  • Interested. What's the UI like?

  • +1

GUI is better than the original Xtreamer 2.5" media player offering HD menus due to larger RAM.

    Youtube link to GUI:

    • But is it better than tivo or Windows MCE

  • What brand of HDD's are uncluded if you go the upgrade option?

It's also saying the Wireless N antennae is an extra $25.

  • Can the internal hard drives work as a mirrored NAS?

  • Hard drive will be Western Digital or Seagate (depending on availability). Most of the time it will be WD. Wireless-N Antenna is included for free as a promo until 23rd June then it will be $25 to be purchased as an optional extra/upgrade.

  • so like .. MSY has Seagate+WD 2TB hard drives for 167 each .. so thats $334 for the two ..

    You're wanting to charge $380 ..

what deal can we figure out ? ;)

  • I m interest for the deal as well if the price for additional HDD can be lower. :)

anyway, I have a few questions would like to ask in regards to the product itself.

    1. Whats the warranty? Refer back to ExtremerPro if anything happens?
    2. Is the player supporting format such as Real media (RM,RMVB) or Divx format?
  • Looking at the Xtreamer website as well as reading through some of the forums, it appears to be quite a nice product and well accepted by those that have purchased it.

I've gone to the forums and asked a couple of questions bout the product.

    1) Just trying to figure out if the player supports Real Media like RM, RMVB etc.
    2) Whats the support like for DivX format files?
    3) Whats the difference between the eTRAYz and XtreamerPro. Looking through they appear to be almost the same product but when you look at shop, you are selling them in a combo. What is the advantage of getting the combo. What benefit will it give me over just the Pro? They both do 4TB hdd's .. and streaming etc.

Hopefully we'll have an answer soon :)

  • Yeh, hope someone can answer those questions. :)
coz most of the files that i DL is mainly RM format, which hve a smaller file size and comparably better picture quality. DivX version is roughly 1.5 times bigger than the RMVB version. My concern is not actually the file size (less concern), its actually the DL time, larger fie means longer wait time, my broadband connection is max at 3Mb/s (ADSL2+) it required me more than 8-10 hours to torrent some DVD files.
So it will be nice if the machine support those compacted files, otherwise I will mainly use the device is just a NAS storage device.

Second thing is as CereaL suggest, the 2x2TB HDD can cost us $50 less from elsewhere while this machine is only discounted for $50 ($284 -> $239), that means the bundle deal actually cancelled out the discounted $50 price different.

Hope we can get this work out and grab this bargain before end of financial year. =)

  • we gotta grab the deal by the 23rd … which is wednesday .. so hopefully we have a response back :D

im happy to goto msy or somewhere else and pickup 2 hdds .. prob end up being a bit better for the drivers anyway .. instead of aust post throwing them around :D

  • mm i actually just received an update to my questions ..

As for the difference: eTRAYz is a NAS-device, Xt Pro is a media-player, hence the difference..do some googeling on both names NAS and media-player.
The difference should be very clear..

^— the difference isnt clear and probably confused me even more .. lol ive requestioned them so lets see what they come back with

Re supported file formats … this is an extensive list which is the first time i've come across it. Link is http://forum.xtreamer.net/viewtopic.php?f=101&t=11163 .. it appears that RM files are supported to some degree :)

  • Sorry for the late replies guys. Cereal is on the ball here and yes, the Xtreamer PRO supports Realmedia files within these specs:

    .RM/.RMVB (RealMedia)
    Video - 8 (RV30) | 9/10 (RV40) |
    Audio - Cook/G2 | AAC (LC/HE/PS) |
    Subtitles - Not Supported |

We're not a computer part supplier so if you are able to source the HDDs cheaper elsewhere, we always recommend this in order to save you some money.

Difference between Xtreamer Pro and Etrayz:
The Xtreamer Pro is more of a media player device and the NAS is just a bonus built in feature. It is NOT meant to be a fully featured NAS.

The Etrayz is built as a NAS and does not function as a media player.

  • I m start getting confuse now………so first
    1. this Xtremer Pro is intergrated with the Etrayz system for NAS system? [I assumed yes as I has an wifi antenna attachf for network connection
    2. What is it mean by "It is NOT meant to be a fully featured NAS"? As from my previous question…..the device should be able to work as a NAS storage, for video file or other computer files.
    3. is that mean the additional HDD price cannot be lower? coz it is always simpler to have one invoice than a few and it can save me the time and cost to run around.

Cheers…..and thanks CereaL for the research. ;)

    • +1

The Xtreamer Pro and Etrayz are 2 totally separate products made by the same company. Etrayz is a standalone NAS device only. Xtreamer Pro is a media player with some NAS functions. When I said its not meant to be a fully features NAS device is not to purchase the Xtreamer Pro and trying to use it more as a NAS than a media player. While it does support NAS functions, its not going to be as good as a DEDICATED NAS. At the end of the day, it is a media player.

Sorry guys, HDD can't be made lower as it would be below cost with our suppliers. You guys are pretty savvy and I would recommend buying the HDDs elsewhere if you want to save money. Its dead easy to install a HDD of your own.

  • I recently bought the Astone AP-300 + 1TB HDD for $185. It plays everything the Xtreamer Pro does, and also does NAS.

The UI is now where near as pretty, but that may not matter for some. Just giving up some options.

  • the only different maybe the wifi connectivity. =)
thanks for the suggestions, so how was the unit? you happy with it?

    • Agreed.. there is an add-on module but personally I would rather cable my media player. A good wireless N connection would probably be just as good though.

I'm very happy with it, does everything advertised and the picture and sound are both fantastic.

Although I had originally planned to buy a media player / streamer I went for the AP-300 because of the ability to add a HDD.

