk lot to get that deal

Or $15.40 each here(theboxoffice.com.au) with free shipping

They won't be responsible if lost in post and you need to wait around 1 week to receive them going by current postage times

          @easternculture:

You still need to buy a bulk lot to get that deal

I clearly wrote 5… Easy to use over 12 months.

you need to wait around 1 week to receive them going by current postage times

That's fine, need to wait till the movie is 2 weeks old anyway ;)

          Any other excuses?

        • @Spackbace:

          5 is a bulk lot.

No other excuses . How about you , any other excuses to try and make my deal look bad

          make my deal look bad

Don't really need to, there's enough people pointing out the flaws :)

Surcharges apply for 3D sessions and films containing sequences shot with IMAX cameras (2D & 3D) at IMAX Melbourne only

no surcharge according to this comment

Can anyone please confirm how much will be the imax surcharge for 3D movie tickets?

    • Sorry it seems that Imax Melbourne do have a surcharge for 3d movies….nuts

Only catch is that you need to wait 10 days for new movies which has "no free listing"

      • I know, but I can't find any information on the amount of surcharge :(

  • +1

Just been to iMax, They did not charge any surcharge for my tickets!!

  • +1

Not as big a saving as when IMAX Syd was still open, but it's the best deal there's been for a while on Melb movie tix.
You're saving $12.50 for IMAX MELB tickets (normally $28).
Apparently with Syd closed, IMAX Melb has done a Bradbury & is now the BIGGEST SCREEN in the world!!

  • Stay away from groupon! I am still waiting for their ebay voucher to "become active" when you contact them they just pass the can and make you wait.

  • "Can not be used to book tickets online."
