Motorola Moto G4 Plus 3GB/32GB $329.83, ASUS Zenfone 3 ZE520KL 3GB/32GB $329.83, Nexus 5X 32GB $340 Delivered (HK) @ DWI Digital

530
ANNIVERSARY16

Picked these out of DWI's 'up to' 30% off retail price sale, combined with $15 off code ANNIVERSARY16 (thanks hughesey) gives some decent prices on these handsets.

Prices are inclusive of the 1.8% credit card surcharge and include free delivery. Note that these are grey import, shipped from HK with 1 year warranty.

Motorola Moto G4 Plus XT1642 4G 32GB Dual Sim (Unlocked) $329.83 Delivered

5.5" screen. 32GB, 3GB RAM (Note the cheaper 16GB version also comes with only 2GB RAM). Note that the dual sim is 4G/3G. Black is available for $10 extra. See previous deals for discussion.

A good alternative to the LG Nexus 5X, especially in this deal when it's cheaper & has 1GB extra RAM. Compared to the LG Nexus 5X: It's a newer model Motorola phone, has dual sim (4G/3G), SD card slot, 1GB extra RAM, slightly better battery life (reported) & a higher megapixel camera. However the Nexus 5X has NFC and previous comments suggest a better processor. Thanks erland & Ausdroid review. If you need NFC get the Nexus 5x or look elsewhere.

ASUS ZenFone 3 4G 32GB Dual SIM 5.2" ZE520KL (Unlocked) $329.83 Delivered Price increase

5.2" screen. 32GB, 3GB RAM. USB Type-C but no NFC. Appears to have band 28 / 700MHz support. Comes in black, white is available for $20 extra. See previous deal for more info.

Google Nexus 5X 4G 32GB H791 (Unlocked) $340.01 Delivered Expired

5.2" Screen. 32GB, 2GB RAM. USB Type-C & NFC. Comes with all Australian bands. See the many previous deals for discussion.

Not the cheapest for this, but the best we've seen in a while since the eBay deals so added it in here for those eager to grab one of these.

This is part of Click Frenzy deals for 2016

I thought Moto g4 plus was standby dual sim.
Anyone can confirm whether they come as active dual sim?

    • +3

Active dual 3G/4G. I'm using it at the moment. Very good phone.

    • +3

Can confirm dual active. very good implementation of dual sim handset. i use mine for personal Telstra service and work Optus. Can turn the Optus slot off after hours, pick what to reply with on a per call/sms basis. Preference for mobile data. Have been very happy.

    • It is a dual sim 4G-3G handset and it is dual standby, not dual active. I think there is some misunderstanding out there of the terms.

Dual Standby means both sims are active, calls can be received on either SIM.

However, as it is dual standby I cannot receive a call on SIM2 if I am on a call on SIM1. Now, in saying that you can able to set voice priority on SIM2 which is on by default which means the data connection on SIM1 is stopped if active so you can receive a call on SIM2.

It all works quite seamlessly, I own the Moto G4 Plus.

  • Anyone had bad experiences with DWI?

    • I've read a few bad ones on here. Brand new phones DOA, no willing to replace but insisting on repair.

Then again some people have no issue with them. TBH I'd stick to a local retailer and pay a bit more so warranty isn't an issue.

'Brand new phones DOA, no willing to replace but insisting on repair.'

Same thing happened when i got a previous model Moto G from Good Guys online.

I was made to feel about as popular as a turd in a swimming pool when i took in my new faulty phone that i had picked up from store after online purchase. I asked the guy why he was being so unhelpful and he replied that if i had bought the phone in store and he had made a commission on it, he would be easier to get along with. : / I immediately made it known i didn't like him. ; )

The phone was sent away for repair and a complete new phone arrived about 3 weeks later.

        • +3

WTF? Should threaten them with a complaint with CAV and see how helpful he is then.

        • +3

          @ironpaw:

I made a very civil written complaint (email) about his attitude, to the store, and didn't get a reply.

When i returned to the store to pick up the new phone, i told the girl on the front counter that i wouldn't be buying from them again, because of the sales mans attitude. She told me no one likes 'The Russian' and they weren't all like him.

Seems the boss doesn't have a problem with him though.

