Can you get a deal for the S7 Edge? :D

    • Hi william89080

sorry, we can't do similar deal on S7 edge.

  • Sweet. Thanks TA :)

  • +5

Sweet deal TA :) If only the code was like T1GH74RS3

  • +2

I'm ready to unload my NOte 7.

I heard that a replacement one blew up on a plane.

    • +4

      Live life on the…EDGE ;)

      • I have one of those too. The S7 Edge.

I think it has a similar edge to the Note 7.

  • Took them about 1.5 hours to get my order ready for pickup

    • I told the manager I was going to order 3 phones from their ebay store and he processed it within the hour. Twas a great day.

  • Just wana confirm before pulling the trigger that it comes in a sealed box or opened like the grey import ones?

    • It's not a grey import. It's just like buying from JB HIFI or Hardly Normal.

  • What does "OPT" mean in the title of the product?

    • +1

      optus?

  • These phones are Optus branded

    • I don't think Optus locks their phones anymore. Please don't quote me.

      • Condition: New - Brand New, Never Used
        Network Branding: Optus
        Network Lock: Unlocked

        as per webpage

        • well there you go. I think it adds like 1-2 seconds to your boot time to display the Optus logo. Other than that, you're good to go.

        • +3

          @niner:

Doesn't it also delay software updates?

        • Yeah, slightly. If it was really bothersome you could switch to the unlocked firmware but personally it's been fine with the security updates for the most part so far. You can see the release dates of updates for any variant here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G930F/OPS/

        • @Sparky:
Samsung delays the updates a fair bit. Not sure how much does a carrier delays it.

        • @mattacrazy:

          MASSIVELY.

All carriers really screw over their users with updates.

          "network compatibility" checking my backside.

        • @niner: But there's the delayed software updates as well.

        • @MrMcHairyHead:

          who cares?
A software update isn't going to change the way you operate a phone.

        • @niner: What? Yes it is, that's literally exactly what a software update does.

And evidently LOTS of people care about software updates.

        • @MrMcHairyHead:

In the last 3-4 software updates, I haven't received anything special on my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
The Android version before Marshmellow is pretty similar.

Lots of extra things that I don't use. I don't think LOTS of people care. They'll buy the phone based on its price, specs and UI.

You sure have a lot of opinions for someone who doesn't own a Samsung Galaxy S7 or NOte 7.

        • +1

          @niner:
First and foremost, updates are good for your devices' security and stability. Whilst apps are updated regularly, the rollout of Android updates is very infrequent, as well as slow. The x.0 updates are primarily functional / interface changes, and some may view them as cosmetic, and you may well not find the changes worth the increased space/resource requirements.
However, the other updates, eg. 6.01, 7.01 are more security / stability focused and are very important for people who use their device for banking, e-payments, save passwords/login information, etc. to minimise the risk of device hacking. This is increasingly important with 2-factor authentication used by banks / government departments for identification, and contactless payments like AndroidPay. Not only are you at risk of the device being spied on or personal details stolen, the device could be replicated with yourself being locked out by hackers.
Any sane person would make reasonable efforts to protect themselves from that kind of risk.
You can't get one without the other, so it's best to keep your OS up-to-date as much as possible.

        • @kryzstoff:

I trust Samsung and Google to handle all that.

I agree with what you said, but when choosing a phone I don't think about how fast Samsung/Optus updates their phones. All that behind the scenes stuff isn't really what the user interacts with on a day-to-day basis.
They eventually get around to it and Optus haven't left me in the dark for a long period of time. They're one of the biggest telcos in Australia, so there's that peace of mind.

      • +1

They are not locked but they have Optus apps pre-installed and maybe Optus logos. You may have to wait for Android updates to come from Optus as well.

        • +1

I have an s7 edge with Optus and the only optus apps that came with my phone was the yes optus app, which is extremely useful and functional. It might have come with 1 or 2 more, but I simply drag and dropped it into the trash.

      • +5

        Please don't quote me.

        Sorry, just had to XD

      • They don't, but software updates might still be at Optus' mercy.

        • True, the Android 6.0.1 (M4B30X) was released by Google on 07-Dec-2015. it was then tested by manufacturers and finally tested and rolled out via the mobile networks, the dates vary depending on brand and model, but for Samsung S7 (dates from their own websites):
          Vodafone 16-Jun-2016
          Optus 11-Jul-2016
          Virgin 17-Aug-2016
          Telstra 15-Sep-2016

The S7/edge family were reportedly the biggest selling devices in Australia this year, which explains their priority in the update rollout lists, with many devices such as HTC/Sony/LG waiting much longer for updates, even up to late september in the case of Virgin Australia.

  • +1

Wow looks like a fire sale

  • +1

Too bad its not unbranded, would of grabbed one for my partner.

  • +1

the same discount for the nexus 5x and 6p ;)

  • +4

When will a good deal for S7 edge come?

  • +1

Would buy if it was s7 edge.

  • -3

I heard this phone is very very popular in Middle East.

    • +1

      You are saying NOTE 7.

ps. Poor joke, no offence guys.