It makes more sense for me to copy the movies to the player via NAS, and play them from the HDD rather than have my PC on each time I want to watch a movie. Also means I can store my movies there, rather than taking up space on my PC.

  • Thanks h4lcyon, I will have a browse on Astone products and see if theres any good deal around.
    Cheers

    • I bought mine & 1TB HDD from www.umart.com.au

Not sure if that is suitable for you being in Sydney, I'm sure you could get a price match somewhere.

  • The thing about the XtreamerPro is that it allows for 2HDD's and up to 4TB in size.

The Astone only allows for up to 2TB …

Re the XtreamerPro .. it appears that yes it does NAS features .. I cant seem to find anything that it doesnt do NAS wise .. i dont know if this is a good or bad thing .. but hey there doesnt seem to be many negative feedback about this player compared to previous versions they have released before.

ccentral, you mention this deal expires on Wednesday. If one is purchased, how long before it is shipped? Do you currently have them in stock or are you awaiting supplies to arrive?

    Thanks :)

    • Correct, both units are great. I guess it just depends on what you want and how much you want to spend.

    • -

    • checked this morning with the shipping company and its already landed in Sydney, but going through customs clearance. They gave me an estimate of “end of the week”. You won’t be billed until your order is shipped out but the deal only lasts till this Wednesday.

  • I wonder if you can upgrade the RAM from 256meg to something higher ..

    • Internal RAM is not upgradable. You probably don't need to anyway as it won't make any difference to movie playback and 256MB RAM is enough for navigating through the GUI menus

  • one more thing~
I read somewhere saying that 2HDD cannot operate at the same time, is it true?
So if i am watching movie A at HDD A then if the file B located in HDD B, then i will have to switch off the HDD A, and then run the file B in HDD B??

    • No that's not true. Both movies can be accessed at the same time when connected to your TV for playback. There is a HDD selector switch, but I've been told by the manufacturer that its only used for eSata and USB link mode to reach full speeds in data transfer. But when its connected to the TV, it will be appear at one single drive and you don't need to touch the switch.

      • yeah i read something similar as well … there was a big debate about having to switch between the two hard drives .. but then someone who received the product said it was fine and wasnt required for normal operation.

        • Yes, it was just some rumour that came up based on the pics of the product they saw.

  • mmm tempting … to order or not to order …

  • yeh, thinking of purchasing or not.
btw….this device supports the common HDD around in the market? For eg, support for both 5400rpm and the 7200rpm…?

    • Yes it supports any SATA 3.5" drive. You're not going to notice any difference in playback performance between a 54000rpm and 72000rpm. MAYBE some performance difference when transferring via USB though or any large data transferring.

  • that would be expected anyway … any device would be like that ..

do orders have to be placed by COB tuesday or by COB wednesday ?

  • would you mind me asking again the diff b/w XtreamerPro and Etrayz?
as stated that XtreamerPro has provided some sort of NAS capacity, why there is needs to purchase the Etrayz in addition?
And I assumed that this deal is only XtremerPro itself without the Etrayz.

Thanks the clarification in advance~ :)

  • Etrayz is a standalone NAS unit so it will do a better job AS A NAS DRIVE. The Xtreamer Pro has some NAS functions for basic users who just want to transfer files over from your PC to the unit without the need for more advanced NAS features/functions found in dedicated NAS drives.

As mentioned earlier, the Xtreamer Pro is a MEDIA PLAYER with some NAS functions. If you just want to copy files over from/to your PC to the Xtreamer pro, then the included NAS is more than good enough for most users. If you are looking specifically for a dedicated NAS, then get the etrayz or something similar.

There is no "need" to purchase the Etrayz in addition. Its only if you are specifically in the market for a NAS unit. I think for most people if they don't know what a NAS does or what a NAS is, then the included feature in the Xtreamer pro more than good enough. Hope that helps ; )

  • hey ccentral .. can you advise on a question raised earlier

    1. Whats the warranty? Refer back to XtreamerPro or to Circuit Central if anything happens?

According to the Xtreamer.net website .. they state the following

No limited warranty is provided by Xtreamer.net unless your Xtreamer.net Product ("Product") was
purchased from an authorized distributor or authorized reseller. Distributors may sell Products to
resellers who then sell Products to end users. Please see below for warranty information or obtaining
service. No warranty service is provided unless the Product is returned to an authorized return center.

If your Product was purchased from a reseller Please contact the place of purchase or the directly for
    warranty service.

Can you confirm you're an authorised distributor/reseller?

It says for Warranty to return the product to yourself. Just wanting to confirm this.

Also … having a read it appears the warranty is for 12 months .. I could be wrong but I thought I read somewhere 3 years? Can you confirm these details please… (I guess depending on the type of credit card you have, you can claim an extra 12 months either way by paying on card)

Im probably going to bite the bullet and i think im gonna order this in the morning .. but would like to know the answer to the above questions first.

As extra feedback to the others .. Reading the forums it appears to run on some form of unix/linux base and allows for major customisations which is pretty cool

That be all for now :D

  • 12 months warranty return to us and yes, we are an authorised distributor in Australia.

  • I took a dive and bit the bullet and ordered one ..

Let see how it goes :D

  • +1

so like yesterday i received my package ..
took it home last night and had a quick play ..

came already with a HDMI cable (lucky i didnt buy one which i was planning to do)

put a hard drive in but then realised i didnt have any movies on it .. lol

couldnt connect to my wireless but thats coz my password wasnt working .. guess that doesnt help

initially the video settings were set to the lowest so the graphics looked pretty crap but after going through settings, selecting auto hdmi for video etc.. it automatically picked up my 1080p tv and changed. graphics looked really sharp and crystal clear and that was just the background images.

will have more of a play tonight and over the weekend and provide an update.

    thanks!
