Can you open these without having post graduate qualifications in engineering?

    • +9

I can and my formal qualifications are all in business and economics, with no engineering subjects included. I've heard that doing a RTFM helps some people.

      • Honestly, good design should speak for itself and function perfectly. Dyson prides itself on it. But I am less than convinced. I do manage to open mine, but it's clunky. My postgraduate qualifications didn't help me.

        • To open the bottom lid, just push the release button half way and the lid will pop.
To remove the canister, fully press the release button and pull the thing apart(works better if you remove the vaccuum stick first)
          No big dramas here.

Im an undergrad and was able to open the box fairly easily.

  • +1

Is this the cheapest they've ever been? ($248?)

  • Anyone knows the difference between v6 and more expensive v6 absolute? Is v6 suitable for both carpet and hard floor?

    • +1

Lots of attachments, motorised head, etc.

      • Thanks ATangk

    • +3

Yes the V6 HS in this listing is suitable for both carpet and hard floor.

V6 absolute has an extra HEPA filter, mini motorised head and its stronger heads for even quicker and effective cleaning due to the extra power in the direct-driven heads. Not 100% needed if you do not need the extra power, V6 can pick up pet hair and other stubborn bits, the V6 absolute will just do it quicker and easier.

        Thank you Cortex21!

  • Whats a registered Amex? I have the Qantas Amex does this count?

    • +1

Yes, but you have to enroll for the offer before you make the purchase.

Price match with TGG to get down by $1
    TGG $347 https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/dyson-v6-handstick-209468-01

So you pay $247 after $100 AMEX cash back

    • +1

Isn't the $100 cashback only for HN purchases…not TGG?

      • +3

yes, but still you can request HN to match the price with TGG's

    • +1

Only a deal if your time talking with customer reps is worth the $1 you get.

But in saying that though, you have the true ozbargain spirit.

  • thanks champ! good price

  • +1

Don't need to price match TGG.

Go in store ask for a deal from the manager, ask nicely and they can do it for $325.

    • +1

I tried asking nicely, but no luck. Are you able to post up invoice to price match?

      • Please since it finishes today!

  • As someone who bought a DC45 for $260 not too long ago, all these Dyson deals make me sad.

  • +3

For those wanting the V6 Absolute you can price match with TGG for $607 then split into 2 AMEX payments making the actual cost $407. Did this earlier today and the two emails arrive instantly.

    • +1

I was considering to use 5 AMEX cards to get an iPhone 7 plus, could make a profit…

      • It mentions on the Amex offer terms "Excludes gift card purchases and phone orders" im assuming here that an iphone comes under phone orders ?

        • HAhahah phone orders = ordering over the phone?

        • @sintro: wow, cant help but laugh as well

    • I am a newbie - can you explain more on what I do ?

      • You need to manually enroll two Amex cards to the Harvey Norman Spend $300 get $100 offer. Go to Harvey Norman and ask them to price match The Good Guy's Dyson V6 Absolute price of $607 (ends 7th November). Then when you pay for the item ask the cashier to split the payment using the two Amex cards with both payments being at least $300 (so $300 and $307). Good luck

    • This can be done with a supplementary card as well?

      • Only if u enrolled in the offer on the supplementary card.

      • Really got me worried then.

      • +1

        Check your pending transaction.
I shopped at Harvey Norman and it showed up as Domayne AV/IT!

        • It still sits as pending transaction after 4 days. Maybe that is why I am not getting the emails. Will see what to do next week.

        • @jingsu6688:
I called up on the night and they told me to call back in 5 days if I haven't got credit back and they will do a manual credit.

        • @sintro: no emails what so ever, just got 100 credits back.

  • Anyone buy Dyson from Harvey Norman and they tried to sell you addtional 4 year warranty for 50$ and they said it will be replaced by a new one ?

Is it true and good to buy or its just cheating to earn more money from them ?

    • +1

They offered it to me for $99 for the $607 V6 absolute. I said no.

    • They offered it to me for $70 for Dyson V6 additional 4 year warranty, Why the price is different? I also want to know any benefit for this extra warranty?
May be I can get battery replacement after two years?

