    Wow, that's amazing!

  • Unable to book - expired

    • I just went all the way to payment with Bestjet. Still working.

      • +1

I just tried booking - it seems all the cheap flight deals have expired

        • +1

Still working. Tried Sydney using STA

        • @ozlab: Same here. Thanks for confirming.

        • @ozlab:

Did you actually book? I can find sites with cheap fares but when you book it says price has changed.

        • @matt_will_fix_it: Sorry this might be too late. Yes I did book the flight through Virgin website directly. It's a bit higher than OP.

  • No good.

    • Agree - the search returns the cheap fares, but when you actually book it comes up with an error.

  • +1

Ok I lied I ended up booking it via budget air let's see if they cancel it.

    • Thanks for confirming.

    • Oh god, not Budget Air. Those people are frigging terrible

      • +1

lol please elaborate ? I'm scared.

        • +1

As long as you don't need to make any changes, i'm sure you'll be fine.

I had to make a reasonably last minute change for domestic flights, so i contacted them. Firstly they dno't have any phone number, only email. And they're based in Europe somewhere (though I'm pretty sure all names were Indian). They were helpful and said there was a fee (airline change fee + their own change fee, which was expensive) then what flights did I want. i replied with that information. A day passed, then they emailed (different person) to ask for my previous booking details. Which i replied with. They then replied to ask what flights I wanted. Now i realised what was going on, i replied with all my information. They then replied (different person) asking for my previous booking, so I had to reply and say "IT'S ON THE PREVIOUS EMAIL!!!!" and then in my anger I forgot to re(-re-re-)attach the details. So i got into this goddamn game of email tennis. When they finally worked it all out, it was too late and they (different person) tried to reneg on my original flights. They then asked me to contact their phone service, and noone ever answered. Can't do anything really, because they're overseas based and i can't even attempt Small Claims Court etc. So i was out for about $800 worth of flights

All that was to save maybe $50 instead of just booking with Emirates, and I could have made the change online in literally 15 seconds. Instead it took 7 days (no joke) to those clowns

        • Have a look for "budgetair" and "trip advisor" and there's literally pages of horror stories

        • @jellykingdom: Lol I haven't received any booking confirmation yet. Worst case scenario you get the CC company to initiate charge back surely ?

I want these flights though :'(.

        • @Duram: Tricky to get a chargeback when i'm the one who didn't show up for the flights. There was no fraud per se

I don't think there's any concern re being totally screwed over or ripped off. I was just super pissy because my request was made extremely clear (and with plenty of time to make the change) and they were just incompetent. More a reflection on their call centre staff than anything else

        • @jellykingdom:Ahh ok no worries, cheers for the replies good sir.

  • Guys, try using AuntBetty.com.au it's part of Flight Center group - if you have any issues you have local support in AU.
    Just booked SYD-OSAKA 1st Feb - 15th Feb for $590 with them.

    • Attempt at SYD-FCO bombed out for me after payment.

  • anyone have any luck?

    • I got Sydney to Paris. Wanted to stay longer(10 weeks) so paid $833 with Virgin (Singapore Airlines ) very happy

    Please, some Barcelona flights TA!

  • travel madness

  • Hey OP, I think all those fares are now sold out. I managed to book in on the 10th Feb, our on the 4th Mar for $740! 10 minutes before I booked it was $640… :/ Checked this morning and they are back up to normal prices.

    Thanks for the post though!

    • How to take insurance, did you add insurance on it.

  • madness!
but in Feb/March it would be very cold in Rome I assume?

    • Still in the 20s :)

      • Sorry, it really isn't.

That period is cold. Been to Rome many times.

        • I was there in January 2016, it was around 15-20 during the day. If that's too cold, Naples and the Amalfi coast will be already 25 degrees and sunny by then!

    • Yes, it is quite cold.

  • Too bad no business deals

  • Looks like Virgin are onto it. No longer available :(

    • Hobart-Rome is still there via STA.

  • +1

I booked a Paris flight with this Singapore Airlines deal, using IWTF via "eDreams"… I have no idea what is going on! A few emails from eDreams saying "confirmed", but doesn't look very definite

(Compared to other flights I just booked for the same deal (but to China) via "Expedia"… I have proper ticket numbers, TXT confirmations, I could choose my seats… much better!)

So yeah, I'd suggest avoid eDreams!

    • +2

I've gotten China and Korea with STA and Expedia no problems. Mate booked eDreams but haven't received confirmation yet, just 'Pending'. Any update for you?

      • Me, I never had "Pending", they emailed "Confirmed" right away (I booked last night).

