A great deal on great headphones.

    • Yes, and superseded by new 5x9 series, hence, sale.

  • +2

It is showing up as 99 EUR for me.

    • VAT is removed at checkout

      • Cheers mate. Got myself one. Been looking for a great pair of headphones.

        • You really won't regret if you are after open cans.

  • +3

Thanks. Mine came to $149.79 with delivery.

  • Is there a way to convert to english? When I use google translate it won't let me click any buttons..

    • +3

      Use chrome browser

  • Good find, OP. These cans have received great reviews. I would've jumped on these if I didn't have the Philips SHP9500.

  • +1

Cool, I might just jump on this. What makes this a "special edition", is it just that it's black?

    • +4

It comes with an extra cable… I think that was it.

    • +3

In addition to the color difference, the SE version has two cables included: one 3m and one 1.2m cables. The "standard", more expensive version has only one 3m cable included. It's odd to me thou.

      • +1

Thanks for the advice, got it! :)

I checked on eBay too, you can pretty easily get different cords that use a 3.5mm plug, or ones that have a mic/controller on it like you use with your phone.

EDIT: These might be clearing out because the updated HD599 is getting released right about now. From my quick bit of reading online it looks like it's an improvement on the HD598, but also costs about $250-300 right now.

Delivery cost is 15.59Euro, so total will be 98.09 Euro = AUD149.79!

    • Thx, I updated the deal. Sorry, I didn't enter my debit card numbers to see the delivery cost. 98 is cheaper than what French need to pay to get these headphones with free delivery !

  • +1

Is there a worldwide warranty on these?

    • +2

Yep 2y warranty as long as you buy directly from Amazon or an authorised seller.

  • I am considering these headphones after not being too impressed with the audiotechnica ath m50x and their lack of mids.

My pc seems to power those headphones quite poorly in that I have to max out the volume before it gets to a suitable level. Will i have troubles powering these to the same degree. Can anyone who owns these let me know if I will need to purcahse an amp as well? becuase I will have to factor that into the costs

    • +1

the mx50x runs at a an already pretty low 38 ohms, might want to consider what is going wrong. The 598 is 50 ohmn. A pc should be able to run 38 ohms without dac/amp easily enough. Baring that, buy a cheap dac/amp

      • +1

There's more to driving headphones than impedance, the M50X also has lower sensitivity, 99db/mW vs the Senns 112dB/mW. But then looking at numbers doesn't always tell you everything, some would make you assume they're easy to drive(high-ish sensitivity, low impedance), when they are not.

That said, I've read that the HD59s are a little harder to drive than the M50X.

        • On the other hand, Ive never heard anyone say their m50x were hard to drive

    • you selling your m50x? I'll buy them.

  • This or Beyro DT 770 PRO?

    • +3

These are neutral open headphones. The DT770's are slightly v-shaped closed headphones. They have two completely different sound signatures. It depends on what you're using them for or what you're listening to.

The DT770's have more punchy, clean, & responsive bass (NOT the bad kind of punchy bass like Beats by Dre). The HD598SE would have clearer vocals and just a more neutral sound throughout.

Being closed headphones (the DT770's) will not allow you to hear your surroundings, nor would anyone around you hear what you're listening to. The HD598's are open cans, so sound leaks in and out.

      • +1

you sure 598 SE is neutral? 598 is certainly not.

        • +3

They're certainly not v or w shaped. They aim to be neutral, obviously not HD600 neutral. At least the last time I heard them I thought they sounded neutral, so I am talking based on memory from a 10 minute try out with them. And they will definitely sound neutral in comparison to the DT770 which are definitely more v-shaped than the HD598.

      • NOT the bad kind of punchy bass like Beats by Dre

People keep referring to "Beats by Dre" as though all Beats headphones sounded exactly the same.

  • +5

Disappointed they cancelled my X2 order

  • How are these connected to smart phones? The CNET review recommends them only when connected to amp.

    • +1

It depends on your smartphones, 50ohms isn't that high. High end smartphones have increase the output voltage of their headphone jack and also use famous audio chipset.

  • Like Sennheiser but their build quality is woeful.

  • -7

    Bose QC35s is better

    • +5

Double the price and different type. So, no.

  • Probably not the best place to ask. But any recommendations for sub $250 headphones that don't require an amp and are good for bass-heavy music?

    • Closed Headphones: Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro (They have brilliant bass response and it's not muddy, so mids and highs remain clear too).

Open Headphones: Philips Fidelio X2 (but you're going to have to wait for them to drop on a major special, hopefully in the coming month, we're all waiting, because they might become discontinued).

      • Fidelio X2 lose a lot of performance without an amp. Particuarly in the bass department.

      • Yeah i've been looking at the Fidelio X2s and they look pretty tempting. Definitely going to keep a look out on ozbargain over the coming months. Although the compression headband does concern me. I do have a pair of SteelSeries gaming headphones with a band like that, and i absolutely hate it.

While I would prefer a closed set, the DT770 Pro 32 ohm unfortunately has pleather pads (not a fan) and seems to be more expensive than the 80ohm at most places (although not by much). Any idea if i can buy the 80ohm velour pads somewhere for cheap?

        Thanks for the reply!

  • +1

I guess I missed on an another headphone deal… Would have been pretty tempted!

  • +2

I got mine today… Damn son! That sound!! I think I'll enjoy these :D

      • +1

Yeah i've been getting the same thing. :(

        • Are you still waiting for the headphones to arrive?
I have contacted Amazon and they will ship a replacement order soon.

        • @syforce: Nah, I haven't received anything just yet. Did you contact the Fr Amazon or? I might have to do the same.

        • @Neurological Orgasm: Yeah I had contacted Amazon Fr using their English email support feature, They understood the situation and had shipped a replacement unit with the AmazonGlobal Lightning delivery service at no expense (Takes 3-5 days to be delivered in Australia according to Amazon Fr).
Amazon customer support were very efficient and helpful when it came to this situation so I would recommend contacting them as soon as possible

        • @syforce: yeah i did the same as soon as i read your reply. They sent a replacement without any questions asked, pleasantly supprised to be honest.

          Hopefully it all goes smoothly.

          Thanks for your help.

    • I purchased on 16th and was given delivery date of 31st October. I just received an update that it will be delivered some time today before 8pm. If yours was ordered two weeks before mine I would definitely follow up with Amazon.