    • +1

How it actually works is the first 2 years is with Dyson still so the first 2 years is still a repair warranty through the company and the number of years you agree to adds on top of those 2 years and is then becomes a replacement style warranty.

Physical damage is still not covered (like the item obviously being dropped and showed crack like damage) but it does cover wear and tear (so if the brush wears out, and that is your only issue with the whole machine then that is a viable reason to come into the store to replace) battery is also covered in that replacement warranty where battery in general in any product sold isn't technically covered under the manufacturer's warranty but some companies still help out to show good company morals and reputation. The store will look at it physically, of course, to see as a visual proof and decide there, once they can see the fault they will replace it.

The extended warranty also basically locks the price you paid for even say 6 years (2 + 4 max you can get) down the future and if the issues are found then you can even get the latest model at that time and pay the little difference (or nothing at all again depending on how nice your store is, if the price gap between what you paid for and that new models current price on that day isn't huge to them).

However amount of years you buy is up to you and the price varies as it's their own service so prices can vary depending on the staff and store tending to you.

Again, depending on how nice your local store and staff is (of course many variables along the way years down the line come to play i.e, does the service details change 5 years later, is the staff still good years later whether it is the exact same staff member or not, etc the list can go on) without those unpredictable variables into consideration that is how the Harvey Norman product care (Similarly The Good Guys concierge service works like this too but a little bit better in my opinion) works .

      • Also is there may be no need for this with the statutory rights to save the money.. Also if you buy on a credit card which offers the extra warranty period for free may also be of benefit - dependant upon which card of course, so would need to check the additional benefits:)

Saw a YouTube video, I think it is very safe to open the v6 battery, replace the cells with 18650, bang! You will have 40mins running time. That is what I am going to do when my battery dies. Soldiering etc is really not that hard.

I have done countless number of cell changing for electronic tooth brush. i think the oldest one got done 3 times already. It is nearly 8 years old and still going strong. Having said that, tooth brush got diff models, every model is a bit diff, so got to learn/remember a bit everytime.

    • Whether you are past warranty or not, the batteries are not the same kind of lithium batteries you get with stuff like in drills, etc. The run time is only 20 mins but they were designed to last longer life span wise than the normal batteries so you wouldn't have to replace them as often.

Even if you know what you are doing in terms of replacing the battery, there is no guarantee it will last as long normal as it will then have a foreign piece of technology being placed in that it wasn't designed for, so yeah maybe it will work for a bit but then if the motor dies because of it then you are out of the V6.

      • true though, especially you can get replacement battery。

  • What do people think of the "LG 'Cord Zero Handstick' Stick 2-in-1 Vacuum Cleaner" on the link below? Apparently it has detachable batteries and comes with two for double the run time.

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/vacuum-laundry-appliances/vac…

    • I played around with it, and honestly it does not move well on both types of floors. I personally think the Electrolux handsticks are better overall if run time is your major deciding factor.

  • I got in on this deal. Up until the 7th November they had another deal that if you get a dyson handstick, you could get the desk fan for $299 ($100 off). So, on Thursday night, I got the base V6 ($348) + the fan, for a total of $647. Split it across 2 amex cards. Got a bit worried when I didn't get an email from Amex, and didn't see that the deal had been "redeemed" when i logged into Amex connect. Checked my online banking today and I have received the $100 back on each card. Pretty happy with that purchase - $447 for the V6 & the fan is a pretty good deal.

  • Anyone knows what the differences are between the "Dyson V6 Slim Cordfree" and "Dyson V6 Cordless"?

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/dyson-v6-slim-cordfree-vacuum…
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/dyson-v6-cordless-vacuum-clea…

    • Both appear to have same performance.
Slim comes with a narrow motorised cleaner head, effectively more powerful due to less area.
I believe cordless has been discontinued and replaced by cordfree - same specs and attachments just a different colour.

    • wjb is correct, slim is only ideal for someone who has a lot of narrow floored areas.

  • Do you guys all get the credit back? I did purchase online on 3rd November and I received thank you email from AMEX. But still I haven't got my $100 yet. I'm really worried.

    • Give amex a call and ask them to check on the processing of cash back - if it hasn't been credited to you, they will help put through a manual enquiry. They mentioned that you could also do this through AmEx connect.