I just rang Virgin Australia and they said my flights are confirmed, but I had to contact Singapore Airlines to book seats etc. So I rang SA and they also confirmed, but told me to contact Virgin! The old runaround!

I couldn't log into either website to "Manage Bookings"… and yep, on the phone each company told me I need to use the other companies website!!

SA did add our FF numbers. So yeah, I think the flights are there…? But I wish I could just login somewhere and get seats together…

        • +1

That sounds like a VA/SQ problem. When booking SQ flights on a VA ticket they've always had problems. There's something weird with the VA/SQ partnership and they don't seem to communicate very well, not sure why this is. I'm a VA Platinum and have a few problems with them over the past year.

        • +1

I am interested in this as well - I can log onto Virgin website and can see my booking there, but I am not able to manage it or do anything with it.

Is there any way to find out the SA booking number and try their website instead?

        • @Loki556: I've managed to log into Virgin (using my FF number) and all the bookings are there and I now have the Virgin booking ref numbers, but still can't work out SA… I've tried all the various booking/eticket numbers/codes, no success!

        • @nuchalis:

I just hope there is a way to choose seats, which doesn't seem to work via Virgin site.

        • @Loki556: So far it doesn't seem possible, they seem to indicate you do it when you check-in (ie the day before your flight maybe.)

I've flown a billion times, but can't remember what the usual deal with seats is! My dumb old brain is failing me. I think last longhaul I paid $25 per person to preselect seats, but I forget. Nonetheless, always managed to get seats together by doing online checkin as soon as it opens, so no worries, just worth a shot :)

        • @Loki556: Same. Booked Adelaide-Paris last night to travel in Feb, and could only book the seats for the domestic components to Perth. Really wanna lock in my RHS window seat!

    • +1

Edreams is known for this sort of practice, the company doesn't buy your ticket right after your payment. In fact, Edreams is waiting for a ticket that will be the cheapest for the seller so it can take days or weeks if it's really cheap, that is why the price is often lower than Expedia's.

      • Yes, the reviews for eDreams were terrible, but those sort of review sites are often just entirely bad experiences, I guessed maybe it'd be possible to work it out… and yeah, wanted that cheap flight! I think it's going OK, but it's wasting my time and should be clearer. I much prefer the Expedia simplicity…

        • +1

I also booked through EDReams and the booking reference number wasn't working on Virgin. You can solve it like this:

Call up Virgin and give them your VA ETKT number (in the email) and they will give you the correct Virgin booking reference number (6 letters no numbers) and then you will be able to see all of your details on Virgin "My Bookings" and it's confirmed booking

The booking number provided by EDreams is correct but is actually the booking reference number for Singapore Airlines (6 characters letters and numbers). The issue is Virgin <—> Singapore don't seem to have their communication done very well so it doens't work on Singapore Airlines. But as long as it's in Virgin you are good

        • @cyrax83: Nice, thanks! yeah, I've since got into the Virgin website and all my flights are there :)

I'm still working on being able to select seats: Expedia (China) let me "select" flights straight from Expedia, but I suspect they are just making a request, as in the Virgin site all my flights say "No seat selected".

Virgin web-bookings/phone tells me it's not possible, and that you do it on check-in… I can't even pay, a shame as I don't want to take the chance to fly long-haul and not be with my wife! (That said, for only $600 I'd fly on different planes!)

          Getting there :)

  • Any deals to Madrid tightarse?

    • or barcelona?

Virgin IT guys have now arrived at work and have fixed the error. Hope nobody gets fired.

Wow…just wow. These are remarkable prices!

  • Always best to go to Rome in the Low season.

The temperature may still be in the 20s, but it is very cold.

    • Cold.. relative to 30 degrees?
Wtf, even 0 degrees isn't that cold with the right jacket on.

      • I found the breaze in Rome just bites into your skin (I went early Jan). It did a number on my lips, so don't forget the blistex.

  • :( Y NO Canada/west coast US sales

    • +1

Exactly, Looking for USA, LA or NY would be great!

      • Agreed, I gotta get to Vegas for Sept/October/November.

So many cheap flights! 2017 is going to be a great year :)

  • bugger wanna go during aug sept

    • Never go to Italy between June and August, it's horrible.

      Hot. Crowded. Overpriced.

Best times are any other month of the year, southern Italy in winter is amazing and cheap as Bangkok!

      • How is it during mid march?

        • I went very early June, not too bad.

        • Last time I was in Italy in March it was perfect - great mid 20's weather.

        • Perfect :) spring time and not too many tourists yet

  • Damn I actually needed to go to Rome, but I couldn't find Perth to Rome flights last night in September. So I booked to Paris instead.