      • +1

Ah yeh that was me, if you check their eBay comments you can see lots of issues with the Nexus 5. There are a couple of other OzBr's with Nexus 5 issues from DWI.

I didn't neg them on eBay, as I had escalated the case and refunded through ebay. They are a grey importer, all the Australian support is BS…..your risk…I felt tricked by all the local support crap, they even had an Aussie flag on their .com.au
Not worth the seven weeks to get my cash back.
        Happy shopping

    • Plenty.

  • god its between the G4 and the woolies R9 deal for me (need a plan for my business and a phone)

    • The R9 Plus is a step up and usually more expensive. 64GB/4GB RAM vs 32GB/3GB RAM. That Woolies deal is a good value deal for sure.

If you are happy to be in a contract and don't care about dual sim (the R9 Plus is only 2G) or having the latest Android then the R9 Plus is a more powerful phone on paper although the G4 Plus certainly does the job. If you are looking for something outright/flexible and want to use the dual sim then G4 Plus or something else might be better, Nexus 5X is good to but with only 2GB of RAM I wouldn't get it myself unless it was below $300.

Uh, but Moto is running Pure droid. The closest thing you can get to a nexus that isn't a nexus. Also Moto provide good support and updates regularly. You'd probably be surprised how much ram you really need on phones not running horrible bloated versions of Android, like Samsung's and lgs.

        • +3

Yeah good point about the RAM usage, well I would choose the Moto G4 Plus myself because I want clean Android with updates (which is why Xiaomi's don't interest me), but was trying to remain impartial as I understand not everyone is so concerned about that. The Oppo's OS is pretty good from what I read despite being 5.1. The Oppo also has good reviews.

        • @hamza23: couldn't you always run CM on the Xiaomi devices? Bit of a pain but they're so cheap

  • Yes it is a dual sim phone. Unfortunately I bought mine yesterday at The Good Guys for $379.00

    • Unfortunate that TGG only sell the 16GB/2GB RAM version, I don't think this 32GB/3GB RAM version is available here in any stores. Mobileciti have had some deals for it at times though for Aus stock.

      • 3/32 version is available from Motorola Online store.

  • Mobilciti had it on the website for around $353.00 I think.

    • That's the 16GB/2GB version (same as what TGG sell).

The version in this deal is 32GB/3GB which is $399 at Mobileciti, albeit sold out.

  • +1

Use the code ANNIVERSARY16 to get $15 off $300 purchase instead of just $10 :).

    • +1

Thanks! Thought that had expired, updated the deal.

  • Note that the dual sim is 4G/3G.

What's the significance of this? (I have a Moto G2, love it, but I'm wondering if I should upgrade).

    Comes with all Australian bands.

Is the Moto G4 phone suitable for travel in USA/Europe? (Or is the Nexus 5X a better choice? I never understood all the "bands"!)

    • +1

Basically a big deal for internet speed and coverage. Some countries use different bands (signals) and if ur phone doesn't have them it can't use internets!

  • good deal, but the G4 doesnt have NFC doesnt it?

    • +1

No NFC on the G4 Plus, that's correct.

  • Question here: Does DWI provide a tax receipt/invoice?

    • No. It's Grey import.

      • Ah thanks. Looks like cant claim it from tax then. Or can you…?

        • You can't

  • Woke up to my nexus5x smoking and the cable melted in to the phone this morning.

Guess its time to buy another new one while I wait and see if spontaneous combustion is covered on warranty.

    • You sure it wasn't a Samsung Note 7?

      • +2

        http://imgur.com/a/YkhDW

        Nope it was a nexus5x..

I was too cheap to go the full blown exploding phone had to settle for smoking one.

        • I was just kidding :)

    • +1

Woke up to my nexus5x smoking and the cable melted in to the phone this morning.

Didn't you tell it that would be bad for its health?

What cable were you charging it with?

  • Moto G4 Plus or a Redmi Note 3 Pro ($220 off ebay)?
The 3g/4g sim has me thinking.

Can't afford to wait 6 weeks to get a Redmi from china so will be paying a premium unfortunately.

    • +2

Moto G4 Plus is a lot cleaner from a software point as it runs almost stock android.

  • +1

Site is down… sigh been hugged to death I think!

