I don't think it's the same set as the post you linked to

  • FYI, postage for me to Melbourne was $9.95, which is where the $264.10 came in

Fantastic deal for this set! I have the equivalent set (synergy) and its amazing.

I will say though that consider just getting a single knife and saving money if you're not going to be using all of the knives - the cooks knife is more than enough for most household applications.

    • +3

yeah. Instead of getting a whole block of overpriced yet decidedly average knives, you could get a really nice chef's knife (or santoku, if you want) and a matching paring knife. A nice Japanese 240mm can be had for under $150, delivered. And for the price of this set, you could buy a Hattori.

Pair it with a cheap CCK cleaver, a dollar store bread knife and you are set.

(says the guy with more knives that he can count….)

You sound like you know your knives. Got any links for your ideal knife setup recommendations? Cheers

  • +2

Fantastic knives at a good price. p.s - I recommend you get a proper sharpener for these too.

As per my comment above, Groupon are not disclosing the merchant shipping the knives

Beware of counterfeits as per global website http://globalknives.uk/counterfeit/

Groupon don't check with merchant about authenticity of product , they will only take deal down after customers complain

    • judging by the groupon link, i would say they are coming from Sheldon & Hammond and after 10 seconds of googling looks like they are a distributor of global knives, along with other kitchenware

      http://www.globalknives.com.au/globalbrochure.pdf

      • Fair enough. I stand to be corrected

If they are selling genuine global knives , then after Groupon commission they are selling them at below cost price

The other thing that doesn't makes sense is as A distributor , they are not into the business of single item sales as they usually sell in bulk to retailers

I'm actually going to call Sheldon & Hammond tomorrow and ask them if this deal is from them

        • Give or take $15, and this set has been at a similar price point quite a number of times and relatively frequently from one store or another. That's including eBay listings where eBay fees surely applied.

It's a good price but I don't think we're talking too good to be true territory.

        • Hi Eastern Culture.

Could you please let us know after you call?

          Thanks.

          @Chinerama:

Will do. I'm Keen on the knives but deal too good to be true after factoring in the commission groupon takes from merchant.

        • @easternculture: if its too good to be true…

  • +3

Pretty good deal but as an avid cook myself, it is not worth to get a set.

Out of the 6-7 knives, U probably 90% of the time only use 1 - 2 knifes.

I recommend to get only 1 - 2 different length knife.

  • +2

    But does it cut shoes?

  • Yeah the pairing knife is rubbish from global. The utility knife is better.

The bread knife is too sharp to be a bread knife. Mine is now ok after 3 years of use.

The rest are ok but shun knives are better. I wouldn't buy global again. I bought synergy set for $240-$260 around 4 years ago.

  • Anybody know why this won't work for me? I get a total of $294 after the summer discount of $14.95 (which clearly isn't 15%) and postage!
Can you only redeem the summer code once? As I have previously used code once today!
    Thanks

5% off via the website and 15% off via the app. Did you buy via the website and not the app?

      • +2

I was in the app but I had previously used the code for another item, hence why it wasn't working!
I purchased through a friends app instead and it worked for me!
        Thanks a lot!

  • Any of you have tojiro or any other brands that are comparable to Global or Shun at a lower price? Thx

    • +1

Not in the same league strictly, but lots of people (myself included) swear by the cheap "kiwi" knives you find in Asian grocers. Cheap as, and keep an edge

anyone received theirs yet?? Logged in on website and no tracking info provided.

    • +1

Nah nothing as yet, I did read somewhere 3 weeks is the turn around time..

  • Has anybody received theirs?
Its almost been a month now and i have heard nothing at all :/
