It has a brand name lens (Schneider Lens)
Reading the reviews, it's not the graetest camera ever but recommended by most.

http://www.trustedreviews.com/digital-cameras/review/2009/11…Yeah at this price it's ain't bad. Would be in the range of some decent compacts that have only 3-4x zoom, this would then make a nice other option and might just push the consumer into buying the zoom.
I am about to buy Sony HX5V, though double price of this on citiwide, are they comparable from any view?
The Sony is probably better, but is it 'doubly' better?
Great camera for the sub-$200 category
i have a hx5v its well worth the money.
What about the Pana TZ10? The series that started it all.
Have you compared the Sony HX5V to the Panasonic TZ10?
I think the Sony works exceptionally well in low light due to their Exmor R Sensors though their focus/image quality isnt as good as the TZ10. The Panasonic seems to have more vibrant pictures and is able to focus better from a far distance.
Though do keep in mind the Sony has a CMOS sensor whereas Panasonic has a CCD.Personally prefer TZ10 after comparing them both side by side
I finally purchased HX5V this afternoon. I did some research on both models as well, and the TZ10 seems to have better video quality in night according to the side-by-side comparasions on youtube. Since I am not an expert on photographing, if don't put them side-by-side, I may never find the difference. And I don't like the unavoidable purple lines on CCD when pointing it to lights. Some useful functions of HX5V are the main reasons to me to choose it, 1080i HD-video, Sweep Panorama, and the ability to use SD card. Plus I have another old Sony DC using BG1 battery, so this give me an extra battery.
Anyhow, both are good DCs, and it was a hard decision.
Great camera for the money.
The WB550 was released back in June 2009 and has since been superseded by the WB650/WB660 ($369 on staticice).
The WB550 has been on runout for a couple of months, but this is the cheapest advertised price I have seen.
HN Perth City Store has sold out, but taking backorders.
Anyone know of any store in NSW that may have some stock?
Domayne at Auburn have stock and they will price match HN.
Got one today for myself at exactly the same price, just
mention the HN ad.Oh, good tip! I'll give them a call tomorrow.
Update: THANKS! I have one on hold for me and will pick it up in an hour.
Went to pick up this camera this afternoon and i was told browns plains was the only store to have stock in Brisbane…
Cannington WA have some on backorder. I managed to reserve two as my Mum & I are going to get one each. We were offered extended warranty of 24 months (on top of the 12 months it comes with ) for $40.00.
Great price, and thanks for posting!
Thanks!! Just placed an order with Harvey Norman Auburn. I've been in the market for a cheap but decent digicam w/ HD video.
Picked up one of these a few days ago, takes some great shots! was just wondering did your cameras come with the little sticker on the front (like in the pic - with the specs on it: 12.2 mp 10x zoom etc) because mine didn't and the box wasn't sealed - is that normal?
Mine didn't either and the box wasn't sealed.
Harvey Norman in Osborne Park WA has just got more stock.
Peter.
cool, thanks alot pete!
I just picked up one of these, it's a nice camera
The Toowoomba QLD store has 10 more in stock as of this arvo.
This is a great price for big zoom. But I'd be wary of the lens and picture quality.
