Sony Xperia Z3 Compact Tablet $278 @ Sony Kiosk Parramatta Westfield NSW

320

Brand new clearance Sony Xperia Z3 compact from Sony kiosk. I dropped by to see some cameras and came across the tablet for only $278. The guy said they're trying to clear the stock. Comes with noise cancelling earphones.

The deal is at the kiosk at Parramatta Westfield and I'm not sure if it is nationwide. Decent tablet for a great price!

  • I assume there is no bonus earphone for this?

  • It comes with noise cancelling headphones (that's what the rep told me).

Really enjoying my Z3 Compact I bought in the last deal that came up, can recommend this tablet highly.

      Not available online

  • Well there you go, guess it's a Sony wide thing.

  • Chatswood Sony Kiosk also has the same deal. If you ask, you can get one with earphone at $279, same as the website. Just bought two.

  • Weird question, but has anyone updated one of these to the Marshmallow oS? Have you experienced significant battery drain?

    • Got mine in the last deal, upgraded to Marshmallow, and seems all fine. Quite happy with it. Can't say I'm ever planning to put it under water. But worth getting to annoy my 11yo Apple-kid, I can happily use mine in the bath with wet hands, and her mini2 is useless :)

      • Haha yeah water resistance sounds like a neat extra. Good to know re: battery, I'm after a tablet or phone with a specific set of features (marshmallow or nougat, 256gb microsd compatibility, apt-x, wifi 802.11ac and long battery life) and this seems to fit the bill nicely!

      • How come mine stays at 5. No new upgrade available

        • Mine definitely is 6.0.1 No idea why yours hasn't upgraded, I would think it should.

  • Bought this online on the last deal, but was sent a used/refurbished item. Box original seal was broken and they stick another seal over it. Be careful when you buy, better check well.

    • See update from TA regarding your claim.

Email from Sony re claims of refurbished units (1:16pm Oct 24): None of these products are upgraded or refurbished. Double stickering is part of the normal process and is due to our factory final inspection with random QA checks after production completion (this involves attaching security seal, then over attaching one more security seal for random QA checked units). If needed, software upgrades, insertion of leaflet/warranty card is done at the warehouse for which a re-seal is also required (however not in this case). Due to the volume of units, we would expect a few to be QA checked.

Thanks for the link, wasn't aware that so many people have similar issue!
"A few" to be QA checked.. Not buying it, It's gonna go to Fair Trading if they can't give me a good resolution.

Edit: I just created a poll in the forums, if anyone is having the same issue, could you indicate it there? Thanks.

        • Yep sounds a bit dodgey too me as well. Basically reads as if someone decided to just make it up. No factory software upgrades for this one, either.

Around April they have their clearance. That's it, no more. I bought the last unit at Parramatta and passed on the demo unit when they only offered $20 off. But they were fine to sell it as they were getting no more.

This is all in line with historical Sony clearance. They really stuff on their marketing in Australia. Trying to suck the premium price with exclusive Carrier deals etc kills it for them here. Customers read about Sony products, then you can't buy them. Eventually you find that yeah they were exclusive at a ridiculous Australia Tax Price, and they are sold out anyway….

          3 more sales since.

My guess is they are pulling them from overseas, So returned stock is very possible. Perhaps, with some changeover of manuals in the wrong language.. But according to Sony, this odd QA check does not involve actually breaking a seal, but simply sticking another on top of the existing seal.

          What are they checking for?

        • …what would you consider a good resolution. seems a fair explanation to me?

        • +1

@bloobat: Not really. QC should have been done before item is sealed. If it's already sealed and they have to open break the seal to check again, then there's something seriously wrong with their process.

        • @equavate: But I don't get the issue? does you device look like it was used? does it not work properly? etc etc I mean it doesn't really matter imo especially as you get a warranty anyway?

        • @bloobat: I paid for a brand new item, so I expect to get a brand new item, it's as simple as that. It's also against the law for retailers who sell used/refurbished goods as new and do not disclose this to consumers.

