What happens if you're on an existing 365 day Kogan plan and recharge to take advantage of this offer?
Would these rates kick in after your expiry or will it override it from the date of purchase?

    • §90 & 365 Day promotions valid for new and existing Kogan Mobile customers. Offer ends 11:59PM AEDT 31/01/2017 unless otherwise extended.
^30 Day promotions valid for new Kogan Mobile customers only. Offer ends 11:59PM AEDT 14/11/2016 unless otherwise extended.

Thats what it says under the deal so idk if that is of use for you

      • +3

        Thanks.

Doesn't really answer if it overrides your current plan if you recharge early or if it kicks in after your current plan's expiry.
I've emailed them as well and will report back when I get a reply.

        • Would love to know also ! I have about 5 months remaining on my current Kogan service.

        • Would like to know this as well, had just recharged for 3 months earlier this month!

        • +1

It overrides the current plan, most prepays do.

        • +1

Under Product Expiry in the t&c's..

Unless otherwise stated in the Terms, when the credit expiry period elapses or when the Kogan Mobile Recharge Product is recharged (whichever occurs first), any unused credit for that Product is forfeited, is not refundable, and cannot be carried over to any other Product.

I'd read that as overriding the current…

        • +1

So I've just gotten the official response and it does indeed override :(

The credits on our recharges do not roll over to the next recharge, hence if you recharge your account now, while your current 365 days plan is still active. This will over ride your existing recharge.

We do understand that you wish to take advantage of the current promotion.

Rest assured, we keep coming up with various attractive promotion offers from time to time.

It is quite possible that we may have some promotion when your next recharge is due.

  • Seems good to me. Will wait for my 45 day prepay to expire then might do 1 Year.

    • Me too… Remind me:

Whose network does Kogan mobile use?

      Is it 3G or 4G or better…?

      • Kogan uses Vodafone 4G

  • Can probably use this to take advantage of Vaya's price beat guarantee?

    • +15

Maybe, but then again, vaya charge $10 per GB over, and last I checked kogan just cuts you off, which I think is much nicer.

      • Eh. There is a button on your phone that "cuts you off" whenever you want to, whereas logan certainly does not offer $10/GB.

        • They offer $14.90 per 2GB in a "Big Data Pack" https://www.koganmobile.com.au/plans/big-data-pack/ :)

        • +2

For phones without quota management, it's quite like a petrol nozzle without the ability to preset value. One extra grasp may well bump you from $49.98 to $50.01 and telcos don't do rounding.

        • +2

Not always working. Your phone is only estimating your data usage that can be totally different from what Vaya is seeing. Vaya is calculating your data usage based on their magic way.

        • +3

          @ozlab:

If it's off by more than say 10% talk to the TIO because their magic way is a magic rip off.

        • +2

@ozlab: Every provider tends to round up data usage to the nearest packet. Packet sizes can vary, eg. nearest 50kb. Thus why the data usage may be different.

100 messenger messages could be 5MB if they are spread out so that they don't belong in one session. Your phone will record this as the true size which will be more like 10KB.

From my personal experience, Vodafone always seems to underestimate the data usage based on my phone and Telstra always overestimates. Telstra also has a nasty habit of taking your last day's usage and allocate it to the first day of your next cycle. Shocking and they can't fix it for me so I now just have to shift my data usage to one day before what is stated.

    • "…if you find a comparable (non-promotional) mobile plan in the market we'll not only price match it…"

This is a promotion, so presumably Vaya wouldn't try beat it.

    • Can probably use this to take advantage of Vaya's price beat guarantee(vaya.net.au)?

      Probably not.

"if you find a comparable (non-promotional) mobile plan in the market we'll not only price match it, but also give you your first month on Vaya for free - all with no lock-in contract!"

  • +2

Still didnt get the sim card I ordered last time

  • Can I port to the $4.9 deal and port out after 30 days with $2 sim and port back in for the $4.90 again?

    • +2

      $4.9 deal expires next week

    • Excuse my ignorance but the starter pack sim costs $0. Is this somehow different to the $2 sim you mentioned?

      • Because you have to port away from Kogan and back but anyway the deal expires next week.

      • The $2 sim he's referring to is a different sim (not Kogan), a $2 Optus sim for eg. Used to port out from Kogan, to the Optus, then back to Kogan again,
Apparently there is long delays (never tried it, not sure if it's even possible?) when porting from like carriers/networks, eg. Using a Kogan sim w the $4.9 month plan, then using a new seperate Kogan sim to and porting from the old Kogan sim to the new Kogan sim with a new $4.9 monthly plan. (Also, in this case it's not possible to sign up to the $4.9 promo, as it's only available to new customers, hence the necessity of the porting to said $2 Optus (or Telstra or whoever, not Kogan) sim.