    • STFU you DH.

  • Is this really that cheap?

AU dollar must be in the toilet

  • +5

    No Edge, no deal.

  • -3

This product is so Hot right now

    • Note 7 is much Hotter IMO.

  • +1

Will pull the trigger if it was s7 edge AU stock unbranded.

  • Edge please :)

  • What the point having edge for some of you? It's not like you gonna slide on the side of the phone.

    • Bigger screen and 20% larger battery.

      • Bigger battery and yeah I got used to the bigger screen.

3000mah vs 2400mah. But I guess the larger screen would use a fair bit of that too.

        • +1

It's 3600mah vs the S7 3000mah. Bigger screen doesn't use that much more battery at all.

        • @ozhunter:

          oops, that makes more sense.

        • @ozhunter:
if you want the bigger sceen.
I wanted to keep the phone profile smaller.
it was a trade off i made with the battery life.

      • xiaomi would solve that problem :)

  • -2

    BOOMtastic

  • What's the best colour? I know it's subjective, just wondering if any are widely regarded as good or poor. I was thinking of trying gold, but perhaps it would be too blingy or reflective? Silver looks pretty plain in photos any better in real life? Black looks nice in photos I think.

    • +1

Silver and Gold look awesome in Person (a nice shiny metalic colour). That being said I bought the black.

    • +1

I have the edge in silver…no regrets…looks amazing…quite shiny in the flesh but not enough to be distracting. Looks great imo.

      • Haha thanks, so they're all good… That doesn't help!

  • +1

    Edge for $888?

  • damn, just bought one from a private ebay seller for $660.

    • 660 < 777. What's the issue?

      • issue is that he doesnt know mathematics.

      • probably secondhand

      • Probably a grey import. Having local warranty might be worth $100.

        • Local Warranty (although he says this is an optus contract phone and will send me a receipt) + TRS on the new one brings it down to the same price. Plus the choice of a colour other than GOLD, since it's for my Father would have been beneficial.

Apparently the one I bought is sealed though.

Not sure if 6 months credit card insurance works on ebay purchases either…

  • +1

What's the pull here vs shopping square etc? Where they are about $660? Just local store/warranty? More trusted not bring a grey import?

From what I understand you can flash Telstra firmware on grey imports which provide the VoLTE

  • -3

    Dicksmith online $759
$777 is not a good deal at all. Just simply google it.

    https://www.dicksmith.com.au/da/buy/samsung-galaxy-s7-32gb-g…

    • How much is delivery and is it Australian or international model?

    • grey import vs local aus stock.

      • +1

There's nothing wrong with grey import.

        • never said there was. but you pay a premium for local warranty and support + 1 year.
and you're at the mercy of the seller for the grey import for warranty issues.

        • +1

          No but:
          * it is unlikely to have GST (so no TRS)
          * there's no physical store to return it to in the event of warranty issues
          * some manufacturers won't provide warranties unless it's in the original country of purchase (classic example: LG Australia refusing to help LG G4 owners with phones bought off eBay that fail within the first year warranty period, phone had to be returned to eBay seller in country of sale).
          * the ACL probably does not apply, and my understanding was that ACL may/would get you 2 years of warranty.
          * if using a price protection credit card, most of those have conditions to say the item must be bought in Australia.

How much are those things worth? Hard to say, depends on how reliable the phone is (which you can never know at the time of purchase), and your personal situation (whether traveling overseas soon, type of credit card, etc). Are those things worth $18 on a $750+ phone? Probably!

    • +2

      This is Australian stock.

    • Difference is it's local Australian Stock and includes Band 28; your DickKogan stock doesn't.

      • +1

As far as I know the S7 Edge imports support Band 28 (eg 700Mhz). Not sure if all the straight S7s do.

        • We're talking about the S7.

  • Can we get a deal on Optus unbranded?

    • What is Optus unbranded?

    • Did you mean Optus 'unlocked'?

      • Not branded. Samsung stock.

        • +3

Well, if it is unbranded, then it is not Optus.

  • +3

I bought this phone on last sale at Mobilecity and had lot of issues. Firstly this is Optus branded so every time when you start or shutdown then optus welcome and bye screen would come. The phone was so slow and terrible battery life. I read reviews and found the slowdown may cause due to Optus bloatware. Nearly 2 weeks i tried everything as per Mobilecity instructions and finally they refunded. This is my experience. So if you feel the phone is slow then you can contact Mobilecity immediately to sort out the issue. I'm happy to answer any questions.

    • +1

What did you eat for breakfast today?

  • -2
  • Darn. Just bought this phone the other week for $815 during the 15% site wide sale. $777 is a good deal.
Have not noticed any bloat ware issues yet

    • You like your S7? Fast? No complaints?

  • Thanks. You found multiple good phone deals lately, tightarse :)

  • Any deals for Note 5???

  • +4

If you want to get rid of the Branding just reflash the phone with Open Australia Firmware. My local Samsung Bar did mine.

    • thats pretty cool. I might pop by the parramatta store after I buy this phone :)

    • does this require rooting the device?
