Sony MDRZX110NC Noise Cancelling Headphones (Black) @ Catch of The Day: $39.2 Plus Shipping* (Pay with MasterPass)

90

Was looking for reasonable but affordable noise cancelling headphones last week and thought the JB deal for these was pretty good at $89 (normal price is $129). So bought them.

Then had a flick through COTD 10% off (w/special thanks to doweyy) and see them for $49 (plus $9.95 standard shipping).

Bought a pair for the wife, 10% discount down to $44.10 then signed up for Club Catch 30 day trial for free shipping over $50. Get a further 10% off, which brings it down to $39.20. You can add anything but I bought a cheap double headphone set up for the kids same price as shipping - winning!

These aren't Bose or Beats but still work pretty good for the price!!

  • Are these decent noise cancellers, or just decent headphones? (or neither)

I used them on a plane and they are decent noise cancellation and boost the volume and bass too. However they are only good once powered. Using them passively sucks.

Nice, might give em a spin. Need to impulse buy to stave off election-induced anxiety.

Can confirm they are quite good - I use it on the plane and for work (at office environment) - definitely can filter out b*tches' loud pitch voices

Do you work in a brothel by any chance?

  • I bought these and whilst the noise cancelling works quite well, when it is windy, the noise cancelling gets crazy and makes heaps of noise to the point where you cant hear the music.
Also the sound quality is quite bad. My xiaomi piston 3 earphones had a much better sound quality. Overall disappointed with the headphones

    • It's like when your on the phone to someone who is out in a wind storm isn't it.

  • How do you get the second 10% off?

    • Select maaterpass as payment method.

      • Thanks! I thought OP was referring to something else though, since even he was not aware of the Masterpass one.

We got two for $99 at the start of the year, HN Price matching DS. The noise cancelling works alright on planes, trams, trains. Battery life is good.

Like worrierwan said if it's windy they're no good. It's like the wind is picked up in a microphone and amplified on top of the music, when it's windy I just turn the NC off and bump up the volume 2 clicks.

If you get them on sale they're a great value on ear active NC set. They do the job for me but I'm still well jealous of my house mate's top range Sennheiser over ear ones, when you flick the switch on them it's insane

  • how big are they? I'm looking for a pair to use at the gym and I got a house of marley one the TTR:pulse.. its enormous… I can't use it haha..

  • I bought a pair when I was in desperate need of a set for an US-AU flight, when my previous NC's broke the day before I left. They worked really well, especially considering the price. Of course not as good as say a more expensive Sony or Bose etc, but well worth it for the money. I was a bit concerned that their on-ear nature would be painful, as I don't like on-ear phones generally, but these were comfortable for the entire 13 hrs of the flight.

  • Bought the $40 ALDI pair for my dad to use on planes, returning them 'cus I just ordered these for my dad, thanks OP

    • Why? Aldi's ones get excellent reviews, are more solid, come with a nice travel case and are $40 with no shipping costs. I have a family of 5 and up-coming international flights. Bought 3 of the Sony's a couple of weeks ago. Tried them out on the bus. Managed to get 2 of the Aldi ones today after trying at 3 stores that sold out yesterda. Will try them out on the bus tomorrow - but they are certainly much more solid than the Sony's and based on the reviews and just trying them out at home, I'm guessing they'll be better.

      • Hmm I went by the comments in the thread about the ALDI ones, I haven't returned them yet. I'll get him to try both and keep the ones he likes more.

        • I went with these reviews. http://www.productreview.com.au/p/bauhn-noise-cancelling/2.h… It seems they had them around July - maybe bluetooth ones (?) (these aren't and I don't care as will only really be using on flights) - so different people may be reviewing different versions of Aldi NC headphones (?). They seem good to me. Definitely keeping them. I expect they'll block out a good deal of the plane engine noise. Also note - they are over ear whereas Sony's are on ear.

  • Update: deal was still on (minus the above 10% special). Got set from catch of the day and took it unopened straight to jb hi fi and returned against original docket. $89 refund and bought 2nd pair from catch again for under $50 shipped with 2 boxes of cheerios applying masterpass 10%.
Wife says I need to get off ozbargain now… costing us too much (but we are saving is my argument!!)