        • Oh, ok. Well then just clarify a little further, given that I would be a new customer could I get the $0 starter pack sim and sign up for the $4.90 12GB plan this week and then sometime before the end of the 30 day period simply recharge at the 12 month $279 8GB plan (without the need to port out and port in again)?

          Thanks.

  • wow! good deal, would have done this over the virgin deal but oh well :( only thing is that Kogan's mobile usage feature kinda sucks. hard to see what exactly you've used for the 'start of plan month'

    • There's an app for that

      • yeah shows the same as the desktop page. I could only see what i've used for 'the past 30 days' onwards, which doesnt tell me exactly how much i have left if im in my 2nd month in (flows from the month before)

        • Third party apps =)

        • @Lukian:

What would be the most uptodate and reliable third party data use app for Kogan do you think?

        • +1

@arthurbach4: Anything which counts usage at your phone level and doesn't use the Kogan website.

          Android: 3G Watchdog
          iOS: DataUsagePro

        • +1

Yeah, I don't like it either, easier now to just text balance to 12612 and it comes back with MB remaining for the current 30 day period.

    • +1

Dunno which app you're using, but my Kogan app tells me exactly what I've got left and the date it expires.

      • +1

I only see % of data used, and data days remaining. It's better than nothing, I just like to see it in MB. The balance txt shows it so don't know why the web interface can't.

  • +2

I literally just renewed my large 365 last night if I had known I would've waited and could've saved $120 I wonder if kogan will give me a partial refund

  • So are they with Vodafone network now? No international call included on these plans?
I must say the price looks really good for 8gb plan!!

    • Yes, on Voda nework. And no international calls.

    • Yeah the no international texts (or calls) kills it for me.

Id be happy with the 3GB ($17/m) plan - but just to be able to send the occasional text to NZ Id have to add $15/m - bringing it up to $32/m which is around the same price I already pay for AmaySIM 3GB plan with unlimited calls/text to NZ so no point switching.

It would not worry me if I just had to pay 20c per overseas text… but not committing to $15 per month as I never know when I need to text NZ.

  • +1

This plan will work really well with xiaomi. No band 28 required!!!!!!

    • Sorry are you being sarcastic or will a Xiaomi phone be ok with kogan?

  • Can I buy the extra large 12GB 30 Days for $4.9 and then change it to 3GB plan for a year?

    • +1

It does look like you can. I haven't hit the recharge button yet, but I signed up for the 4.95/12GB plan for 1 month about 10 days ago. I just logged in and the promo pricing seems to work for the 365 recharge in my account.

  • This appears to be for new customers only. I just moved to them on the $4.95 plan for one month. Definitely want to know if porting out then back in will work.

Edit: Nvm. it does work for recharges! I'll be buying a 385 day recharge after I see what data use looks like this month. Sweet Deal!

  • -4

It's on the Vodaphone network. No thanks.

    • +6

I've been on Optus now for about six months… Soooo wish I was back on Voda, I guess it depends on where you go.

      • +4

Definitely, my brother's optus has never beaten my vodafone for 4g speed in Brisbane. It seems everyone goes to optus thinking they're "better than vodafone" and as a result they get most of the congestion. Even reception-wise I feel vodafone is better in Brisbane.

    • +1

Depends on where you live but I have been happy with Voda network.

    • +1

It's much faster than Optus for me and far less congested. Only bad thing is the call centre, really difficult to understand what they're saying.

      • Where I live, Vodafone is way better than Optus.

It's that or the lack of Band 28 really kills reception on my phone for Optus.

But I know people who prefer Optus. Just depends where you work and live.

        • I tested a fair bit in Sydney CBD (Martin Place) and Chatswood CBD. cat.9 LTE device with full AU band support.

          Peak download, it's Telstra > Optus > Vodafone. Something like 170, 110, 70.

Average, Telstra and Vodafone tie. In fact, I think Vodafone might come out on top. Optus is usually a congested mess.

Of course, this'll vary depending on where you are and time of day.

It does look like all the giant data plans are on the Optus network, so that might be why. Pity, since we all want cheap and fast data…

  • I am currently with Kogan from one of their 365 deals back earlier this year.

Very happy with the whole transfer process and I think I've ended up with 10GB a month which I don't really get anywhere near.

  • Good thing about Kogan Mobile is you never go beyond the allocated GB because your downloads will be cut once you hit the limit.

  • +3

    which network are they on

    • +1

      Vodafone network

      • -1

the worst network ever… SOS Only for me….but heir site says I can get 3G

  • -4

Good thing about Kogan Mobile is after you pay for the year you never know if you are going to get your service for the year!

