Cheap flights from Melbourne to Madrid, in June/ July 2017. The best time to go to Europe!
Flights are on Air India, and stop in Delhi. Some of the stops seem to be long (20 hours) while some are short (2 hours).
I don't know anything about Air India but you can't argue with that price!

very poor safety record be careful

    • +4

Actually they are ranked 39th, above Air France and American Airlines

      • -5

both airlines that are also piss poor in safety record

      • What that translates to percentage wise?

    • Any links from where you got this misguided info from ?

    • Unfortunately, you are ill informed, mate! Air India has quite good safety ratings.

    Cattle Class?

    • +3

      No cows on board ;)

    • holy cattle class

    • +1

Better food class than 'raw food class' of most other airlines barring a few.

  • +3

20 hours in india, unless u get a visa u wont be allowed out

    • +2

You can get a transit visa for $38AUD - could be a good way to get a small taste of India :)

      • Have to apply 4 days in advance , I think..

        • +1

They also started a Visa on arrival scheme for some passport holders.

        • @51ngh:

Yes the Visa on arrival exists, That is the one I was referring to , you have to register in advance atleast 4 days before travel.

        • @dealman:
Is this free? I cannot find anything. Only that there is a new e-visa, but still quite expensive.

        • @Franconian: No sorry it's not free, both the visas are not free.

Thanks, I booked a flight for May. Looking forward to the 1 day stop over in Delhi. Transit visa seems to be the cheapest for around $40.

          Cheers,

I flew Air India to Delhi last year on their new 787 Dreamliner. I flew business and it was the biggest business class seat I've ever sat in - complete flat bed.

One of the best flights I've had. Star Alliance as well so you can accrue Kris flyer points.

    • +4

I have travelled through Air India a few times and I have experienced the best food ever during my any air travel. They are too good at it. Combined with real Indian hospitality.

    Air India - Salmonella.

    • +2

Neg for stating the truth? I can personally attest.

      • Got more details?

      • Thanks for your contribution to this post. Extremely informative. Your comment enlightens the world.

      • +1

Some people just have to speak negative irrespective of how the services are, I can personally attest.

    • but isn't that the caterer's fault at whatever country they're in?

      • +2

        India?

        • Don't they replenish at every airport they stop? Just curious

  • +6

    Never again that Airline
Took as three days to reach our destination which was supposed to be same day

    • I have had similar experiences even in cases of Finnair and Air Canada. What does it mean? Never again them? Lol.. That's a ridiculous argument.

      • +4

Mate, I can write a book on my experience that how we were treated by Air India. I am born Indian, Candian now Australian. I have hands on experience on all these national Airlines.
If it was Air Canada( or Qantas) and I made a complaint on my experience, I would get apology letters and free flights( I know from experience ), Air India experience was all opposite. As I said never again not even for free. Everyone else is different. I rather pay little extra and get a service especially when you are flying with family.

        • Fair enough. I can say the same for some other airlines though.

        • +2

Free flights from Qantas for a bad experience? I have never been given anything of the sort despite complaints.

        • @arcticmonkey: should have said "harassment" instead of bad experience

        • +1

          @777: What happened to you?

        • I have made quite a few complaints to Qantas for their non available 'special requested meals'. Apparently these complaints were not even acknowledged. Some people just 'need' to make statements- including airlines offering free flights!

        • @aoujay51:
Okay I won't go in details as I said I can write a book
I was not offered any meal on 13 hr flight because of previous three cancellation they didn't estimated a full flight and guess what, they ran out of peanuts too
Telling them I am diabetic also didn't made any difference to deaf ears
Luckily we had baby custard and wasn't the best choice

You can get to Paris for $845 in June.

BTW if you are not familiar with this google has a great graphical search engine for flights [US site only]. Particularly good for multi stop journeys - google.com/flights use map search!

All aircraft flying into EU must be certified - so internation Air India planes that fly to EU [and Oz] are the best in fleet.
Can someone give comparative stats on which is more likely - fatality on way to airport versus in plane??

PS - if you leave that dates the same and select Delhi the price goes to over $1000. Go Figure.

    • +2

      That's $845 USD :)

      • Good Spot - forgot about that.

  • Curry for breakfast?

    • +3

Even if, much better than raw unchewable bread and cold butter, hey! And a muffin for the namesake (+ fake packed orange juice at times). Continental breakfast is the worst one can get especially onboard. Absolutely raw. ANY Indian food would be in much more finished state and quite well-cooked. Trust me (and try once if you don't trust me).

This airline is actually better than vn or air china seat comfort wise. However the planes have a weird odour, its almost the smell of spice alley with a hint of febreze. Which was better than air china bad breath and bo.

You get used to the odour after the flight has taken off. Food comes in glad wrap and was very vegetarian.

Entertainment was not very international but i got enough Bollywood to satify my curiosity for a life time.

Layover was long, try and get an overnight layover with accommodation in a nice place, its very cheap to get into an upmarket hotel chain.

Would i fly them again? Unlikely

  • +6

Spend an extra $200 and save yourself the pain of Air India and the extended layover.
Just not worth it for me.
If you are one of those people that is put off by other passengers bad plane etiquette, avoid at all costs.

  • +3

The only issue with air India is that the flights gets delayed quite often and if this happens they don't offer any assistance to the passengers.

  • +1

I flew with them as well as Air France once and then i simply added these airlines in to my blacklist. Even if they give free ticket i won't fly with them. The crews have shitty attitude in both airlines i noticed.
