Seoul $269 - $285 Return: Virgin/SQ: Feb-Mar 2017@ IWTF

1570

Jumping on the crazy cheap airfare bandwagon, I noticed return flights to Seoul were pretty cheap as well, and doesn't look like it has been posted about yet.

Similar date period - travel Feb/March 2017.

Melbourne (MEL) to Seoul$269
Adelaide (ADL) to Seoul $276
Brisbane (BNE) to Seoul $277
Darwin (DRW) to Seoul $284
Sydney (SYD) to Seoul $285
Perth (PER) to Seoul $285

Here is a selected $269 return example.

Happy travels.

Edit: Looks like fares are slowly getting ozbargained. Example fare has gone up to the staggering price of $294 this morning. Just jump on the iwtf search engine to see if the flight you want is still available.

Edit2: Most dates are being reported as gone. Still worth trying your luck through other flight search engines or the airline direct.

Singapore Airport is beautiful. I wouldn't mind living there! haha

    • I know right, if there was a zombie apocalypse or something and it was my last days on Earth, it'd be at Changi Airport

      • better than hk airport?

        • Couldn't tell ya mate, never been to HK :O)

        • +1

Definitely better than HK airport. There's nothing there aside from the normal shops..

Singapore airport is like another attraction on its own xD

Movie lounges, butterfly garden, gaming area, etc.

  • Best price I've seen but most Melbourne dates are gone… :(
    I guess I'm too late.

  • +1

Thanks OP!! Booked Mid to late march for $344 with 2/3 hour layover in Singapore from Melbourne.

      • Got mine September 8th to 24th

Your ticket price changed from AU$337.30 to AU$1,167.50. The airline could not confirm the original price due to pricing or availability changes that occurred after we posted the latest prices on our site. Continue booking or look for a different flight.

    Welp :(

    • Did you already book? Or did you click on the I want that flight link and the price changed?

  • It's so cheap I want to cry!!

  • Thanks OP!! Booked Feb weekend trip for $386 with only 1/2 hour layover from Sydney.
Not the best price but still very cheap :)

  • 235 return from melbourne to Beijing booked in may. Crazy

  • My friends and I just booked from Darwin to Seoul for $270~290 for the end of july. None of the other cities were working unfortunately, so now we have to find cheap flights from Sydney to Darwin. Here I come Darwin (seoul)

  • +1

Booked on Expedia for first week September next year - $340 return ex Sydney. Confirmation number received straight away and shows up on Virgin Australia website.
    Bring on South Korea!!

  • Prices Have now changed when u go to confirm.

  • Never been to Korea. Seriously thanks so much OP!!

  • Can't find these prices from Brisbane anymore :(

IWTF shows them but none of them follow through…

  • I just tried to search for it. I can see it for $293 melb to seoul on Iwantthatflight. But when you click on booking with edreams and goes to their website, price changed to $1,094!!
    So that's false advertising.

    • Same thing here w expedia

I'm not surprised! There's no way Australia to Seoul cost under $300!! That's crazy especially it's a normal top airline and not your AirAsia flight.
Usually it's around $700 - $800. AirAsia when on sale is cheaper.

I've just tried click on Wotif. The page doesn't even exist!!

I question if Iwantthatflight is even legitimate. Never used them before.

        • Definitely works, got MEL-ICN for $320 (through STA) and MEL-PEK for $270 (through Expedia). All confirmed and checked on the Virgin Australia website.

        • Just like everyone who jumped on this early on i managed to get myself a cheap flight tix $296 from Sydney - Seoul for march.

I think its just a matter of IWTF website not being able to keep up with the demands and probably hasnt have the time to update their own websites.
I do agree with you that that is an issue as when i tried to book i was aiming for Singapore airline but was redirected to a Virgin airline instead. And just like you some websites (ex. Wotif) doesnt even display the price nor flights chosen.

I would say that IWTF are legit as they can be. Its only a matter of how often they update their website in real life.

        • @piggiepanda:

Mine went to VA also but says flights are operated by Singapore airlines :)

        • +1

          @billyb67:

Same. After awhile refreshing the page trying to get SQ as my plane to no luck, i saw that it was operated by Singapore airlines so i jumped on it too xD

  • I think they fixed it all now.
None of them are showing anymore - I wonder if they will honour all the tickets

  • +2

"1080 people have bought tickets to Seoul today" haha

    • Too many professionals!

  • Heartbroken to have missed this! :<

  • The deal is still on, but I cannot figure out why would I want to visit Seoul during the winter. Maybe Snowboarding?

    • I'm pretty sure it's not still on… IWTF shows the cheap prices but once you click through it jumps up to a much higher amount.