    • +2

Unlike the Telstra/Kogan fiasco, the Vodafone/Kogan we have now is direct from Vodafone not through a reseller.

Unless Kogan or Vodafone go belly up you should be fine. There's no 3rd party that can fail here.

  • Don't forget exetel have 9.90 per month for six months with 2gb and not much calls

  • Sh*t, forgot i had a prepaid balance reloaded on my TPG account and just ported my number over to Kogan. Now its not a savings for me haha

    • If you signed up back when the initial $20 was called a deposit, don't forget to argue with them to get back anything remaining of it, and ask for the $11 port out fee to refunded too while you're at it.

      • Yeah its theft they charged me $20 + $11 after i ported out but didnt take it from my $50+ balance in my account. so they have earned $81 so far..

        • Yeah it's pretty rude.
Just email them , tell them you want your deposit back, and port out fee refunded for your trouble. They'll refuse, so you need to make sure you mention that if they don't you'll be lodging a complaint with the TIO.
          They'll soon call you back.

Unfortunately you won't get the rest back though

        • @bamzero: Has this worked for you? I wanted to do this but I ended up doing ok. I ended up choosing a new personalised number with Amaysim, but they still charged me for new month 3 days after me requesting I cancel my plan. I used big abbreviations like ACCC etc AND lodged a VISA dispute. Both worked and I ended up getting refunded the $20 twice >:D I just consider it as the month and the non-refundable $20 'deposit' than profit though :>

        • They caved and refunded me $20 for a month I cancelled 2 or 3 days before the end of, it cost me about 3 phone calls and 4 emails, worth a shot :> Gl

        • @buttstuff:

Yeah, and others I know also.

  • Amazing! Is this the best deal out there for 4GB+?

    • Yes.

  • +2

    hows voda network though ?

    • If you go anywhere Bush, not good. Had the misfortune of Comparing Telstra Optus and Vodafone. Only one that had Coverage…minimal was Telstra.

  • +2

Can we sign up for the $4.95 then immediately stack the 365 day packs?

    • +1

Why immediately? The deal will be around in another month when you need to recharge.

      • +2

Just something to point out. If you recharge early it void the remaining days.

  • Terms and conditions state data is charged per KB unless stated otherwise. Did anyone find it stated otherwise anywhere?

  • If I get the Extra Large package with 12gb per month. Could I then use my phone as a hotspot for the laptop and tablet? If not, I have buckleys about getting anywhere near that amount.

    • Yep you should be able to do that

    • Most definitely. That's what I've been doing with their 12gb $4.90 promotion at the moment. And it's much faster than Optus.

      • I've been doing that, tethering lappie and tablet.

  • Such a great offer! I was with Kogan earlier in the year for 3 months with that offer that was their 5GB plan for $11 per month. I really liked their service. Will most likely utilise this 8GB yearly deal once I'm off my Yomojo promo.

    • That's amazing. Was that offer for 3 months only?

      • Yeah it was for recharges before a set date.

  • +1

    Kogan Mobile has great prices!

  • Is there much difference between Kogan and Lebara? I have 3 months to wait and see if Lebara have another 25% Coles discount. That would be $18.75 p/m for 5GB.

  • +1

So if I want to switch to this I just buy a year upfront? Why are people saying you buy 4.95$ one then upgrade?

    • +2

§90 & 365 Day promotions valid for new and existing Kogan Mobile customers. Offer ends 11:59PM AEDT 31/01/2017 unless otherwise extended.
^30 Day promotions valid for new Kogan Mobile customers only. Offer ends 11:59PM AEDT 14/11/2016 unless otherwise extended.

You buy the 1 month for $4.95 and when that expires, buy the full year. The one month promo ends soon whereas the yearly promo ends at the end of Jan :)

      • Thank you so much you've Done wonders, absolute wonders.

  • Does your billing start when you activate it? If I have a month of my current plan paid and I get this can I wait till that's over to activate?

    • +1

§90 & 365 Day promotions valid for new and existing Kogan Mobile customers. Offer ends 11:59PM AEDT 31/01/2017 unless otherwise extended.

Order the sim and then activate it when you're about to finish.

  • so I buy the 0$ sim and then once it arrives I activate it THEN buy the 365 days of credit?

    • Yes. Very easy, took me 5 minutes all up.

  • I got a sim for the $4.90 deal but with this deal, I might port my number. Do I have to let them know when I'm ordering the sim which means I need to order another one or can I ask to port when I receive my sim?

    • +1

      From the website:
"How do I transfer my existing number to Kogan Mobile?
When your SIM Pack arrives, simply activate it online by visiting koganmobile.com.au. During this process, you’ll have the option to transfer (port) your number to Kogan Mobile.
Most transfers take less than 4 business hours. It’s that easy!"
