  • Grabbed mine a month ago when the 2TB model came out. Was pretty simple to do, although the Kinect now needs mains power which is kind of disappointing.

    • removing the Kinect port helps the s to have smaller requirements for power.

  • +1

Free is Free but the requirements suck.. i need to buy the XboxOne S first, make sure i keep my old console too for all 3 serials from old, new and sensor. :)

I think i'll just wait for UHD 4k bluray players drop to $150 and buy one of those that way there isnt any point side-grading to the xboxS

    • +1

If you only need the serial then you wouldn't need to keep the old console, just write the number down.

    • +6

You don't need to keep your old console - just have the old console and Kinect registered on your Microsoft account - like I did. no hassles whatsoever - free adapter within 3 working days of registering my One S.

      • How do we do this? Register on the account?

    • +1

You can get $250 in a day for your old console on gumtree/ebay. Then buy a new One S and sell the games it comes with, you can get an upgrade to the One S for less than $100 that way.

      • +1

Sure $250? I had a brand new in box 500gb one ended up selling for $240 after a week on gumtree.

        • Easily $250. Look on eBay what they are going for. Gumtree is usually a bit slower and more time wasters on there, but still should sell eventually.

        • I sold mine on gumtree for $300 and then sold FIFA for $50. Basically got the new console for $30.

      • Absolutely. I got $300 for my 500GB with Master Chief Collection no Kinect after paying $330 for it at Target with Kinect back in April. Adapter arrived very fast! Given I was going to buy FIFA 17 this year anyway, JBs $379 for the S with FIFA was a steal. And Forza Horizon 3 with HDR was worth the upgrade alone.

    • Seeing as most 4k Blu Ray players are more expensive than the whole Xbox One S unit, you could be waiting a long time. I sold my old Xbox one, put the funds towards the One S and then applied for the adapter last month, really easy.

  • This will be great for VR and I can't wait for Morpheus so I can finally meet Milo face to face and also let the Xbox dress me up for the day.

  • Have you guys got your adapters? Mine was cancelled by MS saying there was no Australian version.

"As per our offline team, currently, the free Kinect adapter has not been released yet in your region - Australia. We will update you as soon as the offer is available in Australia."

    • I got mine! It's the adapter found here.

    • got mine too…..

    • Que? I got mine and the box had a figure-8 cable for all regions basically…

  • Is it even worth getting an S? Guy at EB told me no. I don't need 4K Blu rays, I'm happy to stream my 4K content.

    • +2

Depends on what you want it for - I want to play 4k blu rays and it works a treat. And HDR on Forza looks great! so his to his own but I love my S. And it looks great too (yes, call me vain :/ )

    • +2

Definately! Smaller with no power brick, better controller with bluetooth,4k blu-ray, HDR.. etc etc. Forza Horizon 3 looks great with HDR enabled. Sell the old Xbox and upgrade, less than $100 to upgrade after you sell any games the One S comes with.

    • 4K upscale, 4k streaming, HDR, 40% smaller, internal power brick, Bluetooth support, etc. well worth it (I do have a 4k TV which made the decision easier though)

    • +1

If you have the original already, then no.

    • I find it hard to believe that an EB sales representative actually said no to a potential sale…

    • I managed to get an S through the target deal. Sell and return the games and managed a swapover price of $0. so yes!!!!!

  • To get this, do we need to buy Xbox S first then contact support?
I've Xbox One with Kinect but haven't planned to go with S version.

    • Yep. You need to register your one s on your account and then contact support.

  • What is it?

  • Do people even still use the Kinect? For what?

    • voice controls! Xbox On / Xbox Play / Xbox record that - you get the gist……

    • Skype.
Auto zoom function is really cool.

    • +2

You can also use voice to input and search in text boxes now. Saying Mr Robot Season 2 is a lot faster than typing it.

      • That certaintly helps if it works in YouTube

    • Xbox snap, Xbox unsnap, Xbox record that, Xbox open that and also for automatic sign-in.

  • If anyone gets one of these and would be interested in selling it let me know.

    • Yep same…alternatively if someone was to give me their xbox one original serial number, i would be eternally greatful

  • What would have been a better idea is making the thing USB in the first place.

    • What would have been even better was not pricing the XB1 $100 above the PS4 on launch, thereby crippling it sales; who knows, more people might have the Kinect if they had basically bundled it for free.

      • Somehow I get the feeling those people would have then pushed for them to remove the Kinect and cut a further $100 off the price, to be $100 cheaper than PS4.

  • Will bluetooth keyboard still work with the original XB1?

  • It's always been free if you have all 3 pieces of hardware. Unless that was US only.

Not too many are going to have all 3 though or will need it since they already have the original console.

  • I just bought the xbox one s. If i buy a kinect, would i get this free adaptor or do i still need to get a xbox one console?

  • can anyone give me a xbox one serial to get the Kinect adaptor for xbox one s, please pm, thanks!!

  • I also would like a serial number for xbox1!! Any helpful xbox 1 owners who hate kinect so will never use this offer, message me! 😁

  • this deal has expired.

  • +1

Despite this offer being over (and two chat reps saying they couldn't help), I called today and they're sending me out an adapter with minimal hassle on my part. Just asked to get the free adapter (and didn't mention the expiry) and haf to provide serial numbers for kinect, xb1, and xb1s, as well as proof of purchase for xb1s.