        • +1

@equavate: But I'm asking is there any other suggestion that it's a refurb apart from this double sticker? Being a bit pedantic if you ask me.

        • @bloobat: I get that you don't mind getting a used item even though you're paying for brand new item, but that doesn't mean everyone else does.

        • @equavate:
No I would be fuming if I received a clearly used product however all I'm saying is your issue doesn't seem worth a fuss. If the device doesn't function correctly, has even the slightest blemish then yes I'd 100% agree but as it is your complaining about a double seal.

        • @bloobat: A double seal to me means the box has been opened and whatever is inside has been tampered with, so it's either used or refurbished. Isn't that a fair deduction? And in my case, it seems the items inside was not put back properly either, I can hear things moving inside by just tilting the box left and right. More reason to think that it's really not a brand new item that I'm receiving.

  • Wonder if there's any left at Westfields Parra by tomorrow? Might pop in to buy..

    • I'm sure there will be. They had it for $298 for ages and didnt run out of stock. just be mindful won't have the latest OS if you want that or app memory/storage issue. Else it's an excellent tablet.

      • Yeah.. Its gonna be a pressie for an aunt in her 50's anyway so I doubt she would care about being latest and greatest in OS levels. As long as it is stable and usable for next 3 years it will be good.

      • "just be mindful won't have the latest OS if you want that or app memory/storage issue." Sorry, what do you mean by this? Is updating the OS a bad idea? (Asking because Marshmallow has important accessibility features that I think I'll need.)

        • Ah no, what I meant is that the latest OS android Nougat won't be officially available for this tablet

I say official because someone may develop is unofficially in the future.

I bought the tablet and upgraded to marshmallow for my dad. Didnt see any issues on my part when upgrading.

        • @harkoliar: Ah right. Yeah that makes sense. God, fragmentation is the one thing that turns me off android a bit.

      • Not during the first clearance. They sold out in a few days. It was some months later that these imported units turned up.

  • Is this better than galaxy tab s 8" ?

    • Yes. The Memory, CPU and resolution kills it.

      • Perhaps. But the Galaxy Tab S has an AMOLED screen, which is far better than the Sony for watching video.

      • Sorry.. I misread it as Galaxy Tab A 8". Compared to the original Tab S, would be pretty much on par, with the Sony having a slightly faster CPU (SD801) but the Tab S has a better & bigger screen.

Where can you get the Tab S 8.4" with LTE for <$300 new?

        • I don't think this has LTE

        • this was from long time ago: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/213218 for price comparison.

z3 got marshmallow update as per earlier comments, not sure if tab s will get one soon or not.

        • @blaccdong: The Tab S just had Marshmallow released a couple of weeks ago in selected markets (not sure about Aus though)

        • @atlas: I thought it only came in Cellular version.. but you are right, it does come in a WIFI flavour so this must be the WIFI version to be so cheap.

        • @bchliu: Just got mine updated to Marshmallow via Kias today. Just plug into your computer and hit update.

      • Yes. The Memory, CPU and resolution kills it.

Tab S is 2560x1600. This is 1920x1200. It's not killing anything.

  • Would this be available in Brissy?

  • Is there even a link with a price so I could price match it?

    • Sorry the price was actually not advertised at $278, it was $298 but the guy at the kiosk told me the $278 price.

  • Aw site says sold out. May call tomorrow to double check. If they're actually sold out do you guys reckon there'll be another batch at some point?

  • I was so tempted to buy the Ulefone Power which has 3GB Ram, octa core processor and 6050mAH battery. Would be more better than this Sony experia z3. If I was gonna spend my $200 it would'nt be on this z3 phone LOL would either be the Oukitel or Ulefone. amazing how Australian consumers are getting the run of the mill deals for their mobiles!

    • I'm no expert but thats 8-core Mediatek vs 4-core Snapdragon.