    • yup me too 😭 have a cruise from genoa in end of feb. omigod.. had to wait for my friends to wake up n tell me their full names. devastated!!

  • does anyone know how to get these ? I select the dates which had the cheap prices next to it but when it processes it - it comes up with 1000+ as costs.

    • It's sold out already. Also wotif and expedia both seem to be ozbargained already very slow.

  • Looks like the party is over and they fixed the price. I hope not getting cancellation.

    • I'll cry.

I keep refreshing my email for one of two scenarios 1: waiting for my original confirmation (still hasn't come through) 2: waiting for a cancellation email.

  • +7

Virgin announced that they sold accidentally. They will honour for lucky customers.
    http://www.businessinsider.com.au/virgin-australia-accidenta…

    • +1

it’s believed Virgin Australia will honour the tickets of the lucky few who managed to book flights at the absurd prices.

Believed by whom, based on what evidence? It seems Virgin didn't actually say they'd honour the tickets.

      • We'll wait and see. But better to think positively in the meanwhile rather than worrying.

  • +2

I've had a few of these price errors, as the fares are in the 100's of dollars think you are good for them to be honoured. Think the prices are on the right side of being legitimate and not at peak times so not much value in pissing everyone off.

  • Just got the following from the agency I booked with:

Please note due to an error occurred from Virgin Australia Airline they have published invalid fare in the system which is not available for ticketing and as we have received many bookings for these incorrect fare flights to Europe , we have clarified with them and they have confirmed that it’s not valid anymore for ticketing. Alternatively they suggest to rebook for Singapore airlines code shared flight which price is double from the original booking value.

They suggest either refund or pay more for alternative tickets. Hmm, does not look good.

    • +1

Which agency did you book with, & at what time?

    • +1

What agency? what was the itinerary?

EDIT: Did u receive a ticket confirmation with virgin booking iD?

    • +1

Was your tickets confirmed with Virgin, i.e. did you have a Virgin booking number?

Who did you book with? I guess we'll find out what happens soon enough.

      • -1

no offence to you or anyone, but people have to start reading and understanding what the article is saying.

The honoured part is coming from the mouth of the author, no VA spokesperson has said this at all.
I hope it's honoured, but linking that article in a few different threads and stating it's being honoured is false hope.

  • +1

The agency is directflights.com.au. I got email from them with my booking details at about 9:30am.

I've called VA and tried to get some explanations from them. However, the only thing they are suggesting is to contact the travel agency I booked with.

Have any of you guys got an email with ticket numbers and everything?

    • wow, you got that email quite early! what time did you book? In my opinion at around 8.30-10.30 was peak period with people posting different deals etc, and i think it's around that time certain flights started getting fixed.

i can't speak for everyone, but i'm pretty sure 90% of people (myself included) got the confirmation email along with the e-ticket. The ticket has the virgin airline reference code, which you can enter on the virgin airline website and manage your booking.

Edit: That honestly sucks though, did you just see the cancelation email from 9.30am recently? I would have tried to book again with a different website, because at that time there were still heaps of flights going around

      • +1

I did book at around 9:30am. I got the cancellation email at about 5:30pm. Not really sure why it took them 9 hrs to figure out that they cannot ticket my booking. Most likely they hold off ticketing until late in the day when those fares were no longer available. Had I received the cancellation email in the morning I'd have re-booked with a different travel agency.

Moral of the story - don't rely on travel agencies ticketing your booking immediately and use the travel agencies you trust can do this properly. Alternatively, to be on a safer side book with airlines direct whenever possible.

        • It also depends on which travel agent. Many large travel agents process the ticketing almost instantly in automated way.

    • +1

I booked through 'cheapOair' at about 6am Sydney time.

Received booking confirmation immediately, & received a 'paper ticket number' about 2 hours later.

I can choose my seat on the domestic leg run by Virgin, but not on the SQ flights, which i believe is par for the course on any SQ flight booked via VA.

  • Thanks for all the posts last night….this morning finally booked HBA-MEL-SIN-PVG (Shanghai) for $402 return inclusive of all charges (on AMEX).

This was after consideration of Paris, South Africa and KL. Would actually have been South Africa for $800 return if flights had not disappeared between checking dates :)

Did this on the Virgin site directly as I didn't want the bigger possibility of third-party site cancellations. Hopefully have a stronger chance of it being honored with VA….they are sitting in my velocity account and seats have been assigned :)

  • +4

Not that anyone cares but budgetair just sent me an email saying they are cancelling it I'm guessing it's because they only tried to actually book it now and the prices are gone. Why does I want that flight allow back yard two dollar websites to process sales.