    • Looks like they are listed on Click Frenzy, would explain why the site went slow/down from 7pm. I had no idea they were listed on there.

  • Site is still down..FAIL!!.

  • Motorola are the worst for updates. Just beware.

    www.computerworld.com/article/3052937/android/android-upgradā€¦

    • +1

No worse than Samsung or Sony, it's only really LG that have been quick with updates to flagships.

Nougat is currently under soak test in Brazil for the Moto G4 Plus and reports are saying it will be available here in December. If it's released before Christmas Moto are ahead of Samsung, Sony and anyone else for Nougat.

      Not so bad after all.

    • moto g4 plus already has nougat released, samsung and LG and HTC are all lagging behind. LOL

  • Site working again now but still very slow.

  • Would these qualify for the Amex $30 off purchases over $60? Seems to be part of the Click Frenzy but not sure

    • +2

No this doesn't qualify, it's only certain retailers part of that AmEx offer.

See here, the 30 or so retailers listed there.

  • I need three cheap handsets for kids for Christmas present - was considering the OPPO F1s (can get for around $290 - Australian stock) - as I know nothing about Android phones, would the Nexus 5X/Motorola be a better buy? Or would I be better staying with the OPPO? I went with them as the interface was very iOS looking (and kids wanted an iPhone)… Thanks

    • +1

I think this comment will help you, for the kids they would be fine with OPPO F1s and you can get Aus stock for a lower price. As mentioned there the Nexus 5X is a bit overpriced at the moment.

      • Thank you. Do you think the Motorola would be a good option? I see that OPPO doesn't generally offer many software updates.

        • +1

I would pick the Motorola for myself, just because it's close to pure android and also will get software updates and that's something I want. However it is more expensive and if your kids don't care about having pure/latest android then it will work perfectly fine without it for years, which was why the OPPO might be better for your situation. All the apps will still run on the OPPO, you just won't have all the features the latest Android offers - PPO however does have some of their own features on their version of Android and as you say it does have an iPhone type interface which they may prefer. Some more comments on that here

No AU stock deals on the Motorola atm, this DWI deal is a good price but if you have issues warranty can be slower/more of a hassle than AU stock. If there was an AU deal for the Moto G4 Plus 32GB you are looking at around $370 going by past deals for AU stock, so it's a fair difference.

        • @hamza23: Thank you for your help. The kids aren't 'mine', I am looking for my sister who has no idea when it comes to technology. She had a budget of around $350-$400 per phone, so the Motorola would be within her budget. I'll give her the two options and a link to this thread and let her make the final decision. Thanks again.

  • What's it like using an adapter to charge it all the time?

    • For the wall charger? You forget it's even there. It's just a bit bulkier at the powerpoint.

I only use the wall charger overnight, during the day charge by USB cable to computer or car charger if need be.

  • @OP How did you get $329.83 for the G4 Plus? For some reason when I check out (standard free delivery) it says Sub Total $356.55 (incl $11.55 for paypal which works out to be about 3.3%) and the less $15 for the code = $341.55. A box at the bottom says paypal surcharge is 3.5%.

    • They've increased the price from $339 to $345 before discount/surcharge.

Also I was going by 1.8% surcharge, however that is only for credit card below $600, not PayPal. See here. My mistake sorry.

Did you want black or white? I got an email from eGlobal and it might work out cheaper there, let me just check it out and mess around with codes.

    • Okay here is a better deal from eGlobal for both black and white (same company):

They emailed out a FRENZY 2% off code but the BLACKFRI gives 3% off but it expires at midnight tonight I think.

      Subtotal:$319.00
      Shipping cost:$25.00
      Order discount:$9.57
      Coupon "BLACKFRI" Delete
      Order Total:$334.43

      Product link

      • Wow thanks for the fast reply.but I tried the BLACKFRI code at checkout but it didn't apply any discount. just refreshed the page so $344. Tried in both the discount code and the gift code boxes

        • Sorry I forgot to mention you need to be logged in for that code to apply, it's for 'existing members' but you should be able to just sign up and apply it or login if you already have an account.

Worst case scenario FRENZY gives 2% off.

        • Thanks again mate. Unfortunately code still didn't work after signing in. Just purchased anyway for $10 more. Failed at Ozbargain.