      • Yep seeing the same thing on all booking websites. I reckon I missed out by about 5 minutes. Devo'd

        • I actually had flights ready to go earlier but decided to try to change the dates… big mistake :(

        • @Evil-Elmo: Yeah, it seems like all tickets are either sold out or the agencies have jacked up the prices. I missed tickets by like 2~3 minutes.

    • Too slow.. should have booked first. But yes even in April it was so bloody cold in the city :(

    • The ozbargain way is to pay first and think later.

  • Will travel insurance cover me if the airlines cancels my flights?

  • Booked Feb 24-27 $355 ex Sydney (edreams through IWTF) Ticketed and confirmed.
Have been before but these prices are crazy you can pretty much claim your airfare back with a big purchase and TRS.

    • 24-27?! It's over 16hrs travel each way. By the time you get there you could check in to your return flight!

      • I get 3.5 whole days there, been before and mainly going for the snow.

  • Picked up flights from brisbane at $275 ea. can't wait!

  • +1

Good new for ticket buyers. Virgin announced they sold accidentally super-cheap tickets. They will honour for lucky customers.

    http://www.businessinsider.com.au/virgin-australia-accidenta…

    • So lucky!!!!!!!!!!

    • +1

Fortunately, it’s believed Virgin Australia will honour the tickets of the lucky few who managed to book flights at the ridiculous prices.

Key word being 'believed'. I expect they will too, but it doesn't seem certain…

    • The statement in that article sounds more like they wont honour them. But hopefully Fingers Crossed

    • +2

Sounds like someone who couldn't believe this price called Virgin and asking for reassurance. That's how they found out IWTF.

      • +2

There are many idiots that screwed everyone else.

      • Why FT would someone do that… missed out by a couple of minutes. Was at CC stage.

        • Anyone else got a call/email saying they didn't honour it? I booked flights to Seoul for April for $350pp through flyfar

        • @ZZE123:

          Did you get a call/email?

        • @ZZE123: THis is kinda nerve wrecking… ive got my confirmation, booking reference, itinerary but just afraid they might cancel it O.o

        • @adamadam: call from flyfar. They said Virgin/Singapore airline cancelled it. Now I'm wondering if that's true or they decided to cancel it so they can resell it at a higher price being a third party site..

        • @ZZE123: Oh no!!!!! :(:(:(

        • @adamadam: I hope everyone gets it. I'm escalating it to Virgin. Flyfar is the worst I've dealt with.

  • +1

    I really really love ozbargain!

  • +2

This is why I LOVE ozbargain. Wouldn't have known about all these great deals (or mistakes) otherwise. :D

  • Anyone able to give me some info on this?

I bit the bullet and bought a ticket. Sydney return for $298 in March 2017. Never been to Korea but I've been to Thailand a few times.

    Do the flights include meals?

If anyone has been to Seoul how expensive is it? I'm mainly talking about hotels, restaurants and taxis.

Any help would be great! Time to start researching lol.

    • +1

      Time to start researching

      Saved me typing it!

      • It's always good to get feedback from fellow ozbargainers. I always research before going anywhere but I know a fair few people that use this site have been to Korea.

    • +1

      I usually visit Seoul yearly.
Street food - cheap. Restaurants- average priced meals. Taxis - cheap, but the subway is fast and efficient. Hotels - most people stay in the Myeongdong area and use that as their base.

      • +1

Have to watch out for taxis over there. Some are dodgy will take you for a ride to get more fares. I was there about 3 years ago, and I can't remember exactly but the tour guide told us which colour cab to trust more. Unfortunately when we caught our cab we were left with the not soo trust worthy ones and I can see the driver missing turns on purpose from his navigation system a number of times. The other two groups also caught same colour cab and came in later than us and paid more for their fare.

Also our driver pretended that he wasn't sure where to take us when we gave him our hotel card. He wasted a lot of time pretending and trying to punch the address into his navigation system. Language is a barrier there as they don't speak English well.

        • Who uses taxis in a city with a 1st degree public transportation system that beats all Oz cities hands down.

        • @Sleepy24seven:

you use a taxi when you're out later than midnight and the subway shuts down for the night :(

          But otherwise never!

    • Yup, flights include meals. Treat them as normal SQ flights

      • VA includes meal??? O.o
SO i get free meal??? but it doesnt state anywhere though???

        First time flying with VA

        • Virgin Airline and Singapore Airlines are both full service airlines. snacks, meals, luggage and entertainment is all included :)

  • Anybody able to select seats? Any method

  • HOLY,

I am so buggered, I usually check ozbargain daily, skip a day and this happens to me………………………

Sites still show cheap prices, but once you go ahead with a branch, jumps up..

ANY places in aus working atm?

    • This is the same link that was posted 9 hours ago :D

  • wow so Coll!
that's why I booked on Virgin Website to avoid cancellation
