What does this road marking mean?

Just curious because I've seen the road markings all over my neighbourhood, but I have no idea what it signifies. Cheers

    You're mistaken I'm afraid.

    That's not a marking. That's a dog.

  • drug dealers place these markings on the street so you know where to buy drugs from. similar to the "sneakers on the powerlines" symbol from a few years ago

or it may have something to do with underground pipes/sewerage or cables

  • The dog is looking the wrong way! Are there any hydrants, or service valves where the arrows are pointing? Quite often they are marked on the road, although I've not seen a 'V' before, usually 'H' for hydrant.

    • I don't think so. They're at the end of my street and at seemingly random places along the main road in our neighbourhood.

    • I can't speak for other States, but in Victoria, the hydrants are marked by blue cats-eyes markers located slightly offcentre on the road surface.

What do the small solid triangles point to?

    • The V is pointing in the opposite direction of the road (ie I was walking on the right hand side of a road) and the solid triangles point to a house.

Marks service access points, adjacent to road (on footpath), such as water and sewerage.

Note the old faded markings as well. Nice to know they haven't drifted over the years.

    • Thanks, good to know :)

  • They don't look very permanent. I see similar markings in our local park that is used for Park Run events to mark the course.

Park over it and see what the description on the fine is.
    "park within 5m of a ?????"

    • +1

And it will read "Park within 5 M of a galimatias." and we still won't know…

Fire hydrant adjacent on footpath/verge. So fireys know where to hook up hoses.
